Cyberpunk 2077 PS5/Xbox Series X Versions Will "Come Later," So Don't Expect Them At Launch

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that next-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077 are on the table, but we shouldn't expect to see them with the launch of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Cyberpunk 2077 will indeed be getting separate next-gen versions on Xbox Series X and PS5 in the future, but developer CD Projekt Red has warned fans that they won't release alongside the new systems. Instead, they'll come further down the line, after the consoles have launched, and following the release of the Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Stadia versions of the game.

"In terms of Microsoft's console, like I said, we have officially confirmed both the update and the cross-gen availability, meaning that you'll be able to play the game from the get-go on the next-gen," CD Projekt SVP of business development Michal Nowakowski said, according to Video Games Chronicle. "However, when it comes to a proper, full-blown next-gen version, that's going to come later, we haven't announced when and I don't have a new comment here on that."

Now Playing: What Cyberpunk Red Teaches Us About 2077

Nowakowski also reiterated that Sony hasn't said whether PS5 will support enhanced PS4 games (like Microsoft already has for Xbox Series X and Xbox One) so there's no official word for whether PS5 will be able to play an enhanced PS4 version of Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red has already confirmed that an update for Cyberpunk 2077 will allow Xbox One users to upgrade to an Xbox Series X enhanced version for free, but the same can't be said for PS4 and PS5 (for now).

"There's no official announcement coming from PlayStation so we really can't confirm or deny anything," Nowakowski said. "It's PlayStation that first needs to address these issues and then we're happy to make a comment, but we can't jump the gun ahead of them."

Nowakowski also confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 is still on track for release in September. There are currently no plans to delay the release of the game.

So they were not smart enough to upres the graphics for future gens, as most games should be done nowadays. If I were a game developer I would upres a few versions with 15-20% increases of texture detail for each version.

If Gen = 0, then grfx=defaultgrfx

else if Gen = 1 then grfx = grfx20percent

else if Gen = 2 then grfx = grfx40percent

else if Gen = 3 then grfx = grfx60percent

else if Gen = 4 then grfx = grfx80percent

Rake in the remaster dollar$.

The game will probably bomb so why commit resources prematurely. I predict it will be a glitchfest from the get go.

@dynamotnt: I was LOL'ing at the "it will bomb" part.

And all things considered, Bethesda's games are beyond infested, but everyone still lines up for those.

Future games (at least for a while) will be marketed for brand (XBox or PS) and will run in any model of console (and even on PC in the case of XBox) but will only install the proper assets (low, medium, high).

So will the PC version represent the version they'll make for PS5? Or will it be a mere PS4 port?

@rekonym: pretty sure it will be PS4 ONEX port. The textures in the gameplay video were current gen looking.

@rekonym: Much like The Witcher 3, the PC version will be the best version. In fact you can pretty much call all of their games PC games with console ports. This is after all, a game developed for Nvidia hardware, and you ain't gonna find that on any console.

So the answer to your question is... no way.

@rekonym: PC version will be the gold standard, with the current gen consoles versions behind that.

The "next gen" versions for PS5 and XboxSX will fall somewhere between the PC version and current-gen systems.

@Spartan_418: Well that changes with the release Ampere GPUs where a person won't need to spend RTX 2080ti prices on a mid-high end card just to match or exceed next gen consoles, not to mention all the benefits of having RTX that come with it.

@lonesamurai00: your opinion is based on the fact that those 95% users will upgrade to whatever GPU will come to the market. The game will be running on PC pretty similar to the next gen consoles if the PC gets upgraded to the ampere or RTX 3XXX series. Less than 10% will upgrade to the latest GPU so majority will be having inferior experience than console players. RTX 2080TI has been out for a while and not every PC player or even 10% of the total PC players have that in their PC myself included. I will play it on PC because it's an FPS and I like using M&KB for shooters not because I am "PCmustardrace".

@hrv_25: Since console gamers like to hang onto Steam Hardware Surveys like some branch on a raging river, they should check now to see that the RTX models are the most popular models as of this year, and the fact that the 3xxx series will be more affordable is going to further this trend, at least on the Nvidia side of things. I can't speak for AMD stuff as performance benchmarks haven't surfaced yet.

Now your making these predictions based on what? I don't know but they read like opinions more than anything that I have said, as current and past trends on the PC are the precedent. The fact is that any PC Gamer always has the choice to better both his hardware and his gaming experience is part of the trend.

A console owner will have to live with the same hardware for many many years. He has no upgrade path until a newer console emerges, but there is no guarantee or promise of any new consoles after the coming ones.

