Konami launching demo July 31 through Steam for Ultimate Edition of upcoming action title; full game due August 27.

Konami will release a demo for the Ultimate Edition of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow on PC tomorrow, the company announced through the game's Facebook page recently. Mercury Steam's action game was originally released only for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2010.

No Caption Provided

Lords of Shadow for PC, due out in full on August 27, will include expansions Reverie and Resurrection, as well as 1080p graphics at 60 frames per second.

The game will be available on Steam, where players can unlock achievements and make use of cloud saves.

In addition, Lords of Shadow for the PC features new storylines, weapons, skills, battles, and environments not found in the original console game.

For more on the original Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, check out GameSpot's review. Mercury Steam is currently at work on Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, due out this winter.

Consolized trash port. Skipping a cutscene should be as easy as pressing a button. This is why I stopped buying EA games.

@Snaptrap

What are you talking about. This game runs and looks amazing on PC. It is very well optimized.

And skipping a cutscene is as easy as pushing two buttons (start and A, I believe). If that is too hard for you, that's sad. I wouldn't want it to skip cutscenes with only one button press because it would be too easy to skip cutscenes by accident. It's perfect the way it is.

@kalipekona Btw, you'd have to be a complete moron to accidentally press the "Start" button.

@kalipekona In addition the controls are garbage, especially in the clock tower where Gabriel just lets go of the wheel or where he's running and the controls get locked into a set direction that you were using from the previous camera angle.

@kalipekona For a game with a fixed camera, the graphics are average at best. A lot of games allow cutscene skipping by a simple button press, and on top of that they even allow players to watch the scenes again through an extras menu. Sadly, this game has next to nothing for extras. Developers like that think about players who've played the game for the 10th time.

It plays and looks so much better on the PC and I was very impressed when I first played it on PS3. I cannot wait for this! I'm interested in the part about new battles, weapons etc that is exclusive to the PC.

@YoreLore They dont even mention those when you read the description on steam. All they mention is Reverie and resurrection. Probably another marketing scam imo.

Tried the demo and the difference between this and the PS3 version is just fantastic.I was expecting pre-rendered cut-scenes but they were actually running in real-time.The textures on Gabriel could have used a bump in resolution and definition (well it was a demo but i still hope for some change in the final product) but as a 3d artist it's nothing i can't fix myself using Texmod.

Yeah, considering the DLCs are $10 each on the consoles, this is a pretty great deal.

It's a super long game too. And I loved every minute of it.

I've just downloaded the rather short demo from steam and all I can say is.......august 27th cant come soon enough :)

It plays beautifully on PC and we get all DLC for free too.

I rather liked the game as it was on consoles, so getting to play it on PC with a silk smooth frame rate (Bye bye choppy console fps!) will be a treat. <3

@Fernin-Ker Oh and it is... just played through the demo. The difference is night and day.

Graphics options are sadly limited (I rather hope that's because this is the demo, but I doubt they will improve).. but it has SSAO at least, and it does look nice enough maxed out.

On consoles the game was a great example of art direction making up for/hiding weak hardware, so while on PC we get those visuals magnitudes sharper, I doubt they'll add anything other than the ambient occlusion that has an effect on the art style, so I honestly wouldn't hold out for terribly many more gfx options.

But hey, look on the bright side, the ability to appreciate said art direction now is like going from looking through fogged glass on consoles to clear crystal on PC.

Personally, that's fair enough for me. ^^

I agree. The textures look better because of the higher resolution and the 16x aniosotropic filtering on the PC.

Also, the console versions have no anti-aliasing of any kind, so being able to clean up the image quality with SMAA or the in-game anti-aliasing options makes everything look much better as well.

I have, and when I did I loaded up the game on my TV as well (360 version) and in the PC version the textures seems considerably sharper/more detailed and there seems to be a bit more in the way of particle effects. Of course it could just be my imagination, but that's how it seemed to me.

@Fernin-Ker @willzihang I wasn't holding out for anything more than the demo (which I have already played through) - hence why I said I doubt they'd improve the menu.

I don't know if you have played the demo, but it doesn't look a whole lot better on PC-- the main difference being the smooth framerate, which for me actually makes the game playable.

i dont want a god of war formula games on my pc.

the restricted camera sucks, and the combat is cut and paste from a game that, as much as i enjoyed GoW1, the sequels are all just not the fresh experience like the first so i'm heavily turned of by the GoW formula.

@wowgrandpa Oh so YOU don't want GoW type games on PC?

Thanks for that, but I hardly imagine Konami base their releases solely on YOUR desires.

@ptflea1

At amazon the 360 version is $19.39 and the PS3 version is $21.95.

And if you are talking about used then who cares? I would rather buy a game and have my money go to the developer. If I was going to buy used I might as well pirate since the developer won't see any money either way.

But I'm not going to do either of those things. I buy my games and I like knowing that my money is supporting talented developers like Mercury Steam to help allow them to continue making great games.

Besides, those console versions don't even include the two DLCs, which cost $10 each. Not to mention the PC version is just superior all around.

And even the used copies are like $10 and with shipping that would be like $14.

@ptflea1 - This is on the PC though and has just been put on the PC so it's not the same as the Xbox version. They aren't going to make this optimised edition and charge a fiver for it.

@ptflea1 I know, I bought it for about that much used.

However I traded it the very second I read of a PC port; as when I played the Xbox version the framerate was unbearable.

Watch as some of the most elitist pricks complain that it is a crappy console port and how they should have made this game to custom fit their expensive PC only and how they should have forgotten everyone else.

@EdAl2112 What, so they should 'forget' that people also own powerful gaming PCs?

All PC games should have extensive graphics options, so many people benefit-- those with weak machines, and those with super-rigs.

@EdAl2112 LOL They only make games for crappy dated hardware because they think that is where the money is! Then forget that the two platforms don't cross well, and then perform like shit on a superior system with some PC effect to throw in just to use some of the new features to PC gamers happy. Problem is it performs like crap!

@thegamegod Very well optimized indeed but to fully enjoy this a gamepad is absoluetly required (I recommend the wired Xbox 360 gamepad, works perfect with button animations and rumble) since this is a QTE hack and slash game but wow this game is worth getting for Patrick Stewarts epic narrators voice and great soundtrack alone :D

Yeah, thanks. I always use a gamepad for games like this.

I agree on the great voice work by Patrick Stewart (and most of the other cast) and the soundtrack is amazing.

@kalipekona @thegamegod I have a weaker computer (i3 3220 and a 660) and the FPS never dipped. And I agree with printul and yourself, defintely requires a controller but most 3rd person games do In my opinion.

@ali_manslayer Hahaha yeah PC is getting it now after 2 years , still better than Crysis on consoles though because that was released 4 years after PC release . Console version was also useless , at least it will be superior on PC and Castlevania LOS 2 will be released on PC the exact same day as Console versions . It's not about late release on PC , it's about rise of digital distribution platforms like steam , which is attracting console publishers to PC as well .

Yeah, great isn't it? Better than not getting it at all. I loved this game on PS3, but the framerate chugged in many places. I always hoped for a PC release and it's great that it happened.

Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 will be releasing day and date on all three platforms (PC, PS3, 360).
