Burnout Paradise Remastered Release Date For PS4 And Xbox One Revealed

Take me down to Paradise City.

Burnout Paradise is getting a current-gen remaster, publisher EA has confirmed. The racing game has been given a PS4 and Xbox One release date of March 16, while the PC version is coming "later this year."

Burnout Paradise Remastered will include the base game and eight add-on packs--including the open-world expansion Big Surf Island--as well as the Legendary Cars pack, which brought vehicles based on those from movies such as Back to the Future and Ghostbusters. EA says this new edition includes technical enhancements that include "high resolution textures" and 4K / 60 FPS support for PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. It will cost US $40 / £35 / AU $48.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Burnout Paradise Remastered Confirmed For PS4, Xbox One, And PC

No Caption Provided

We enjoyed Paradise upon its release in 2008, with critic Alex Navarro saying it's a "superbly fun racer" in our Burnout Paradise review and awarding it a 9/10. It's still the most recent game in the mainline series of Burnout games. Since then, developer Criterion has made one spin-off--Burnout Crash--and Need For Speed: Most Wanted, as well as helping out with other games such as Need For Speed: Rivals and Star Wars Battlefront II. It was also working on an extreme sports game, though that was later canceled, with EA saying the developer was experimenting with new IP.

For my money, Burnout Paradise is the single best racing game ever made. I've always loved the more arcade-y racers to more "sim" type games like the GTA franchise, and Burnout Paradise was just so much fun for hours and hours. I love it. As much as I would love a new Burnout game, I'm tempted to buy this remastered version since my PS3 died and I never replayed the original after buying a new PS3.

Ok EA, this is a remaster, not very difficult to screw up. You screw this up, then I'll come to the conclusion that you can't do a damn thing right. Prove me wrong EA....prove me wrong.

I can't fathom why they wouldn't have brought this to Switch; that's the only way I can see justifying a re-release. Regardless, being EA, I'd be skeptical that they haven't loaded this up with loot crates and pay-to-win nonsense.

Whoever wants it, should buy it. Whoever doesn’t want it, shouldn’t buy it.

I want a sequel, but see the value in this. Me and my boy love the original and it's lots of fun. I'm just a fan, so keep your crying to yourself, thanks. Not gonna change my opinion baby boy.

Considering that the original version is backward compatible on the X1 and still looks great. This is beyond a rip off.

@craigtl: If that were the case EA could have easily not allowed it to BC and just released the remaster, giving people an option shouldn't be seen as a negative imo, we don't have to buy it.

Also, the PS4 doesn't have BC so whether the game is BC on Xbox doesn't really matter to publishers.

@b00me: I totally get what you are saying but 40 bucks is a bit much. I like remasters. I got all of the resident evil remasters. I'm almost a little ashamed to admit that I purchased Skyrim remastered and I own a digital copy for my 360 that I still have... but I fuckin love that game so I guess it all comes down to how you feel about a game. I just feel like this burnout should go for less than 20.

@craigtl: I'd say that if the original wasn't BC then it would be a rip-off/cash grab. But as it is this is just a CHOICE for those who CHOOSE to get a new version for whatever reason. Not necessary but also not really a rip-off.

@craigtl: I too think the price is a bit high for me and will wait for it to drop into the EA Access Vault. But seeing as the original is BC this is no skin off my back, for those who need a shiny new version go for it.

A 10-year-old arcade racer with imaginary cars for $40. What a deal.

The game that started the modern SaaS gaming. Have a dull "city" stage, make a few hundred copy&paste races from X to Y, Y to B, B to A and A to X, have crappy basic vehicle handling which treats all vehicles the same. Promote the game "form a posse and race the streets with whatever comes to mind" and a huge bunch of DLC.

A perfect example of what went wrong between the heavily scripted yet amazingly handcrafted and detailed Burnout 3 where every turn and hill had a reason to exist, and a game where they essentially just throw stuff around and say "Drive somewhere". After about 2 races you've seen all the possible routes, and you rarely even see the guys you're racing against, much less have collisions.

It had some unique charm back then, but the quality drop was massive.

Who would have thought that the 2 words: "EA" and "remaster" would come together in a single sentence? Is the world coming to an end? Does EA have a secret knowledge about a large asteroid heading towards the Earth and it doesn't care anymore? I support every remaster so I'll get this one too but I'll wait until much, much later when the price drops as this is not done right, which is the usual EA standard, and I want this message to get across. There are 8 games in the Burnout series and the right way to do this would have been to remaster the first 4 and charge $40 for it, $10 per game. If that had turned out to be a success then they should remaster the remaining 4 and follow it up with a new game. Activision would probably have done that. In short this is another half baked effort by EA who seem to be in a panic mode over all the hate the're getting, which by now sounds like hysteria. Greed is not a good adviser and it shows through the flaps here.

@EricShadow366: Recycle should not be a word associated with any bad connotations in this day and age, quite the contrary. You wanted to whip EA but it didn't quite work. But I get your meaning.

@ChrisAnetkaC: That's one of the most ignorant comments I've seen. Hilarious that you mention Activision as someone who would have done it better... just like the COD4 remaster... you know the one they added microtransaction supply drops into the MP that weren't originally in the game... and then charged people for DLC map pack. Amazingly Activision is the only publisher to not include all the DLC in their remaster. Let me guess.... you don't see the greed there do you since you just praised them.

@b00me: I forgive you because you're clearly hallucinating. Do you realize how much it hurt me to give Activision any credit? If anything I consider them more greedy than EA, if that's even possible. I haven't got the COD4 remaster due to what I heard about it. As much as it pains me though I, and anyone with any sense, have to admit their superiority in the remaster department over EA. First: they do it without showing it contempt. Second: they remaster 3 older games, which requires significant effort, and sell them for the price EA is charging for slightly updating a few textures on a single fairly recent game (they most likely had 1 developer turn it out in a one afternoon). Without asking anyone's opinion EA pick one random game out of the multitude they are trying to stomp out of human memory and give it a new life and you go berserk with joy praising them to the sky. Your disbelief combined with happiness at this behemoth sparing one flower from the cruel fate of the entire field stomped to dust is understandable but lead you to an exaggerated sense of gratitude that dulls the true perspective.

@ChrisAnetkaC: Hopefully it isn't just a ploy to find ways to add micro-transactions to older games. Other than that, it looks good. But in 2018 it doesn't look $40 good. I'll hold off for a sale price at some point, will know if they added said micro-transactions by then as well.

@Thretosix: Very reasonable. One must tread carefully when dealing with EA. They only have themselves to blame for this paranoia. I can see how the "Shadow of the Colossus" remake or "Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy" are worth $40 but this?
