Ahead of the August 19 release of Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Blizzard Entertainment has announced that when a patch is delivered for PC, it will come to those consoles shortly after. "To put that into perspective, the last time a huge PC game quickly mirrored patches on the console version was back in... well, never," Microsoft says in a post on the Xbox Wire.

Diablo III production director John Hight said that that when Blizzard began development on the game for consoles, he thought it would be impossible to release updates on console so quickly after PC. But now Blizzard can, Microsoft says, because the Xbox One is "powerful enough to handle large-form patches and can update games in the background."

Writing on the PlayStation Blog, Hight said pretty much the same thing about the PS4. "The next-gen console architecture makes it much easier for us to offer ongoing patch support for the PS4 version of the Ultimate Evil Edition," he said. "This means that as we continue to patch the game on PC, we'll now be able to roll out related patch content, as appropriate, on PS4 as well. It'll take some additional time beyond the PC patch rollout, but we'll get them to you as quickly as possible."

Just last month, Blizzard was still debating how it would support the game post-release. It remains to be seen just how long it will be after a Diablo III patch is deployed on PC before it comes to consoles.

Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition launches August 19 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. Blizzard recently confirmed that the Xbox One version will run in 1080p after you apply a day-one update. The PS4 version also runs in 1080p, and both iterations will offer 60fps gameplay. The game contains the main Diablo III game and the Reaper of Souls expansion. As we learned at E3, the PS4 version of the game includes infected from The Last of Us, as well as a special Shadow of the Colossus transmog set.

So it was dependent on the console architecture all along.

Don't get me wrong. Diablo III is a lot of fun, but most people kind of got their fill last gen. Add to that the fact that once you've played for an hour, you've pretty much seen all there is to see as far as gameplay. Of course, just my opinion, but the playing field has changed since Diablo ruled the gaming world.

@coolmastaj I too am very excited, I have the PC version and alot of people to play with on that but I actually enjoy the couch CO-OP of the console even though younger players can become frustrating to deal with it brings family and friends together and you can all gear grind in one room rather than communicating via headset or text.

Being able to transfer my , the kids and the fiancees characters from 360 to PS4 another plus as I didnt want to start all over again...again.

Microsoft's happy, considering developers have to pay them for every patch they release through Xbox network.

I think it's like... when they think of a great idea, or someone mentions a great idea they make an update. I think they add new dungeons and quests, content too, if not only during expansions.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> They are about to unleash these ports again and releasing worlords of draenor soon so of course they are behind the ball. Blizzard releases updates and patches fairly regular compared to other companies.
