Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition is now available on consoles, bringing Diablo III to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for the first time and expanding the experience already available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. While many of the changes seen in Ultimate Evil Edition (which consists of Diablo III and the Reaper of Souls expansion) have already been available on PC for some time, this is in many ways a different game on consoles; as such, we've gathered up some of the first reviews for your below.

Among the biggest changes and additions in Reaper of Souls are the increased level cap (it's now 70), the Crusader class, Adventure mode (providing a much different way to play), and a fifth act (complete with new enemies, areas, and items). There's a huge amount of content here, and Blizzard has committed to releasing regular updates for the Xbox One and PS4 versions in the future.

Those who have played the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions have the option of transferring their progress to their choice of the Xbox One and PS4 versions. Both current-gen versions run at 1080p, thanks to the release of a patch for the Xbox One version that brings its resolution up to par with its PS4 counterpart.

Check out the first sampling of reviews below. For more, check out GameSpot sister site Metacritic.

  • Game: Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition
  • Developer: Blizzard Entertainment
  • Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3
  • Release Date: August 19
  • Price: $59.99 (Xbox One, PS4); $39.99 (Xbox 360, PS3)

GameSpot -- 9/10

"Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition feels like the happy conclusion of a two-year public beta, with the initial purchasers on PC bearing much of the grief with the auction house and the slow pace to reach level 60. Those who have held off up to this point will benefit the most, while those who got a head start on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 versions will be able to transfer their saves to their new gen console of choice. It's just a shame that some newcomers won't appreciate what the early adopters went through to make the fantastic game it is today." [Full review]

Quarter to Three -- 5/5

"This latest release, glumly named the 'Ultimate Evil Edition,' for next-gen systems includes all the awesome stuff from Reaper of Souls that finally upgraded Diablo III from a game I really liked to a game I loved. Now it's here on the platform of choice for local gatherings and couch gamers, and it's even got a few lagniappes that the PC version doesn't get. New rewards for killstreaks, gifts to send along to your friends list, a nasty nemesis that dogs you and your friends just to remind you all that, hey, you're each still playing Diablo III even though it came out two years ago and this is probably your fiftieth time killing the skeleton king. That's the real magic of effective entertainment, executed so carefully, so precisely by the folks at Blizzard: familiarity that isn't stale." [Full review]

No Caption Provided

USGamer -- 5/5

"In many respects, D3 is unabashedly old-school, yet is imbued with enough modern niceties and oomph to compete with any contemporary game. Even though much of it feels straight out of the 90s, it's still thoroughly riveting. Whatever class you pick, and wherever you go, you'll have an endless parade of stuff to kill, and a variety of entertaining options to help you do the deed, whether you're casting crazy Witch Doctor swarms, or smashing through things with a Barbarian's heavy arsenal." [Full review]

Giant Bomb -- 4/5

"It's great with a group and fine if you're playing alone, but I'd still say that, if you're able, the PC version is the one to get unless you're specifically looking for a local co-op mode. Barring that, though, the console versions of Diablo III are well-built and adapted to a controller quite well, so at some point it becomes a matter of preference. If you're excited about the genre and love to smash enemies to watch a series of numbers go up as you collect better and better gear, this is a good way to fulfill those needs." [Full review]

The Escapist -- 4.5/5

"A fantastic dungeon-crawler that is still mercilessly addictive two years after the fact, Diablo III turns out to be a surprisingly good console fit. Most of the content will have been seen before if you have a prior version though, so don't feel pressured to rush out and get it." [Full review]

Official Xbox Magazine -- 8/10

"Ultimate Evil Edition is full of great ideas and wonderful refinements: it wants you to want to play it, and it makes itself as open as it can to doing so. For those that have played Diablo III to death and yearn to explore the fifth act, Ultimate Evil Edition is a no-brainer. The same unconditional recommendation applies to total newcomers, especially those with friends (or in a pinch, someone who will kindly press and hold the A button on a second controller from time to time). But if you're in the middle, a person with experience who's starting a new class, the early stages will be a cakewalk. Grind and bear it. Ride the hamster wheel. In the end, Diablo can take over your life. You don't even have to have a pre-existing tendency for dungeon crawlers to 'get' its appeal. Crank it up to the toughest setting you can and don't look back." [Full review]

I wish people on here could just write about how good the game is instead of going on and on about where graphics are slightly better on their screen, or that pc is better than consoles yawn.

