Batman: Arkham Origins multiplayer mode revealed, not coming to Wii U

Asymmetrical 3 vs. 3 vs. 2 Invisible Predator Online mode developed by Brink studio Splash Damage; won't be available on Wii U.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced the multiplayer mode for Batman: Arkham Origins, revealing it is in development at Brink and Enemy Territory developer Splash Damage, and won't be available on Wii U.

No Caption Provided

The online mode--Invisible Predator Online--will be supported on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC versions. No mention was made of why the Wii U had been passed over for the game mode, and a Warner Bros. representative declined to comment.

The asymmetrical 3 vs. 3 vs. 2 mode meshes traditional Arkham gameplay with third-person shooter mechanics, according to Warner Bros.

The game mode supports eight players divided into three groups: three thugs from Joker's gang taking on three members of Bane's group, while Batman and Robin attempt to take out members of both criminal groups.

GameSpot recently went hands-on with the Invisible Predator Online mode for Batman: Arkham Origins. For more, check out GameSpot's impressions.

Batman: Arkham Origins launches October 25 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC. It features an expanded Gotham City and is set years before the events of the original games. The game is in development at WB Games Montreal, not Rocksteady Studios.

A portable version, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, is in development at Armature Studio for PlayStation Vita and 3DS. The game launches alongside the console versions on October 25.

This has become an annoying meme: "Won't be available on Wii U", for god's sake that should be implicit on every announcement, It might sound better to state "Will be available on Wii U" only when required.

@proletaryus It does get a bit stupid.
Destiny not on Wii U!
Halo 5
not on Wii U!
Last of Us not on Wii U!

We get it, stop this already, whoever is writing this anti-Nintendo propeganda.

@AlexFili @proletaryus Well... Halo 5 and The Last of Us are understandable as to why they're not on Wii U.

I don't think it needs multiplayer, but i really not surprised that the WII U isn't getting it, the Wii U is getting the pass for a lot of things as it slides deeper and deeper into nothingness

@thekazumalord It's decisions like this that just make it harder and harder to deal with as a Nintendo fan. Just add it to the list of companies that have a grudge against Nintendo for absolutely no reason.

@Thanatos2k I doubt that's the reasoning. It's probably because they don't want to spend money bringing it over to WiiU which has thus far done pretty poor as far as sales. It might not be profitable. Just speculation on my part

@prideofNY No, it's just a case of 3rd party devs being lazy with Nintendo. http://playeressence.com/warner-bros-issues-a-statement-on-the-lack-of-wii-u-multiplayer-for-batman-arkham-origins/#more-22897

@GSJones1994 @prideofNY Could be but given Nintendo's history regarding third parties I wouldn't put the fault past Nintendo. edit: just read the article and yeah, that's kinda what I was saying. So few people are buying the system that it's hard to warrant allocating more money towards a multiplayer that barely anyone will play.

lol@ people saying the Wii U version should be cheaper. Missing content is something that is common these days. AC4 and WD include bonuses for the Sony platforms. You don't see people saying the PC and Xbox gamers complaining about the price. Deal with it. You Wii U only should be happy they even decided to port the game to your console. You got nothing to really play at the moment so be grateful.

@Legend002 So if your console got the same treatment you would be fine with that? Oh yeah lets scrap all multiplayer on PS3 because their audience is tiny

@Legend002

Removing an entire online multiplayer is a lot different than one version of a game having exclusive content/DLC.

@Legend002 You totally miss the point. There is a difference between DLC exculsive (because that what it is in AC and it's like a week, you cam buy it later... if you care of course) and cutting multiplayer.

@Legend002 What Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed IV are doing is different. Sony partnered with Ubisoft to provide one exclusive piece of DLC that generally lasts about an hour. Warner is cutting something that's already developed on Wii U that generally will be far longer than one hour for a lot of people. I don't care one way or another about it because I've no interest in the series, I just think that Warner better not complain that their game won't sell as well on the platform.

But is that so hard to do a pure combat challenge (like before) but cooperative?

@meatz666 I think it is pretty hard. The combat system uses slow-mo a lot for the pacing. Slow-mo is problematic in co-op as the time would run differently for the two players. Then they have to solve problems like both players attacking the same enemy, and the players paths intersecting etc etc.

I don't think it's impossible, but I can understand if it's somewhat of a mess.

The mode looks interesting, but this really seems like a way to draw in another demographic of gamers.

First the Deathstroke issue was resolved, now I have a new issue to make me consider getting this game on either PS3 or Wii U. Then again, I rarely play online, but having the option of this mode is always nice.

It's like the developers don't want people buying the Wii U version or something. People with more than one console are likely to get one version over another because of crap like this.

Watch some poor sheep try to come in here and spin it out into a positive like - Oh wow no multiplayer? That means SP will be even better on the WiiU!!!!!

When the poor suckers don't even realize they are paying the $60 for the game as well.

Nintendo clearly doesn't care about their fans.... whatever happened to the Nintendo seal of quality that you used to come labeled on their games? But then again beggars can't be choosers and Nintendo fans are hungry for games so I guess they'll happily take whatever leftovers gets thrown their way

The only way I see this being Nintendo's fault is if that they themselves don't do anything to get the mode included.

This is more WB Games Montreal and Splash Damage not caring about Nintendo fans.

Well if I was running Nintendo I'd stand up for my fans and not allow the game be released on my system if my fans were going to be cheated out of something. Simple as that.

The multi-player mode sounds interestingly different. Should be pretty fun, you know, so long as you haven't got a Wii U.

@thegamegod The single-player is being developed by WB Montreal, while the multiplayer was outsourced, so I highly doubt it will be detrimental to the experience. I am still very pissed that Wii U owners are getting a lesser game for the same price, even though I do not, but plan on, currently own said console.

@thegamegod

NO single player game needs multi.

great multi doesn't need single player.

azz multi needs single player.

azz single doesn't need multi, since, the 2 gametypes are separate entities.

it's time for multi to become completely separate from the single player campaign.

make it digital AND cheaper than the single player price.

of course, the single player is overpriced, as well.

@udubdawgz That actually would've been a total disaster. They would charge you 60 for the game and another 15 for multi. They will not make it any cheaper.

@komuchen @udubdawgz

my comment has NOTHING to do with what's best for the devs/pubs.

as well, i just said multi should be a separate entity and should be cheaper. multi should be significantly cheaper, multi should be digital which would be significantly cheaper and games are already overpriced.

and, don't tell me that its set in stone and nothing can change and all is inevitable.

if consumers stop buying overpriced games and USED their power things would change in about 1 year.

i could care less about devs/pubs making HUGE profits and living in luxury.

it's ALL tied together and gamers need to wake the pluck up.

EDIT-

btw, a multi-ONLY game would NOT come close to using up the amount of resources of the single player portion.

multi is a completely separate entity.

what you are stating is only true IF the single player portion is part of the mutliplayer game.
