Capcom Suing Ninja Gaiden Publisher for Patent Infringement

I don't see why everyone is all upset and have to quote, "Oh they just want more money."

Let me ask you something. If you patented something long ago through the government, and someone uses it without your permission. Wouldn't you sue for damages as well? If not, than I guess you don't value your work.

Capcom only has 500+ million in the bank. I suppose they had to do something! Even if that something means they have no legal standing.

I guess this is another way for Capcom to generate revenue.

I guess Capcom could do with the money. They can use use it to release more versions of street Fighter IV and more shitty games that aren't Mega Man.

Anybody know what's really going on here? Everybody violates everyone elses patents because it's impossible not to. So there must be a bigger reason that Capcom suddenly decided to sue. This is why companies need patents. Next, Koei Tecmo will pull a patent out of their bag and accuse Capcom of violating it, if they have one.

Can we just get the original Xbox version on Ninja Gaiden remade please? This is a very dumb lawsuit but Capcom needs to put that in a settlement offer.

Capcom, its yourself to blame. You had tons of opportunity to make cash, but no, you cancel Megaman Legend 3, which A LOT of 3DS owners were really looking forward to and one of the main reasons on buying the handheld. Not only that, you blamed the fans for the cancellation saying that we were not giving enough support....really...You even ruined/killed off a lot of your major franchises also.

Capcom owns a patent on that? Seriously? In Ocarina of Time 64, when you get near a spot that has a hidden grotto, the controller rumbles.. could Nintendo have patented that, and locked Capcom out of another frivolous patent?

I hate that they were allowed to patent that. Software patents are a terrible idea.

Setting aside for a moment the knee jerk "Capcom sucks and makes horrible games lately and that's why they're doing this" response.

If Capcom really did get a patent for a system that allows players to unlock content from an older title in a newer one, then chances are they have a decent legal case. Koei has basically been making the exact same game for about two decades now.

It isn't a matter of "if you can't beat them, sue them" since, frankly, neither company is exactly turning out paragons of innovation or masterpiece games over the last half decade or so...or longer. Patents exist specifically to incentivize innovation by giving a financial reward for doing so. If Capcom's patents have indeed been violated, then more power to them for trying to enforce them and get monetary reimbursement.

The patent system needs a major reformation, when you are able to patent the most miniscule and general things such as being able to use the line "with friends" in various media forms, there is a serious problem.

How can you patent a specific way of using a controller's rumble motors in a game? It's not like Capcom designed the controllers

How can you have a patent on unlocking content from an older game in a new title? That's a flimsy claim. I'll be surprised if they have standing.

Capcom is failing they should listen to the Fans they have no one to blame but themselves

I've played all 4 of these games and I didn't really notice that any of them have these 2 features. So no, I really don't think those 2 features helped sell games at all, imo.
