Capcom praises DmC and Dragon's Dogma in FY13 earnings

Capcom announces a ¥2.97 billion profit for FY13, and will more strongly invest in "directing our development resources to the development of online games" in the future.

Capcom has announced an expected profit of ¥2.97 billion (approximately $30m/£19.3m) for the 2013 financial year, following its revised April forecast.

No Caption Provided

As predicted, Resident Evil 6 "did not meet with [Capcom's 7 million sales target] and thus was not able to play a role in leading the segment's sales growth." The game has sold 4.9 million copies.

UK developer Ninja Theory's take on DmC: Devil May Cry "enjoyed stable popularity in overseas markets and posted solid sales," with the game's last sales tally coming in at 1.15 million copies sold.

The popularity of Dragon's Dogma was "greater-than-expected," however, and saw an "unprecedented" million copies sold for an original title.

Despite making a profit, Capcom was down 56 percent year-on-year in net income. The publisher previously blamed its current outlook on "excessive outsourcing" and "a delayed response to the expanding digital contents market," two problems it aims to rectify by funneling ¥7.2 billion (£48 million/$73 million) into a company-wide restructuring.

Looking ahead, Capcom expects to make a good amount of money in "directing our development resources to the development of online games (mobile, PC online and downloads for consumer games), which is a growing area, and by releasing large-scale titles such as 'Monster Hunter 4' and 'Lost Planet 3' focused on the domestic and overseas markets respectively."

For the next financial year, Capcom expects to make ¥6.8 billion ($68m/£44m) in net income.

Of course Ninja Theory and Capcom don't want to admit DmC sales sucked. After all the hate it's been getting and the fact that it sold less than half of what DMC4 sold. It was a franchise reboot that was a complete failiure. Sad thing is they're probably in complete denial and thinking up the next sequel to Donte may Cry as we speak.

@Crossel777 It actually sold OK in comparison to the other games in the franchise.

Pretty sure it came close to DMC1. Didn't sell any more than the rest though.

@TohouAsura @Crossel777 Kind of sad how dmc3 sold the worst and it's the best in the series.

@Crossel777

It might've sold enough, depending on what they spent on it. What they're saying here is that they still made worthwhile profit even without the desired numbers.

Still unsuccessful as a reboot. They would of been better off and it probably would of sold more if they stuck with the previous DMC universe and characters.

Played it, wasn't worth the time or the money I put into it. What a waste of a good franchise. Fond memories I had the with DMC but it's time to move onto other games. Jesus I had more fun with Metal Gear Rising than I did with this pile of shit.

@Crossel777 I spent over 60 hours playing DMC, and only 14 hours playing MGR. I think you're lying. MGR is a good game, but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to damn short.

@Hellhound30x @Crossel777 Rather silly, because people like you will next say "adopt or dont play" to people who have actually played it and hates it. Also demo is whole game in 15minutes, why they should spend however it costs now when they didnt like demo in first place?

@Sandro7 You mean, "adapt" don't you? Also you should know I was saying the exact same things you are right now, before I played the game. I've played the game, and its definitely Ninja Theory's best game. That whole "demo" argument is void, and irrelevant. You cannot, and I mean CANNOT say you've played the game with just the demo.

You disgusting liars, shipped does not=sold, plus a few weeks ago you basically said DmC did bad due to excessive OUTSOURCING. Stop trying to twist words into your favor, DmC was hated with fury greater than a thousand suns burning since day 1.

@Kyrylo @dragonkantus @caffiend7 Thing is, vergil never was truly "villain" in orginal series, sure he was last boss in DMC3. But he was after same thing what dante was, revenge their mother death, he just chosed to use different route than dante. He also had several changes to kill mary(lady) during DMC3, but he didnt, as he wasnt after human slavery/killing or world domination.

@dragonkantus @Kyrylo @caffiend7 mainly things that were removed. And also few addition like platforming, communicated attacks and colored enemies. I also think that story was meh. Story of originals were lighthearted, but that's why I never questioned it. New one tries to be serious, that's why it shows off every plothole it has.

I contributed to dragons dogma sale. I bought dark arisen and the game is harder than I expected. I am not sure what to do and I am running from fisherman village to some wooden fort backward and forward, not sure what to do next. Wish I have more time to play this game.

@Karmazyn my friend said he had the same problem with not knowing what to do so he traded it in. i never had that problem when you get to the wooden fort just go to the rift stone in the tent, rest up then should trigger event to fight the hydra. once you done that find a woman in the fort with a quest that takes you to the capital Gran soren. hope you carry on Dragons dogma is a class game!

That's a typical Capcom dickmove. They bring out a worthwile game - better wait for the super turbo ex alpha 3 version.

@gamingnerd121 @carolino That is probably the reason why the DLC was stuffed on the disc since it probably does some code retool underneath as Pawns from the updated game to no work with pawns from the original game. Complexities abound, so DLC was stuffed into the disc to ensure that you can avoid that issue and also allows Capcom to re-introduce Dragon's Dogma to the masses with DLC included as a bonus.

Fantastic that a crappy company that basically tells its fans to f off like Capcom makes a profit. I see why they have no reason to ever give a flying flip about anything.
