Double Agent outed for Wii launch

Ubisoft sending Sam Fisher to infiltrate Nintendo's next-gen console; details kept under tight security.

As one of the original members of the Wii bandwagon, French game developer/publisher Ubisoft has plenty invested in Nintendo's forthcoming console. A few months after the Wii's positive reception at this year's E3, Ubisoft announced that it had seven games scheduled for the Wii launch--a healthy number considering that game behemoth Electronic Arts led launch support for the Xbox 360 with five games.

Now it appears that Ubisoft is doing one better for the Wii launch. The company has revealed that a Wii version of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent, which was previously unannounced, will be available for the console's launch sometime this holiday season. The game is being developed at Ubisoft Montreal. Double Agent has also been confirmed for the Xbox 360, PC, Xbox, PlayStation 2, and GameCube.

The new espionage thriller is the fourth full console game in the Splinter Cell series and the first next-generation installment in the franchise. In Double Agent, hero Sam Fisher goes undercover and must balance objectives given to him by a terrorist organization and the National Security Administration. The game's storyline and ending will hinge on players' choices as they tackle missions all over the globe.

No specific details about the Wii version were mentioned, but in the past, Ubisoft has offered up exclusive content for each platform's edition of its Tom Clancy games. "The Splinter Cell franchise has always translated very well across multiple platforms, and we are confident that the Wii version will continue the tradition of maximizing the capabilities of each respective video game console platform," said Ubisoft vice president of marketing, Tony Key.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent for the Wii has not yet been rated or priced. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of the game on the Xbox 360.

sounds like theyre cheaping out on the nintendo port -- AGAIN. They did the exact same thign with all three splinter cell games on the gamecube: Dumbed-down ports that came out a month or more after the release of the other console's versions.

"No online component is planned for the Wii version. Downloadable content through Nintendo's WiConnect24 service is still up in the air. " -IGN.com It didn't say anything about multiplayer in the only article they had about the wii version of the game, and it said that WiiConnect24 may be used.

ssjtrunks6, there's a Pokemon game already announced lol. If you don't like it, don't get it. Simple as. But anyway, at first I was going to get a PS3 but all this news is making me very excited about the Wii. It looks so awesome. I'll hopefully get one this year and I'll probably wait 2 years before I get the PS3.

I think that Ubisoft's support for the Wii is great. It just goes to show that developers are treating the novel ideas as challenges rather than turnoffs. I'm sure that all that Ubisoft and other companies do will blow us away!

Actually, there may not be much, if any difference between the PC and 360 versions. Aygol, why are you crying about Ubi's support for the Wii? Are you gonna buy one? Either way, stop whining.

Okay Machineares, Nintendo has gone on record saying that most (if not all) of their first party games will have the option to run in 16x9 Widescreen format. The third party companies are warming up to this, as well. If you look at most of the shots of people playing the Wii at E3, the games are being played on *gasp* WIDESCREEN TV's, and quite a few of those are WIDER than 30". So, yeah, Nintendo DID plan that far ahead. There will be few, if any problems with calibration of the 'mote. If you'd take a look at the list of launch titles, you'd see that the console is, in fact, not just for kiddies and fanboys, as you so ignorantly put it. Far Cry? Splinter Cell? Red Steel? Blazing Angels? CoD3? Hardly. There's a couple of holes in your arguement. And no, most CRTs don't cost $500. Unless it's from Sony, any CRT comparable in size to your HDTV would not cost $500, but instead somewhere between $330-430. As you can see, it's quite a bit less.

First of all machineares- Nintendo Wii supports widescreen and progressive scan. Twilight Princess as well as others will support the aspect ratio for widescreen- look it up. Second, if you spent 500$ on an hdtv then you have a piece of sh*t and should be no point of referrence.

machineares: Who cares...people say that RE4 was possibly "POSSIBLY" the best looking of the last "LAST" generation. We all know the Xbox360 is capable of generating better graphics than RE4. It's just funny when RE4 was such a good looking game, it almost looks comparable to the Xbox360. It's just funny to see you Xbox fanboys freak out about that. All in all who cares anyway. If you know the 360 is better than be happy why must you prove your point. I like microsoft but I like Nintendo's games better. Plus those flat screen HD TV's look like crap with everything unless it's HD. My cable does, last gen systems do, even the DVD play looks a bit blurry on them. They're for HD that's why the game doesn't look so great on that TV along with everything else.