P.S. The PC version of Cyberpunk will be far better on the PC because the game is built for Nvidia hardware owners. Plus they know that PC Gamer were pissed with the lack of certain features with The Witcher 3, so they won't want to make that mistake again. With all the news and the efforts, it's pretty obvious that they are going all out with the PC version.

@lonesamurai00: popular? RTX cards are not even in the top 10 of the most common graphics cards to date. The next gen GPUs wont be cheaper than the next consoles in any universe. And that's just the graphics card, good luck to people who want to assemble a whole system with performance in mind. I am not talking about how PC users have flexibility in upgrading. I am talking about a game that will be coming to next gen consoles probably next year and how majority of the PC users will have inferior experience than the next gen owners due to the "FACT" that majority of said PC users dont have latest graphics card to handle ultra performance. You dont need to preach me upsides and downsides of PC and console gaming, I am well versed in that.

The current console trend Is changing which is pretty clear when you see the spec sheet of the next gen consoles. Xbox series X almost matches RTX 2080TI in terms of raw power. Ps5 has SSD that isn't even out for consumers and I can bet the SSD will be pretty unaffordable when it becomes available to mass market.

I dont see any problem with people who spend $500 for a hardware that will allow them to play games for 7 years without the need of upgrading. Same goes for the PC users who spend upwards of $2000 dollars and more to keep their PC updated to meet the ever increasing demand in graphics fidelity. Different folks different strokes.

A game built for nvidia graphics card doesnt guarantee better performance if you dont have the specifc graphics card to run it on ultra and maxed out. A GTX 1060(most popular card till now) wont be able to achieve what xbox or ps5 will be able to achieve.

@hrv_25: Uh yes RTX cards will yield better performance than those console easily since Nvidia has been working closely with CD Projekt Red to insure just that. In 2015 AMD GPU owners created a huge uproar. AMD accused NVIDIA of sabotaging AMD card performance in The Witcher 3. AMD users were, and still in some cases have appalling performance with the Witcher 3, and the same thing is most likely to happen again since Nvidia and CD Projekt RED are locked in a partnership with Cyberpunk 2077.

Look, I get it. You're excited - and considering where you're coming from with the current gen consoles, I really don't blame you. You all are dancing in front of your bathroom mirrors in excitement, but please stay grounded - keep your composure. These are still just consoles after all.

Now, forget Steam Hardware Surveys, Nvidia has the market share because of RTX cards. PC Gamers want the only true level of ray tracing that you are going to get in the coming years. Don't get me wrong here. You should be happy for the new consoles, hell I'm happy for the new console because it means that PC Gamers will benefit greatly.

See, you have to go by Steam Hardware Surveys because it's literally all that you, or any console gamer has to go by, but If that is in fact your gauge to base this on - then you're absolutely doing it wrong.

First off, no PC Gamer has to opt into the surveys. It is not any prerequisite for using the service. Second, Steam is not the only place to buy or play their PC games. I know many people who don't use Steam at all, and they have PCs with specs such as mine. You would be stupid to even base something like this on surveys from a game store.

It's actual sales, and the resulting market share that should be your gauge. This would be the most accurate analysis of this topic, and the only way to see a true overview of who is buying what exactly, and not simply getting numbers from a games store that gives you a option to use the surveys.

This article is dated from the 5th of this month from a leading tech industry website, and insider.

Good news for Nvidia as gamers embrace RTX graphics cards according to Steam hardware survey

https://www.techradar.com/news/good-news-for-nvidia-as-gamers-embrace-rtx-graphics-cards-according-to-steam-hardware-survey

Do yourself a favor and stop using bullshit Steam surveys. I know it's all that a console gamer has, but it's not a true or accurate gauge at all. Product sales, and market share are what tells the full story, and that should be the only way to properly view this topic. Doing any other way is dumb.

Also, the Xbox Series X performance is all speculation. There have been no real world showing of what it can actually do. Saying that it is anywhere near the RTX 2080ti is simply your hope and dream, but it hasn't been confirmed at all. I'm hearing that the RTX 2080, and possibly 2080 Super might be where it lands, but the only people that I hear pushing it further than that are people who don't know, like yourself.

You shouldn't listen to "buzz words" from companies until you have the actual product in hand. They simply want to get you hyped for their product.

Wherever the Xbox lands it's going to be further distanced by RTX 3xxx series cards, and I can tell you now that ray tracing is going to be truly disappointing on these upcoming consoles, truly disappointing when compared to the PC in 2021 and forward.