I think Diablo 1 and 2 should be out for the consoles as downloadable games. That would be awesome!

<< LINK REMOVED >> After Diablo 2's release, there's very little reason to go back to part 1. But it should at least be available as a PS1 Classic or something. I'd welcome a re-release of Diablo 2 any day.

<< LINK REMOVED >> In all honesty, I haven't played Diablo 2, just the first one. My point is, why not allow players to go back to how it all began? Sure it might be a click-fest/button-masher now, but I still think it's good.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> I didn't mean to imply that you shouldn't be allowed to play part 1, just that in my opinion part 2 surpasses part 1 by such a large margin that it would feel archaic. But by all measures it should be available as a classic download.

I was a HUGE Diablo 2 player back in the day. Loved it. I never tried Diablo 3 when it first released. I no longer play games on pc because I don't care to, as my only computer is an ASUS 2-in-1. I'm thinking getting this for my PS4 is the right choice and it's exactly people like me that this is targeting, not the many people who already bought it for x360 or PS3.

you call this shit a ...game ? It's a hack@slash isometric outdated interface garbage. A total waste of resources and money. At least if they would have made it 3D, it had been something. Who plays this shit , eh ? Stupid kids, right.

isnt $40 kind of steep for an expansion for a console version of a game? even with the praised adventure mode, im finding it hard to swallow that this expansion for previous gen consoles is worth the price and im wondering why it isnt available as dlc instead of a stand alone game including the diablo 3 that i already own.

Diablo 2 was a 9 or 10.

Diablo 3 is a 6, at best.

The majority statement holds no merit or logical grounds in proving a point.

The majority lives in poverty

The majority is uneducated

The majority watches crap like Grey's Anatomy

Diablo2 will always be the better game when looking at what it offered compared to other games released in the same year. Path of Exiles is honestly almost a carbon copy at this point along with many other indie games.

The majority didn't like mainstream $60 games that pushed the technical envelope so now we are stuck in an age of indies.

<< LINK REMOVED >> online or split ? either case its more about how much time are you willing to put into it, if its just casual, it would say no its not worth it, but if you intend to beat the story many times and use the exclusive features then yeah it could get interesting. also if its online, make sure both of you are getting the game and are willing to put the time to play it and if its split like your friend needs to come to your place, better make sure it wont be a one time thing, another aspect could be is there anybody with whom you could possibly play.

If you're referring to the console version, then "the expansion" comes with the game and is available when you first play. However some parts of the expansion don't unlock until later. For instance, the extra act (act 5) isn't available until you beat act 4 (obviously). Also rifts aren't available until after you beat Act 5.
(unless they changed that from PC which I doubt they would)

I'm thinking it's not worth it since we would probably play through the main game once and then get caught up in all the huge games that are releasing over the next few months, lol! But it would be online play...not local.

Yeah...I'm not a hardcore PC gamer either. I prefer my PS4. However I love this game and wouldn't mind the console experience. I may splurge and get it. I just wish that it came out sooner instead of less than a month before Destiny comes out. It'll be hard to justify playing two different "loot-focused" games at once, even if they are in different genres.

I picked up a copy for the Xbox One and it's excellent. I really enjoyed the original on the 360 but this is even better with all the extra content and want-not. Started off with the Crusader class and I'm really digging it. Getting near the end of Act 1.

So, Dev's just need to release a shitty game and then add a few things that make it more tolerable to get high amazing high marks. RoS added more things but never fixed anything from what i recall. D3 is still pretty much the same except now it has a few other things, things that didn't have much creativity put to it.

A decade couldn't even cure D3.

RoS may not have fixed the loot problem itself, but they released a patch for everyone called loot 2.0 that fixed most of the problems, as well as the auction house shutting down. It may not have started the greatest, but the game is more than complete now and you're still complaining.

I'll pick it up when the price drops some. I'm not going to pay the $20 additional just to get a PS4 version, over the PS3 / 360 versions. There is nothing that justifies an extra $20..slightly upgraded graphics?....nah I'll wait.

