Batman: Arkham Knight announced for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and you'll be able to drive the Batmobile

[UPDATE] It's official! Game Informer has confirmed that Batman: Arkham Knight will be its main story for its April issue, and has revealed slightly more about the game. Arkham Knight takes place in a much larger Gotham city, with wider streets to allow the Batmobile to be properly integrated. Penguin, Two-Face, and Harley Quinn will also feature alongside Scarecrow.

"We kind of feel like this is the natural end to the story," says Rocksteady co-founder Sefton Hill in an interview. "We want to kind of go out in style."

UK retailer Game has listed Batman: Arkham Knight for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with the item's description featuring details about the game and box art.

Batman: Arkham Knight is described as the "explosive finale" to the Arkham series in the (now removed, but spotted by VideoGamer) product listing, and says players will be able to drive the Batmobile around the streets of Gotham. The Batmobile.

It is also said that Scarecrow will feature, and reunite the series' villains. Probably with the collective aim of trying to ruin everything for Batman, at a guess.

A 2014 release date is shown.

Rocksteady, the UK developer behind Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, is shown as the game's developer.

I was very disappointed in the last two Arkham titles because they lacked the vehicles but finally we get the Batmobile drivable. I do not like the design of the batmobile though I was hoping they would have used the 90s version that was in the first AA game. Hoping for more options for the car and the batsuit but I am very interested and if done right I will buy.

Read somewhere that the poly count (the number of polygons that make up an in game object, for those who don't do the technical side) for just one character is the same as the entire environment of Arkham Asylum. That is crazy. This is going to be good.

This is going to be an awesome game to the Arkham series, always been consistent with the story and gameplay. Can't wait to per-order this on PS4! and to top it off get to use the Bat Mobile and bigger area's to explore gonna be a blast playing trough this.!

@diggyphelps Honestly, I thought her review of Arkham Origins was pretty spot-on. The gameplay of that WAS too similar to the other ones, in some cases even recycling old boss fights. She wasn't the only one who said that in her review, either, btw, GamesTM magazine also said that in theirs. Not to mention all the bugs it had. Since Rocksteady is developing this one, I'm hoping they'll be able to innovate like they did from Arkham Asylum to Arkham City.

You wanna make a case for why Assasssin's Creed 4 got such good reviews even though its the 6th carbon copy in the series? It was AC3 (which had boats mind you) just solely in the caribbean. The Arkham Origins hate was unmeritted, there are so many worse games out there getting better reviews. The electric gloves were an awesome addition because it gave players the choice of toggling between Asylum-esque combat vs City-esque combat. It desereved an 8.0 in my opinion. @diggyphelps, thats an amazing point, it's actually really true. Review sites shouldn't make reviewers with certains tastes, as Carolyn has proven in the grand majority of her reviews to have, play games they don't like in the first place.

Well Carolyn isn't going to like this one then either because I'm betting the gameplay is largely the same. There will probably be a couple new bells n' whistles thrown in (Batmobile) but for the most part the gameplay will be the same polished greatness. If she is not into that then fine, but I'd rather they pegged someone for the review who isn't bored with the series.

I agree about the recycled boss fights and I doubt that will be an issue with AK (Rocksteady). My main point is though, Carolyn appears to be bored with the series and I would rather they have someone review who is not.

Basically, I know alot of people on this site got irate over her review, yet I didn't see what all the fuss was about because her criticisms were pretty much echoed by other reviewers too (repetitive and recycled gameplay, no real innovation). If you enjoy the game hey that's cool, more power to you, I just happened to agree with the review after having played the game myself. Like destinhpark said above, I would like to see them change some stuff around on the next game so the series doesn't become monotonous.

I'm hype for this game based on the developers track record, but I really can't stand CGI videos. I want to see the actual gameplay, I want to see what the games graphics actually look like, etc. These videos are a waste of time and money that could be better spent on making the game better. If all of this is possible in the game then make the video using the in-game engine, but if its not possible then don't build false expectations.

Okay, so what happened? Was the monetary loss on Arkham Origins so great that Warner Bros wasn't seeing a profit gain from moving the franchise in-house? Or has Rocksteady been taking their sweet ass time in developing this sequel all along and Warner Bros decided to make an uninspired prequel in the name of moneymoneymoney? Either way, I suppose I don't give a shit since this is being developed by Rocksteady and I finally get to drive The Goddamn Batman's Batfuckingmobile!

Doubtful console limitations had anything to do with the Batmobile. The environments of City (and especially asylum) didn't make for a good place to drive a car.

At least not w/o tons of loading screens which no one likes.
