A game for the "Fans".
Zoids: Legacy is enjoyable to a Zoids "fan". Note I said "FAN", not to the average public. I played it because I basically could have any Zoid I dreamed of in that little cartridge, but at a price. I had to suffer through lackluster RPG gameplay, an unbalanced difficulty, and Characters and story only a "fan" could understand or enjoy. So let me begin.
The game it self feels a bit , dated. The graphics are cheap and animations are pieced together to make me feel like I am right there, playing with my Zoids. Thats not a good thing. When I get into a Zoid battle I don't want to feel like I am slamming my action figures into each other making strange noises, I want to feel like im playing a video game. The game does not offer any thing good to look at. I could look at the towns, but each and every town is exactly the same, just changed a little each time. The bottom line, these Graphic suck.
The Story feels like a Rip-off of the actual show. They take popular characters from the T.V. shows and just smack them all together for a grand-old time. The story goes like so: you are this blond guy who is your typical RPG hero who fights to save the kidnapped girl. The story does not have much depth.
Gameplay is simple and dated to say the least. Gameplay is in a simple turn-based form that seems weak compared to big hits like Final Fantasy.
I would like to give gameplay more credit but the gameplay all ties in to those nightmarish Zoid animations. There are 151 Zoids for players to get. You receive "Zi Data" from deafeated zoids which let you buy new zoids depending on who you got. It is sorta like a downgraded and more complicated Pokemon. Bottom line is this game is best left for the "Fans" to play. All 151 of those zoids let "Fans" have a field day as they play repetitive battles to collect their favorite Zoids. This game was made for the "Fans", all three of them. Good: 151 Zoids for all the "Fans" to enjoy.
Bad: Someone with half a brain could not consider this game good.
Buy instead: If you want a good Rpg game, buy Final Fantasy 1 and 2: Dawn of Souls for the GBA instead. I am sad to say to the normal Zoids fans, there is no better alternative.
