Death Stranding Coming To PC Next Year

The emerging strand genre adds another platform.

Death Stranding is just weeks away on PS4, which was believed to be the only platform it was set to release on. But it turns out that prior indications that it might also come to PC were correct. Hideo Kojima has announced that a PC version of the game is coming in Summer 2020. A more exact release date was not announced.

In an announcement, publisher 505 Games announced it will publish the PC version. Further details are said to be coming in the near future. The announcement didn't detail if it's coming to Steam or the Epic Games Store, but 505 has published games on EGS this year including Control.

Now Playing: Death Stranding PC Version Coming Next Year - GS News Update

"We are extremely excited and honored to be working with the supremely talented team at Kojima Productions and to bring Death Stranding to PC gamers around the world," 505 CEO Raffi Galante said in the announcement. "Death Stranding will take gamers through a completely original experience that will delight PC gamers everywhere."

With Death Stranding on PS4 coming so soon--it launches on November 8--many in the community are waiting to hear more about it. We know the review embargo lifts on November 1, so that's when we'll get our first complete impressions of Kojima's latest experimental gameplay.

The studio has been teasing special guest appearances from celebrities, most recently comedian and talk show host Conan O'Brien. The cameos include some video game developers too, but Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinski says he passed on the opportunity.

@reasonist: I got a 2nd hand pro from a lad off facebook, £190 with 25 games and 2 controllers, even had gta v rdr2 etc. u can get some great deals on the marketplace. I made half the money back trading in loads of the shite games.

then you can save yourself some money when you trade in your hardware. for the PS5.

@reasonist: I can already play God of War and Uncharted 4 on my PC via PSNow. I can just wait for Sony's other exclusives to show up there sooner or later.

@pcps4xb: Definitely not as good as downloading and installing games but for only a few single player adventure games that only require one playthrough, it is okay.

@pcps4xb: I am really having fun playing God of War on PSNow. I can see why it won GOTY. I am glad that streaming now allows me to play Sony exclusives like God of War and Uncharted 4. With 5G being released on TMobile nationwide I think streaming options like PSNow and XCloud will become a more viable option moving forward.

That is why Xbox's Gamepass is so good. They don't stream games. Every game in their catalog can be downloaded and installed unlike with PSNow.

@firedrakez: that's half true and half the story. Ps now has over 300 ps4 downloadable games and is larger than the whole gamepass lineup. And another 500 streamable which brings it over 800. Now with the price drop the user base more than tripled. While i don't doubt gamepass or ps now is a good service, neither are for me. I might try a month or 2 here or there but not steady.

@pcps4xb: None of the games offered on PSNow is downloadable on PC, only on PS4. PSNow actually was a pure streaming service until the emergence of Gamepass pressured Sony to have a downloadable option for PS4 console owners.

Streaming a month or two is okay for single player games that you can play on one playthrough which is what most of Sony's exclusives are. That is what I am doing on PSNow with God of War. This won't work with many of Xbox's multiplayer exclusives that can be played for hundreds of hours after finishing their lengthy single player campaigns.

Fortunately for us the Ultimate Gamepass sub is a pretty reasonable deal offering both XBL along with Gamepass sub on both PCs and Xbox One(a 3 for 1 deal) that I and I think many others gamers can live with.

My guess is MS will be offering a better bundle deal that includes XCloud in the future so you can stream your games potentially on consoles, PCs, smart phones, laptops, tablets and Smart TVs in the future.

@firedrakez: so you're kind of agreeing with me that streaming is not that great. The downloadable option on Xbox exclusives is the reason why I and alot of other pc gamers feel is unnecessary to own an xbox console. I have an X now with very little use and if MS continues this trend next gen (which most likely will be the case), I wont need the next gen console. I'll be fine with a PC, a PlayStation and Nintendo. And I'm thankful to MS for that. Less stuff connected to my TV.

