Cyberpunk 2077 Devs Is Asking Players Not To Stream Before Official Release

With early copies of Cyberpunk 2077 doing the rounds, CD Projekt Red wants to make sure the game doesn't get spoiled.

Cyberpunk 2077 is finally nearly upon us--read our Cyberpunk 2077 review--with a release date set for December 10, and it's anticipated that some players will get their games early. Between copies that shipped early, retail mistakes, and press/influencer copies, it's possible that information will be out there ahead of launch--and developer CD Projekt Red is asking that anyone with a copy holds off on streaming. It also hinted that videos would be removed if players don't follow this request.

In a tweet on the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account, the devs have asked people not to stream the game ahead of launch--and warned, in their own way, that action will be taken against anyone who does.

Now Playing: Cyberpunk 2077: YOUR Questions Answered!

"We kindly ask you NOT TO stream/let's play, or release similar content before December 9th, 12PM CET / 3 AM PST," the post reads. Otherwise, they joke, in-game organization MAX-TAC will be sent after you (which means, probably, they'll take action to have the video removed or stream ended). It's possible it could also cause players to get a copyright strike.

You can read their full statement below.

Of course, one of the core tenants of the cyberpunk aesthetic is the rejection of authority figures, and rebellion against the powers that be--but CD Projekt Red probably won't listen to that argument if you break this rule and try to make it.

Cyberpunk 2077 will have cool photography options, so it's likely you'll be creating content you want to share. The game is launching on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S through backwards compatibility. True next-gen versions of the game will come later. You only have a few days to wait now if you haven't been lucky enough to have your copy show up early. If you're playing on Xbox, you can also pre-install the game, even if you haven't purchased it yet or are going to play it with the disc.

DLC will come for the game, too, but it won't be revealed until after launch.

people would do it without the developer saying not too, best to avoid spoiler until you get the game and play it yourself.

@nintendians: You're putting too much trust in people not to spoil the game. People, as you know, are full of shit. You would need to impose a complete self-blackout of the entire internet to avoid spoilers. Shit, I'm sure someone on Political Gamers is just waiting to throw a spoiler into one of those threads as we speak.

@YukoAsho: do i even care what other people put up or spoil it for me, if i end up seeing it anyway then that's my fault, it's not like someone pointing a gun at me and force me to watch/read/hear it. ha... talking about "full of shit", again i don't care. do i really need to "go dark" on the internet to avoid spoilers? uh... no, because i could control myself and still avoid it (it's not even that hard at all). they could throw all the spoilers with extremely detail, but i'm still going to enjoy a game i like to play despite that i read it about it, because it's not my experience but theirs.

Really shouldn't even have to ask, but people in the gaming community are such complete assholes and love to spoil things.

@esqueejy: Not just the gaming community. You've seen this around major films as well.

"Cyberpunk 2077 Devs Is Asking..."?! Don't you mean "...Devs ARE Asking..."? That's an English fail!

If the game relies that heavily on plot, then there is a problem.

@so_hai: why?

I mean, I primarily play competitive online multiplayer games with no plot whatsoever, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with a game focused on only storytelling.

@so_hai: It wasn't a problem for Wild Hunt, So. Commercially, at least, it would seem. Nor for virtually any other mainstream single player release over the past decade and a half. That said, I do wholeheartedly agree with you on this my beloved friend. 🤟🐍
