Take me down to Paradise City.

Burnout Paradise is getting a current-gen remaster, publisher EA has confirmed. The racing game has been given a PS4 and Xbox One release date of March 16, while the PC version is coming "later this year."

Burnout Paradise Remastered will include the base game and eight add-on packs--including the open-world expansion Big Surf Island--as well as the Legendary Cars pack, which brought vehicles based on those from movies such as Back to the Future and Ghostbusters. EA says this new edition includes technical enhancements that include "high resolution textures" and 4K / 60 FPS support for PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. It will cost US $40 / £35 / AU $48.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Burnout Paradise Remastered Confirmed For PS4, Xbox One, And PC

No Caption Provided

We enjoyed Paradise upon its release in 2008, with critic Alex Navarro saying it's a "superbly fun racer" in our Burnout Paradise review and awarding it a 9/10. It's still the most recent game in the mainline series of Burnout games. Since then, developer Criterion has made one spin-off--Burnout Crash--and Need For Speed: Most Wanted, as well as helping out with other games such as Need For Speed: Rivals and Star Wars Battlefront II. It was also working on an extreme sports game, though that was later canceled, with EA saying the developer was experimenting with new IP.

Cool soundtrack, not sure mechanically it will hold up today even with nice graphics.

@barcaazul: It does. I've played it quite a bit on my XoX at 75", and the shocking part is how much slower my old hands are now.

Loading up a 100%-completed game from a decade ago and retrying even the mid-level races took a LOT of warm-up.

@Pyrosa:

That I can imagine. I played this on PS Plus at Christmas on PS3.

The top speed seems quicker than the camera, or I am just getting old

@Pyrosa: Haha, what's old hands? I know 2008 was ten years ago, but I'm 30 and I don't feel like my reflexes have suffered at all. Now, jumping back in the saddle again after so long to shake off the rust is pretty normal.

@ahmetxca: Hey, unless something unfortunate happens along the way, we all get there. No need to worry about something that is inevitable. Maybe pick up some of those grip squeezer exerciser that work each individual finger, might help out a bit too.

@thelostscribe: Well I don't know about you, but I started losing dexterity in my hands roughly around 35. I'd say you've got a few good years left before you start feeling effects.

Where is the remaster of Need For Speed: Most Wanted 2005 EA??!
If you're not gonna remaster the best NFS game ever at least let MS add it to backward compatibility!

@fox_fury: I still have yet to play Hot Pursuit 2 on PS2 which I hear is the best NFS from THAT console generation.

@PSYCHOV3N0M: Yea HP2 was great at the time, but Most Wanted 2005 is still awesome as gameplay and core mechanics plus customization. It would be awesome if they made a remaster with today's graphics, or at least add it to BC on xbox. :)

I remember playing this when it first came out and not really enjoying it. I believe it had something to do with not being able to restart races right away, having to drive all the way back to the starting line if you wanted to retry. I heard that they fixed that, though. I may give this another shot just because I'm really dying to play a Burnout game again.

@JustPlainLucas: They did fix the restart issue. My biggest problem was that due to the way the map was designed, and due to there being no GPS line, I would regularly take one wrong turn and come in dead last as a result. In a game where I'm going this fast I always thought a little forgiveness should be added.

I am getting tired of all these remastered games. I have a decent backlog so I guess this doesn't affect me at the moment but it'd be nice to see new entries to these franchises instead.

@romeothebeast: The only reason for a remake of a game from a series that dropped off about 10 years ago is to test the water to see if it is worth bringing back. Maybe to give Forza Horizon some competition? I personally would have rather they remastered Burnout 3 or Revenge, both of those were really great. Paradise couldn't keep my attention.

@thelostscribe: Burnout Revenge is without question a fantastic racing game I spent way too many hours with. Would love to see that remaster, but I’ll take Paradise. Hopefully it will make some bank so the whole series can move over to current gen.

@thelostscribe: I understand the logic but I still think a brand new game made for current generation hardware would be a much better way to go about it. You're right though Burnout 3 & Revenge were the most fun I had with the series. I am actually playing Revenge now on my 360.

@romeothebeast: Yeah, but a remaster is a much cheaper market test. I agree though, I'd prefer to get just a new game in the series with some fresh ideas.

$40 seems steep for an HD facelift. The PC version of the game already runs at high res so I'm not sure how critical this is. It'd be nice if they brought Big Surf Island to the PC finally. They released it as an update for the console versions, and then said "eh, screw it" before leaving a half finished version of it on the PC version that could be unlocked with mods.

Also, while this was a good game I don't know that it's the Burnout game that many Burnout fans are really dying for an updated version of. Updated version of Takedown and Revenge (which both have Crash Mode and no even semi-modern versions) I think people would be more eager to get, but they'd have to do a much more extensive rebuild to update those much older games.

And Dangerous Golf and Danger Zone are poor substitutes for Crash Mode.

I remember getting this game for free after the PSN blackout in 2011. Even then I found the game to be outdated.

At the moment we need a new game in the series, not a lazy cash-grab. Oh well, it's not like I'm buying EA games anytime soon.

Ehh...

Burnout Paradise is amazing...was amazing back in the day. It is still a great game today, in fact when it became backwards compatible last year I put in another 20+ hours.

There is no need for an update, unless they are adding new content. The original is still sufficient in my opinion.

starting to feel that the last generation was pointless with all the remasters and it is getting boring, feels like only sony exclusives at this point are worth it

@heartindarkness: You're reading it wrong. The last generation was not pointless. It was but a step forward towards the current gen. Some games had the misfortune of being released on it so it's only logical they should be upgraded to be enjoyed for years to come.

Honestly it's nice to see work on a Burnout game. I much prefer the Burnout franchise to that of Need for Speed, so I have been disappointed that there have been no new Burnout games for a long time.

Watching this trailer for the remaster, it still looks like an older, dated game, even with the upped resolution, compared with newer more modern racing games. Granted, it still has one of the best damage models, but not the best anymore, that goes to Wreckfest, which in my opinion when completed, will be the best car game.

This remaster is most likely to determine whether there is enough interest to develop or release a new Burnout game at the moment. I would buy a brand new reboot or sequel with modern engine and tech, but I wont be buying this remaster.

I hope EA do make a new Burnout or Road Rash in the future, THAT would be good news.

(please don't mention Road Redemption to me, I thought that was lackluster in comparison)