You mentioned xbox multiplayer exclusives. Those are good at best. The most popular MP games are multiplat and are more popular on PlayStation. And i haven't seen a MP/SP exclusive with a "lengthy" campaign in a long time from MS. But next gen we'll be seeing crossplay across all platforms which is good news for all gamers.

PS now made ps4 games downloadable not because of gamepass but the fact that ps4 games started releasing on the service. But being that Sony already has a well established streaming service ready for the future (I hope its not), MS is now fallowing with their own streaming service, Xcloud. I actually don't like the idea of streaming as a service but it seems inevitable.

@pcps4xb: Sony actually has no choice but to sign on with MS's Azure Cloud network. Otherwise it has no chance to compete with MS's XCloud and Amazon's Stadia. Cloud gaming has billions of potential customers compared to the millions they have on console. That is one of the reason MS has released their exclusives on PC and also the reason we are seeing Sony releasing some of their exclusives there as well. They just can't ignore those billions of potential customers outside of consoles.

Microsoft considers PCs btw as their platform as well along with their Xbox consoles. That is why they added all this apps(Windows gamebar, Xbox Console Companion, Xbox Beta app for PC) on their Windows 10 OS to make it convenient to check your achievements, contact your friends, download your games on either console or PCs, check the performance of your games on your PC(fps tracker) and broadcast and take screenshots of your games right on your Windows PC.

You can also access this apps on your phone as well, so basically all my devices, from my PC, smart phones, laptop, tablet and console are all interconnected allowing me to download games on my console or PC by clicking that option on my smart phone.

Pretty soon I will be able to play my Xbox One games on my phones, laptop, tablets, smart TV via XCloud as well so all those devices are all attuned to each other via Microsoft's connected cloud network.

@firedrakez: No choice but to partner up with MS's azure? Ofcourse they have a choice, where do you get that from? They just decided to partner up with them. I agree there are billions of potential customers but there are also billions without high speed internet. And AAA gaming is still not so popular for streaming, these companies are preparing for the future and when it becomes the norm Companies like stadia and Xbox will be trying to compete Sony because PlayStation is the most popular/biggest company in gaming today.

its nice to play xbox games across those devices but I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase another device to play the same games. Rather put my money on a different platform. And like you said windows is also a MS platform so I'll be supporting MS through the windows store next gen. I won't need an Xbox.

@pcps4xb:

Microsoft has already beta tested streaming from their company servers and starting the other day are beta testing streaming right from your Xbox One consoles so your homebound Xbox One console can double as a mobile platform by streaming its games right to your other portable devices like your smart phone, tablets and laptops anywhere in the world you can get an adequate internet or LTE(4G) or soon an even better 5G connection.

This even opens up the possibility in the future of being able to stream your games to your Fire Stick or Google Chrome devices so all you need is to bring that and your controller and just connect the USB adapter stick to any TV or monitor.

@firedrakez: yes I had heard I think about 2 days ago about the beta testing. It would be the main idea for a company to support as many devices as possible. Just like ps now did it a while back and am sure will happen again in the future for ps now, stadia and x cloud. But like I've said before I'm really not looking forward to it. I hope for a while that it stays an option and not the main way to game.

@pcps4xb:

For Xbox its more than just the fully downloadable Gamepass in terms of subscription service. It also includes XCloud which will allow you to turn your Xbox console(with its hundreds of games) into a server(or in the case of PC and mobile gamers use MS's own servers) to stream your games to your mobile devices allowing your Xbox console to give you the same advantages that the Switch console provides as a mobile gaming platform while retaining the power and performance expected from a home console.

For those who own PCs, mobile devices and Xbox consoles, Xbox's subscription services also integrates its features to encompass those other devices in 3 in 1(Gamepass for PC, Gamepass for Xbox, and XBL which are all elements of the current Ultimate Gamepass sub) or 4 for 1(if you include the upcoming XCloud which MS have announced will be included with Ultimate Gamepass next year) subscription deals that adds a lot of value and options to all your games and devices.

