Battlefield 4 on Xbox One could feature head-tracking

DICE examining possibility of using Kinect sensor to allow players to peek and lean around corners, speak voice commands.

Battlefield 4 on Xbox One could feature Kinect-powered head-tracking, executive producer Patrick Bach said in a new interview on the Xbox Wire.

No Caption Provided

He explained that DICE is "looking into" features that "enhance" controls, including using Kinect for peeking and leaning, as well as further head-tracking. This is in addition to using Kinect for voice commands.

In July, DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson said Battlefield 4 would use Kinect on Xbox One only "where it will make sense."

"We have a pretty pragmatic view [on Kinect]," Magnus Troedsson said at the time. "Instead of just trying to tick all the boxes of features you can do with new hardware, we look at what actually adds value [for] our players."

Also in the Xbox Wire interview, Bach confirmed that Battlefield 4 on Xbox One will support 64 players and run at 60 frames-per-second. "This is a big deal for us because it's always something we've wanted to deliver but we couldn't do it without taking away from the core 'Battlefield' experience," he said.

Battlefield 4 launches on October 29 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The PlayStation 4 version arrives on November 12, while the Xbox One iteration hits November 19.

A current-generation console and PC multiplayer beta for Battlefield 4 begins on October 1.

meh, the military in real life shoots the body, so not too realistic to keep insisting on headshots.

I love when developers release games before the console is available. I can just imagine thousands of kids clutching $60 game cases in their sweaty palms anxiously awaiting a midnight madness console release that's three days away. :-)

If this happens then they have no excuse not to have such a feature for TrackIR or Oc Rift on the PC.

The real news is they are looking into peeking system like maybe Vegas 2 or Gears. That I would like. I don't want to have to move my head around to do it. That's dumb.

So how sensitive would this be do I turn my head away from my screen and my guy ends up poking his head out to get sniped or maybe i move in my chair, it needs to be useful not a burden if I have to hold absolutely still to not randomly lean

@FollowY0urBliss @oOhedzOo I mean kinnect is an xbox exclusive devise and BF4 doesn't support leaning from corners, but if it does only by using kinnect, then that would be odd because it will be exclusive to xbox users.

But I'm interested if they add leaning mechanics in BF.

@oOhedzOo BF4 for next gen have already been having a leaning mechanic.... For example the PS4 dice has decided to use the six axis motion sensors built in the ps4 controller.......So all u have to do is tilt the controller to eaither the left or right and your character will lean

@sscaling @margod117 depends on how much you move your head and how much it will actually effect they view on screen. They dont have to make it super realistic.

Forza 4 did this with the original Kinect and it worked pretty well. It's not like you're turning your entire head ALL the way to a certain direction.

Even the slightest movement can make a big impact, and there is also a sesitivitey adjutment bar.

there is a very simple way of making it possible to peak around and over cover - Far cry 3 did it well and now COD:ghosts is doing it (while it doesnt fit COD gameplay at all - they're still doing it) - so why wouldnt Dice do it?
i'd buy BF4 instately if leaning around corners was possible. it's a feature im eagerly waiting to be implemented.

@topeira I've always wondered this too. I've played several online shooters and although they may not have been up to par with BF, there was at least a lean feature and scope elevation adjustments. BF is finally adding the scope adjustments. waiting n the leaning. it will change the gameplay A LOT

I'm no fan of xbox or kinect, but I'd absolutely love to see if they manage to make this work! I have so far not seen any good implementation of head tracking, considering our heads are usually facing straight, looking at the stationary tv screen.

Leaning and peeking should have been a core part of every fps this gen. It is just common sense. No one should have to blindly enter rooms or blindly sprint around corners.

I remember seeing this on a PC game. It looked and felt amazing. Why because it made the game that much more hardcore, you played with more strategy then just running out in the open. I would love to see this with Battlefield 4, on the Xbox One, Please make this happen DICE thank you!
