BF3 players to get Battlefield 1943 after all

After reneging on its BF3 bonus offer, EA says players who bought BF3 for the PS3 will get Battlefield 1943 as originally promised.

Battlefield 3 publisher EA has confirmed it will give players who bought Battlefield 3 for the PlayStation 3 a copy of the 2009 PlayStation Network title Battlefield 1943. The confirmation comes after accusations of a bonus bait and switch; in June, PS3 players were promised Battlefield 1943 for free when they bought BF3, but on the day of launch, EA cancelled the deal. The subsequent discontent amounted to the recent filing of a class action lawsuit against EA.

Battlefield 1943 for free, as originally promised.
Battlefield 1943 for free, as originally promised.

Now, EA says there have been "some misunderstandings" around the deal, and to clear those up, it is restoring the original bonus, "making Battlefield 1943 available free of charge to owners of Battlefield 3 on the PS3 beginning this month".

European BF3 players will get a hold of the freebie from November 26, while those in the US will have access from December 10, and those in Asia from December 17.

The PSN freebie doesn't appear to affect the one-week exclusivity window for Battlefield 3 content that was to be offered to PS3 owners as a bonus in place of Battlefield 1943. The class action lawsuit against EA noted the bonus was an unrelated promotion publicly announced significantly in advance of the game's shipping.

To claim your Battlefield 1943 PS3 voucher, see EA's help page on the topic.

At least PS3 gamers are getting bf1943... it got outright cancelled for PC despite EA/DICE claiming it was going to be tailored for PC... Just like they did with BC2, saying it'd be tailored for PC.... Just like they said with BF3, saying it'd be tailored for PC..... Still waiting for that "Tailored for PC" Battlefield experience, because BF3 as good as it is, there's still some consolized things there (hopefully will get fixed with patches, but still..)

just played around with it and well do not see why EA made such a fuss regarding the free download thing - it is not that great if you have played BF3 for some time, but "cute" free game

Yeah, "Thanks" EA. Your number crunchers probably told you that it would cost less to give us the game rather than take on a lawsuit. That doesn't take back the disenchantment over how everything played out.

@billlabowski LULZ UR SO CLEVER. No, actually. If you're promised a deal, you better get the damn deal. PC gamer or console gamer, doesn't matter. The point is not to let these corporate cronies smack you around.

Haha. And consolers love to say that PC gamers complain, when they go and start a lawsuit against EA. What's that saying? PC gamers complain, mod it and fix it, then complain that they had to mod the game, we don't start lawsuits lulz.

You guys, this isn't about how good the game is. EA promised a promotion and backed out at the last second. Company's need to be held responsible, otherwise us, the consumer, will always lose. Think about our pre orders and all the bonuses some games give, think of your favorite game and learning that at the last second you get nothing. Props to the consumers that wouldn't let them get away with it.

The hell was the misunderstanding? EA wasn't going to give the content out what's so hard about that.

I've owned BF1943 for about two and a half years. It's a fun little game, but with only three maps, it gets old rather quickly.

The funny thing is: 1943 isn't really that great. I've had it for a while and got bored with it pretty quickly. The Vietnam expansion on BC2 was much, much better. Also, the 1943 VOIP is just as broken as the BF3 VOIP. Enjoy!

@nousername66 Like EA is any better, think you would get this if they weren't sued for bait & switch? They're just as greedy as Activi$ion, they both suck just the same...

I'm surprised that, at this point, someone still cares that much about Battlefield 1943. I guess that's what EA was thinking too.

@IAm_PUFF_FearMe. I think you are kinda right, because i thought about this from the beginning that EA was promoting for PS3 just because COD does that for Xbox. I'm not an Xbox owner but it seemed they weren't caring about ps3 but about topping COD, for me AC did better things for PS3 owner with ACB when they gave them the mission and What's about BF 1943?! we get AC1 with ACR which is a full modern PS3 game.

@Tevi Lol Where the heck did that come from? 1943 wasn't that great of a game in the first place, at least when compared to 1942. Why don't you go ahead and try it on your PS3? Oh wait...

"Now, EA says there have been 'some misunderstandings' around the deal, and to clear those up it is restoring the original bonus" Bullcrap, EA. You guys said plain and simple that a free downloadable Battlefield 1943 game would come with BF3. There were no "misunderstandings". Either that or you guys have some incredibly poor speaking skills.

Lol good, how in the hell is a timed exclusive a bonus for the ps3 players? Whether its exclusive for a week or a month, if we're getting it, then its obviously completed and would have come out then anyway, you're not rewarding ps3 players, your simply screwing over xbox players, or vice versa like it is with CoD, thats the case with all timed exclusivity.

@WafflePrime They don't care for their fans though, that's just it... If this wasn't made into a class action lawsuit i can absolutely guarantee you, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they would have done nothing at all...

So, ps3 owners get early access to Karkand and now they also get 1943 for free? Why don't they also just show up at each ps3 owner's house and personally kiss their respective asses. Are 360 owners going to be completely thrown under the bus in all of this?

I'm glad the PS3 owners won this, BF3 not having that extra game put me off from buying it. But some posters who pointed out that EA and Ubisoft and whoever else only care about money are extremely naive. Every single publisher only cares about money. If they didn't care about money they wouldn't be in a money making buisness

EA got what they deserved, and players got justice. See? This is why players whould wisen up and not become puppets of corporation like EA and Activision. They will only screw you over if you let them. Just make sure to make enough a public noise out of it and bad publicity for them, and they will yield soon enough. They are not invincible, we still have rights.