Google Stadia or Sony's PSNow simply doesn't provide the same value as the Xbox's Gamepass + XCloud + XBL combination.

@pcps4xb: Streaming games at home on your LAN network is not the same as streaming and playing games anywhere in the world you are at. The Xbox can do LAN network streaming as well for free with its steam link like Wireless display app.

Having an Xbox One is like having a 2 devices(Switch for mobile gaming and an Xbox for power and performance gaming) in just one console and you can also download on PCs as well.

@firedrakez: I play ps games on my phone at work. That qualifies for anywhere. You have to be hooked up to a Wi-Fi network. Not "your" wifi network. Once again you're in error like many other things.

@pcps4xb: With a gaming PC and the most powerful console this gen the Xbox One X to entertain me, I pretty much have too many games in my backlog to handle. No need for an extra console like the PS4 to add to that backlog, when I can stream the few games it has I am interested in. Streaming isn't too bad for single player adventure games that doesn't require fast movements. I was part of the trial for Google's Stadia with AC Odyssey at 1080p resolution which I played on my PC. Since AC Odyssey doesn't require the fast twitch reactions needed in multi player shooters, input lag which is a concern with streaming never became a problem. It is the same for Sony's mostly single player third person adventure games.

@reasonist: You are going to buy Pro when the TLOU2 comes out? Middle of next year seems a little late to be buying the Pro with the PS5 coming out only 5 to 6 months after the game is released in May (if it doesn't get delayed again). You might as well buy the Pro now and enjoy it for a year and trade it in for a PS5 later.

Freaking loved God of War, Bloodborne, and Uncharted 4 and was so worth the PS4 pro. Not feeling the upcoming exclusives like this and LoU2 though. Looks like this gen is already over for me. Nothing but Doom Eternal for me next year. On PC.

This is great news for me, I'm highly intrigued by Death Stranding, but there isn't presently sufficient rationale for me to purchase a Playstation 4 to play it. Games showing up on multiple platforms is always good news, and definitely the trend we should expect as consumers going forward.

this is interesting because Microsoft has been doing this for years, and now what was thought of as a very special, PS4 exclusive is also being released on PC. The point is what I've said all along... studios will release games on as many platforms as possible to make money, exclusives don't matter. That's why you're getting games like Forza on both PC and Xbox, but also since Microsoft owns Windows.. they're still making money. PC/Xbox or PS4/PC doesn't matter. Just play the games you love.

This is intriguing I wonder what this means for future Kojima Productions games. Will they be developed on Guerrilla Games engine too or will it be conditional on only releasing on PS4/PC?

@BassMan: I feel the same way. All the video previews so far paint a pretty boring picture. It just looks like a tech demo with fetch quests at the moment. Watching the character sitting in a bunker doing Sims like things doesn't interest me. Also, having so many recognizable actors in the game completely pulls me out of the game. The fantasy of the game is lost on me.

I'm on the curious side though, as it could all be done on purpose not to spoil the story of the game (the current embargo on reviews suggest this.) This could have been done to keep the core of the game a surprise, which seems very difficult to do nowadays.

Only a fool would think this announcement is a bad thing. If anything, the game being non-exclusive just means more people can play the game. And wouldn't you want more people playing a game you enjoyed? It's why I've no issue with Epic's store existing, but do have an issue with their exclusivity strategy.

This is great. I can already play many of Sony's recent exclusives on PC via PSNow like God of War and Uncharted 4 and can just wait for the rest to appear there.

For those who prefer downloads on PCs, they can now play many of Sony's exclusives as well on PC since the Quantic Dream PS exclusives have already been ported to PCs initially at the EGS store and later elsewhere and now Death Stranding.

Besides I am used to not buying games at launch since I consider $60 too much for a game. I usually just wait for games to come down in price before buying them. I am happy to have the opportunity to play Outer Worlds, Metro Exodus, Gears 5, etc at launch with Ultimate Gamepass on either my PC or Xbox One X, but I wouldn't have mind waiting as well to buy and play them later.