Ultimate gimp version is more like it, I play on my PC at 4K resolution and I am allowed to use a controller and/or TV if I wish. Fools like to limit themselves I guess
.

edit: and dont give me this crap about how consoles are a BETTER deal, especially since everyone owns at least a crappy $600 pc and it costs less than $500 extra to make it High-End.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Once again, further proof that resolution means nothing. I have played PC games dating back to the commodore on 5 1/4 floppy disks. I played Diablo 1, 2, and 3 on a gaming PC (with high-end specs). However after playing Diablo 3 on a console, the experience in my opinion was simply better, regardless of the resolution. Because of this I did not get RoS on the PC and waited for console.

Simply put anyone who argues that resolution makes a game, i.e. PC games are always the best, are simply misinformed ignorant children. Step out of your comfort box and actually try consoles, try different consoles and you will find that while PC's offer some great gaming experiences they are far from the only way to truly enjoy a game.

@roxor3 @invizo

I was and still am extremely disappointed with my PS3 and X360, I'm even more disappointed that the longevity of these consoles almost killed our industry with stale content that looks the same between 2004-2011 (all games in this time period look identical to me).

As far as PC controllers go, get DS3 tool and a Dualshock4.

This game looked dated to me from the very first day during beta and its sad to see consoles released years later that cannot run the game properly due to the shortcuts the manufacturer took.

ROFL, so you use examples of games in 2011 that just started using DX10+ instead of other 2011 games that released on DX9? Killzone is optimized to take advantage of Sony's cell shader, so was the Last of Us, Skyrim took 5+ years to develop and came out in 2012 because Workshop came out then (pre-2012 skyrim sucks).

2011 games you could have used was Borderlands, Warhammer 40,000, Farcry 2(consoles only).

edit; Metro kills the Last of Us, both visually and in scope, and it released in 2011/2012 for PCs only using DX11+

First of all, I would have a problem with people who say that graphics are what make a game good. I agree with @roxor3 ...graphics aren't everything. However let's assume, for a minute, that graphics ARE all that matter...

2004-2011 is not a long time span for a generation of video games. Even if it were, you're crazy for thinking that games from each of these eras look the same.

2004:

Fable, Farcry, Killzone1, Red Dead Revolver, Star Wars: Battlefront (all great games in my opinion...but we are following your graphics comparison here)

2011:

Skyrim, Killzone3, Assassins Creed, Batman: Arkham City, Infamos2

THESE GAMES LOOKED THE SAME TO YOU??? If so, I'd say you need to upgrade your PC or get the next console.

Don't know of this helps anyone, but the PS4 iteration was a massive step up from the PS3... The content is awesome.

transferring characters couldn't be easier (do remember to log on to ps3 version and export character data BEFORE launching PS4 Version) the game will prompt you to search for data upon main menu...

Loading screens, most are gone, but when there is one, it's literally a matter of seconds...

The game itself seems to have a darker, less colorful, more evil feel (Givin your gamma and TV setting are set correct)

Loot system has been revamped for ease of use

The lighting effects and visuals make it more immersive

The Torment difficulty settings make a broader approach for a challenge (Ranging from: Normal, medium, hard, expert, master, Torment , 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and finally 6...

Way more monsters on screen at once, the PS4 system seems to do well keeping gameplay and fps up during complex battles.

Joining online games, or inviting friends is seemless, also the PS4 chat system is alot more friendly than its PS3 older brother....

Soo Far, I'm enjoying it more than I did on the PC years ago, and the PS3 within the last year.

Hands Down

I bought this game yesterday on Xbox One. I had D3 for Xbox 360 and I'l be the first to tell you there is more than just what these critics said. It feels like on the xbox one there are MORE enemies, bigger environments and its a lot harder. The loot 2.0 is awesome!! If you pick up a bunch of dropped goodies and your playing multiplayer, the goodies you pick up go to the player that can use them. This makes so much less clutter and the only weapons you get are the ones your character can use. The graphics are 10x better than what they were on 360, I've beaten this game 3x on 360 and plan to beat this one as well!! This game feels completely different than D3