@lonesamurai00: keep yapping nonsense. I love how you ignore the issue that was the beginning of the debate and spew random facts and bullshitery. A $900 card wont exactly be "cheap" that every PC user will pounce on. I have a PC and ps4, I dont care whenever the consoles or new lineup of graphics card launches. I dont pick up consoles usually on launch. Maybe you should read how many RTX 2080TI sold compared to GTX 1060 then you will know how many PC users have the top of the line card. Do you have it?

@hrv_25: It doesn't matter who picks it up or how many. The point is that it is there, it is an option the no console gamer will have period. I'm excited for the new consoles even though I don't play games on them, but it will benefit any PC Gamer such as myself. We know how it goes though. The devs will do what they want on the consoles where graphics and performance are concerned, and traditionally they play it safe. This is why on paper the Xbox One X was more powerful, but on any given game the PS4 Pro could have better graphics or performance.

My point is that, as a PC Gamer the tech will evolve for me, it will for you as well, but only once. Maybe you should read how many RTX owners there are over GTX owners. And stop comparing the Xbox One X to an RTX 2080ti because it wreaks of inaccuracies. I know that you are full of hope, but you're dreams are going to be crushed if you think that you are getting that much power for a few hundred dollars, even though that kind of power is now considered old by PC standards since the card is coming up on two years old now.

@lonesamurai00: lmao checked today and RTX models are not the most popular, the top 4 cards are all GTX 10 series with the GTX 1060 at the top.

Can't find any solid info on the 3000 series being cheaper, that doesn't seem at all confirmed, more like hopeful speculation. Even if it's true, the 3080 ti being "only" $900 or something doesn't exactly open it up to mass adoption

@Spartan_418: As for the Steam Survey numbers here.

Good news for Nvidia as gamers embrace RTX graphics cards according to Steam hardware survey

https://www.techradar.com/news/good-news-for-nvidia-as-gamers-embrace-rtx-graphics-cards-according-to-steam-hardware-survey

It's just a shame that I have to do the homework for you.

Now as for the lower priced cards, well moving to lower process node and fab could very well bring manufacturing costs down I have read, and it makes sense, although with the world in the state that it is in costs are most likely going to rise as a result.

With NVIDIA Next-Gen 8nm Ampere GPU being touted as 50% Faster and Twice As Efficient Than Turing, well $900 isn't bad since it would put it 60-70 percent faster than the GPU in the Xbox Series console. After all the upcoming console hardware is called the little Navi by the company who made it for a reason.

@hrv_25: You don't need to know my specs even though they are very very good as always. I have been gaming exclusively on PCs for ten years now, and I have been building and buying PCs for gaming for about what 30-35 years, and consoles were once nice to have around back in the early 2000s, but now since the PC Gaming scene has has such a resurgence - why do I even need a console?

My PC is extremely capable, and very up to date by PC Gaming standards - and yes I do run an RTX 2080ti. What the hell? It's paired with an Intel core i9 9900K. The rest is all Corsair and ASUS stuff with an ROG Swift PG43UQ panel that takes care of all of my needs. I will be upgrading that panel when 3xxx GPUs emerge.

The Series X will be nice, but it's being cobbled together with a lot of unproven and proprietary software methods. PC Gaming has and always will be about the hardware. Not only are PCs always going to be a more powerful choice in terms of hardware, but there are always going to be things that can be done, that you just can't do on a console - Period, and I find console gaming boring by comparison.

@lonesamurai00: That article is about sales momentum and "upward movement in terms of gaining market share". RTX cards being the most popular in terms of sales at the present moment does not equal the majority of gaming PCs actually having them.

Willing to bet the majority of Witcher 3 on PC has been/is still being played on machines less powerful than a One X, and at lower settings

@Spartan_418: No, it's about gained market share, market share which Nvidia has controlled steadily for a very long time. You can't gauge this with surveys from a store. It says nothing when compared to actual product sales, revenue, and market share as a result.

What you'd be willing to bet is of no consequence in this discussion. Hard facts are what matters, and the hard facts are that Nvidia controls the GPU market, just like in spite of AMDs resurgence Intel still holds, and controls the CPU market, and that comes from units shipped and sold, and the resulting revenue.

Nvidia RTX controls the market with units shipped and sold, which gives them revenue. And if you knew anything about the tech business you would know that Nvidia is very rich, and very powerful - just like Intel. They are both the market leaders, and that is how you ascertain who buys what. Considering that Nvidia is getting rave reviews for the update to DLSS 2.0 (one more feature that you won't find on a console) I don't see the trend ending anytime soon - like decades.
