Gamers can fly the skies of Azeroth on an all-new mount, as Blizzard Entertainment has launched the Armored Bloodwing creature. It is available now for $25 in the Blizzard Store.

The Armored Bloodwing is described as a "monstrous" flesh-eating bat, "the perfect companion for trips that call for death and destruction."

Once purchased, the Armored Bloodwing will be available for all present and future characters players have tied to their Battle.net accounts.

The Armored Bloodwing joins a growing catalog of mounts and pets that Blizzard Entertainment has made available for a la carte purchase. It joins the Celestial Steed ($25), Winged Guardian ($25), Swift Windsteed ($25), and pets like the Pandaren Monk ($10), Soul of the Aspects ($10), and Cinder Kitten ($10).

World of Warcraft had 8.3 million subscribers at the end of March, down 1.3 million from three months prior. Its most recent expansion was Mists of Pandaria, which launched in September. No new expansions have been announced, though Activision Blizzard aims to release content more frequently to stem subscriber attrition.

If people wouldn't buy thise with real money the shop wouldn't exist. But since people do..no need to talk shit about the game. If you dont want to use real money then DONT, it's that simple. You can have fun playing without buying stuff with real money.

Wait this is a thing? So you not only pay your subscription fee but there is NO other way to get these mounts other than to dish out more real life cash? Wow...

@Terminal_Omega That's the free market for ya - once you monopolize it you can do whatever you want and get away with it.

@Annonith @Terminal_Omega The problem isn't the companies doing this, it's the people supporting it.

@Terminal_Omega

Yeah, they started it back with some out-of-game only purchase pets and it just took off from there. I stopped playing just before all that. The funny thing is, the monetary equivalent of things like this in FTP games is probably similar. I loved me some GW2 but dang did they squeeze you for every penny in the gem store.

@snugglebear @Terminal_Omega GW2 you never have to use the gem store. Everything in the GEM store is cosmetic or not needed ever to play at end game.

@kargion @snugglebear @Terminal_Omega The difference between the Gem Store in GW2 and this is that you can buy Gems with in-game gold as well as real-life money. While there are exclusive items in the Gem Store that cannot be obtained anywhere else and are DEFINITELY more than cosmetic (looking at you, infinite-use gathering tools), you don't have to spend $$$ on them, you just have to make some gold and exchange the gold for gems. If this was the case in WoW I don't think I'd have a problem with it.

@fatee @snugglebear @kargion @Terminal_Omega I never remember hearing about the Halloween pets or costumes dropping via chests. Everyone got something for free, but not those particular ones, to my knowledge. It's all purely cosmetic, but the rate of chest drops to the rate of key drops wasn't near equal back then.

Yeah, you can totally get by without it. I used it, but only for things I really wanted. This is just in reference to things like the mount shown above.

@Terminal_Omega some mounts are cash shop. Its WoW testing out the cash shop model. This is not bad thing since there are TONS of mounts that you can get with out paying cash. Once mount cash shop is not end of the world. Granted this will not make me go I want to play wow again lol
