BioWare MMORPG landing in 2009

come on make it KOTOR 3 MMORPG

Bioware is working on 5 games at the moment: Mass Effect (planed as a trilogy) Dragon Age MMO New Next Gen Game New Hanheld Game (for DS)

The fact that it comes from BioWare alone leaves a lot of room for optimism. Can't wait to hear more!

Remember people that gaming companies have more then one team within their company to make different games. For instance, right now Lionhead Studios is mainly working on Fable 2, but they supposedly (From Molyneux himself) have another team working on a secret game. If Bioware decides to make this RPG, they could have another game... Obviously they have two teams right now if they are actually working on it now, and working on Mass Effect. So once Mass Effect is out, again, they can still be working on two games at once. So many people jump the gun, it's ridiculous... I have no doubt that this MMO will be awesome... WoW came from a company that mostly worked with and was awarded for Strategy games, and was great. Pretty much all of BioWare's games are RPG's, and if they take any or all of that stuff, and put it into this (Which they shoud), there is no reason why it won't be great.

Good to see Bioware getting more involved in their PC roots, this plus Dragon Age is a good thing. No need to worry though, as Bioware has a few studios, so they CAN handle working on more than one game at a time.

Here's to hoping they can pull of the "complex event processing." Although I think people will want to know more about the genre and platform and possibly a little bit about the gameplay before jumping onto this :) I know I would.

First Mass Effect, someday for PC, and then whatever humanity needs without Mass Effect.

Think of it this way: Blizzard (Diablo, Warcraft, Starcraft, that's it) vs. Bioware (ID/BG, NWN, KOTOR, Jade Empire, Dragon Age, Mass Effect). Bioware's single most redeeming quality is that it can take a single genre and thoroughly reinvent it so many times over that it never feels stale. Blizzard on the other hand is content to milk their three golden geese and aren't interested in innovation or reinvention. Expect this to be an original property from Bioware and expect it to be something that can hand WoW its lunch.

i would just like to remind any bioware affiliates reading these comments to PLEASE make this a KOTOR mmo. i mean dont think for a second it wont be huge just because its not popular with these jaded rpg-fanboy gamers

I would much rather Bioware make KOTOR 3 than another MMO. Even if the MMO is any good it would most likely pale in comparison to a single player RPG.

This sucks. If Bioware is working on this then it probably means that it isn't working on the next traditional RPG game after Mass Effect. This really, really sucks. I'm ready for some new rpg games now...NOT a new MMORPG.

Hopefully this will topple WoW. If something that comes out earlier doesn't.

Like I don't have enough of a hard time staying away from MMO's. Now that BioWare's making one, I hope it sucks so it doesn't steal my life.

This is like saying "I'm gonna make a game better than you, just wait and see! Then you'll be sorry!" This news is meaningless and will be forgotten in the next day or so. People play MMOs to get away from their real lives. Using some crazy event-planning software routine doesn't make the game any better or worse, it's the content that counts.

We shouldn't even know about a game that's coming out that far in the future. That's like going to Disney World and seeing a sign telling you about a great roller coaster that's going to be at that spot in five years.

I sincerely doubt it's going to be a KOTOR kind of MMO. There's already a Star Wars MMO out there in which you can do a VAST number of things, and LucasArts are probably quite happy with that one as it is. No real point in speculating at the moment, to be honest.

a FREE mmo from bioware? where do i sign up? ok... that was never mentioned and is quite unlikely but imagine a subscription caliber mmo with no monthly fees and no crappy instanced zones like guildwars but in the KOTOR universe... will in game ad revenue be enough to fund such a beast? would you guys mind micro-transactions?

Oh and, I don't think this game should be based on any previous games. A KOTOR MMO would have a biased fanbase. You'd have people who are totally against it, and those totally for it, and those on the fence would be way to scared to try it. Same goes for something like a Baulder's Gate MMO, many people would be turned off by it. What BioWare needs to do in order to "Trump" WoW, is to produce something totally fresh and unique Just like many of their other games. Just do what WoW sort of did, the full package, something for everyone to enjoy. And i don't mean COPY WoW, I mean, refresh and revolutionize the genre.

to be perfectly honest I would have preferred BioWare to stick with making RPGs for Xbox 360. There's enough MMORPGs out there.

Bioware will absolutely come through, I'm sure of it. Out of all game developers, I've never seen a company with so many quality games. Every game they've released has never fallen short of pure GOLD and always wins awards. i've thoroughly enjoyed their games and I hope to see what ground the will break when they step into MMOs. I just hope the online fee isn't TOO high.

MMo's are terrible, waste of time poor excuses of games... ...however, Bioware never lets me down so it must be good.

Whatever it is I hope it’s very successful for Bioware but I probably will not be among the players of the game. (I avoid MMO games, as I doubt my willpower to escape from them.) It is interesting that everyone seems to be suggesting KotoR, Baldur’s Gate, or Neverwinter Nights… but all three of those settings have a MMO already. (Of course from what I hear they’re not very good or are at least very flawed.)

This is good news. I would have to bet my bottom dollar that it will be a KOTOR MMO. I say this only because if you look at new job listings on Bioware, you will find a listing for a Licensing Liaison - being a liaison for the IP for the upcomming MMORPG. Right there i can make the assumption that the title isnt one of their own IP's I believe Lucas Arts also has a new job opening for something along the lines of Oversight of Lucas Arts latest online title, as well as former online titles (star wars galaxies) Who knows though. Baulder's Gate would be a crazy awesome MMO as well. Anything Bioware has my vote.

Crap, please, please, please don't be a KOTOR MMO. After I quit WoW I decided I would never touch another MMO ever again. But if its KOTOR I don't know if my willpower will hold out. I don't think it will be though. KOTOR is too single player oriented. A good bit of what made the game fun was the branching dialog trees and events, dark/light system, as well as the well thought out plot. Those elements don't translate to MMOs well if at all, so I'm guessing that this MMO is either going to be something new altogether, or based off of one of their older franchises like Neverwinter or Baldur's Gate.
