$25 Armored Bloodwing mount now available in WOW

New rideable flesh-eating bat available for purchase in Blizzard Entertainment's MMO game.

Gamers can fly the skies of Azeroth on an all-new mount, as Blizzard Entertainment has launched the Armored Bloodwing creature. It is available now for $25 in the Blizzard Store.

No Caption Provided

The Armored Bloodwing is described as a "monstrous" flesh-eating bat, "the perfect companion for trips that call for death and destruction."

Once purchased, the Armored Bloodwing will be available for all present and future characters players have tied to their Battle.net accounts.

The Armored Bloodwing joins a growing catalog of mounts and pets that Blizzard Entertainment has made available for a la carte purchase. It joins the Celestial Steed ($25), Winged Guardian ($25), Swift Windsteed ($25), and pets like the Pandaren Monk ($10), Soul of the Aspects ($10), and Cinder Kitten ($10).

World of Warcraft had 8.3 million subscribers at the end of March, down 1.3 million from three months prior. Its most recent expansion was Mists of Pandaria, which launched in September. No new expansions have been announced, though Activision Blizzard aims to release content more frequently to stem subscriber attrition.

25$ single vanity item in a game with 15$ monthly subscription fee and 60$ price tag for every expansion.

And people criticize f2p business model microtransactions for often milking their customers, LoL.

Hey if you have the money and you love the game go for it. This is no crazier then still having to pay a charge per month to play. Just imagine how much folks have spent over the years playing a game.

It looks shit anyway. For $25 I would want it to shoot rockets outta its asshole, instead it just lets everyone else know your one of those retards that has to buy mount instead of achieve them... not that I play anymore or anything.

Aren't the only people still playing this game like 12 years old. Where the hell are they going to get $25?

@julzeverne Lol, kids don't play WoW, it's a ten year old game. Even the "hardcore 12 year old gamers" probably don't know what it is because they're heads are too buried in Call of Duty.

@julzeverne If those "kids", if you want to call them that way ... can pay subscription per month, they can also pay a flying mount...

Btw, you shouldnt judge anything at all, without knowing if you are correct.

Kids dont have jobs to pay subscriptions, and World of Warcraft still has its players mostly cause of its amazing comunity, just so you know.

I played WoW until I got my first flying mount, that's when I realized flying mounts were the only thing I really liked about the game...

If gamers are willing to pay $25 for a mount then why should Blizzard which is a business you know and is about making money. If nobody would pay the price these things would be way cheaper.I bet you if they charged $50 for it people would still buy it.Every time they release new mounts like this I see a ton of them in game so it is a smart business move imo.

Also (Though not directly related to this particular article) the whole "Pet"-thingie, isn't kinda like a rip-off of Pokémon and similar? Especially when Blizzard tried/tries to make it look like its something unique and new?

Anyone remember the ancient times when Microsoft was bashed for people having to pay to play online (XBox Live) in addition to buying the games?

Do people even question such things anymore?

Btw, i think so called "micro-transactions" should be illegal, but if its about paying 25$ (Which is obviously not a M-Trans.) for the right to loan/use (I mean, its not like you really own anything) a friggin' worthless(?) mount and you actually fall for it, it's your own effing fault...

Also, like other people have stated: Why does this have it's own fucking article? Do you get ad revenue from Blizzard or what?

@BloodlustSweden Illegal? I think you might be stretching a bit there, and it's not like this particular example is that egregious. Okay, yeah, $25 for a mount is pretty silly, but it's not mandatory and you can get equivalent mounts in-game without paying a cent pretty easily. If people want to throw their money away because they have a hardon for bats, that's their prerogative.

@BloodlustSweden Bad place to try to defend them considering this is a sheerly aesthetic purchase. It adds nothing to the gameplay really.

@Rickchavis49 @BloodlustSweden Yes. Which is why i sooner or later always get drawn back to games like Neverwinter Night (or Baldurs Gate) and other "old" games.

(I am one of those "It's all about the graphics in todays gaming! HURR DURR!"-people btw, but thats another story)

@BloodlustSweden I see what you are saying now. I do think that selling such a thing is egregious. Their game is, however, fueled by things that don't exist. People spend countless amounts of time on their characters to no advantage in real life. People will buy this mount. I do think that micro-transactions in general are a little greedy. The fact that it is normal for companies to have day-1 DLC for $15 proves my point. Even companies that are considered "good" like Gearbox or Bethesda are doing it, which doesn't bode well for the future of gaming. The only way that we can fight back is to vote with our wallets, and only buy the games we feel are designed with us in mind rather than profit.

I don't have a problem with this really, Blizz can sell mounts all they want, I don't give a shit. If people buy them, I question their judgement, but I have no problem with Blizzard offering them.

But does this really deserve it's own article? Come on.

@Alex4789123 It's "worth" that because people apperantly are so incredibly stupid that they actually fall for it..

Maybe if you had a massive amount of cash...but i know that if having a massive amount of cash would be a position i'd be in, i would be well of on some isolate island drinking (and most probably doing some drugs) by now, instead of wasting my time with games like wow... X3

@Gravity_Slave @Alex4789123 Whilst your argument holds true in the gratuitus amounts of time spent on the game, I wouldn't expect you to realize why this is the most renowned MMO of all time by playing only a month. I played for 6 years on and off, and I realize how much time I sank into the game. However, some of my best and most rewarding gaming moments were spent in front of my monitor raiding with 39 other people. It's something you can't really explain. Moreover, you are right. On paper, it just seems all too ridiculous to spend all that time essentially getting nowhere in real life.

I played WoW for literally a month and I decided I'd rather not have a second job and pay a subscription for it.

Who says the US is a bad market for MMO? Look at this awesome purchasing power!

Releasing these extraordinarily expensive vanity items is very smart. If you can make them feel common enough, the $15 or so monthly subscription fee suddenly becomes that much more digestable. With F2P/microtransactions on the rise, sub fee is traditional MMORPG's sore thumb. What better way to capitalize on that AND use it to shore up support for subscription?

I feel that sub-based MMO + cash shop + who knows what else in the future is on its way to become the Aston Martin of gaming. The single game lifetime spending by a moderately dedicated player is nearly unthinkable by the average gamers not in the genre. I am really looking forward to where this road ends.

@Gravity_Slave If you let things rip you off, any product can be accused of that. Iphones, mobile games, WoW, F2P games, Xbox Live, you name it. If you let yourself get ripped off, because you want something that you could easily be without (like this mount, your WoW experience won't be worse without it), you only have yourself to blame.