A few things to address: "we know re 4 looks almost as real as a 360 launch title like um lets see dead rising" Why does everyone keep referencing RE4 like its the best looking game ever created? It looked good, but comparing it to ANY 360 game besides something like Dynasty Warriors (which is a PS2 port, so understandable) is completely asanine. RE4 also looks pretty bad on a widescreen TV, if any of you have never used it, since they didn't actually implement a widescreen mode, it was just letterbox, the graphics get grainy when you're zoomed up a little closer to make it fit your screen. By the way for you who said widescreen TVs are too expensive, I got my 30" HDTV for 500 dollars, and most regular CRTs cost that much. Prices aren't as high as you'd like to believe to support your argument. "Ok, Machineares, how long has it been since your experience with motion-sensing technology? Are you referring to the POS controller for the PSX that housed motion-sensing equipment, or the controller that Microsoft had out sometime back? If that's what your talking about, I've got news for you, bro: those two pieces of junk couldn't wipe the Wii-mote's butt." It was actually about 2 months ago, there are new game and computer technologies using this same technology, there are game controllers and cameras for PC and also the G1 Light Gun that uses the exact same Wii technology without the gyro stuff, using a camera to track a moving remote and map those coordinates onto your TV screen to correspond. I was using on my HDTV and things would get uncalibrated or unaccurate within about a minute and really didn't work that well to begin with. Especially sorry for people like me with widescreen TVs, I'll bet money Wii will not work very well. Trying to map the oblong structure of the widescreen TV, things will get out of whack. I can't imagine Nintendo planning so far ahead for this since it doesn't even support HDTV and its so aimed for kids and fanboys who mostly use old regular definition televisions and would not have to worry about it.

That makes 8 launch titles from ubisoft. Is that a record for 3rd party support? Well I was going to buy the PS2 edition but I want to see how the controls will change, so I'll get the Wii edition.

Honestly, I do not get it. I have a xbox, a ps2, and the ds, and I am going to bye the wii. You do not have to be true to one company, there are great games for all of the consoles and if you are a true gamer you would like to play them all. And games are not about great graphics, I think my ds is the most fun, and I have spent hours in company with that little masterpiece.

Bring back the Sega Megadrive!!!!! lol I would happily fork out all of my money for an updated version of almost all the megadrive games back catalogue Think about it there was no such thing as realistic graphics back then but we still all loved the games, make them all 3D versions of what we used to play but without changing the original feel of them games and you really could be on a winner there lol Just wanted my two pennies worth lol

I never liked you until I saw red steel, but you never know what'll grab consumer interest..... In other words, red steel better make my jaw hit the floor.

kingadam20 "Mr Masterarchilles5: I understand how you feel you're angry. It's sad that even though Nintendo came in last it's the only one that wasn't a failure in terms of profit...ha irony it's a b*tch! I like the xbox mainly because...well I like Halo and other than that, you get maybe two more exclusive titles. I have an xbox so I don't know why you argue with me. I like some of the things xbox is doing. To me though the Xbox and 360 are both geared to the mindless rednecks that inhabit the United States. Mostly because most of their games are mindless first person shooters. Don't get me wrong I like FPS and all but da*n thats too much. They need some variety, which is exactly what Nintendo is trying to do. Lord even Sony has a better variety and I can't stand them. Also yes you may be getting great deals with these systems. You get an HD video game system that soon can be upgraded to have HD-DVD's. You get a high performance graphical powerhouse, you get good online gaming. To be honest I don't need all that crap to come home from work sit down and play a good ol' RPG or a simple game that I can relax too. To me so what what Sony and Xbox offer with their systems. If Nintendo didn't have any of that crap but had a ton of amazing killer exclusives, I'd rather pay more for that systems because it's about games. If I wanted to pay for that crap on a console I wouldn't have wasted my money on my PC. All I want are games so kiss my anus with your HD B.S.lol! Also I am expecting a response I get a kick out of them. There's so much more in this world to complain about...I just find it funny this is such a big deal to some people." Well Mr. kingadam20 I believe your response to my comment shows exactly how ignorant you really are. First of all, I must say that I would not normally lower myself to such a person's level but I am forced to set him straight. I therefore apolgize to any who might be offended by my views regarding Mr. kingadam20 opinion. I usually keep my views to myself in order to obviate upsetting others on the forums, since we all must share them but, I believe Mr kingadam20 wants to continue the arguement so I shall respond. Though the original Xbox lacked exclusives it did make up in 3rd party support an area the Gamecube was lacking in. Also many of the games were not only "mindless first person shooters". I would like to present such games as Knights of the Old Republic, KOTOR II, and Jade Empire. Many games that were available on the PS2 were also available on the Xbox, such as Psychonauts which was not avaliable on the Gamecube. In addition I do not believe the Xbox or Xbox 360 are "geared to the mindless rednecks that inhabit the United States". Being Hispanic it is almost impossible for me to have a redneck and I believe that comment to be utterly unappropriate. It is the players choice to choose what games they play on a system. Just because you bought a lot of FPS and did not like them does not mean that is all the system has to offer. I respect that you say that you don't need an online system or graphics. That is fine. I really could not care less. Also notice that did not mention HD in any of those comments. I do however have an HD TV, well to be correct, my father does being that I am 17. I do play my Xbox 360 on it and I believe it looks amazing. I myself do not like Mario games. I believe The Legend of Zelda is an incredible game that I would love to play. Metroid Prime I could do without but at the same time Super Smash Brothers has always been one of the best fighting games I have ever played. Again however I will stick to the Xbox 360 and PS3 just because I enjoy playing FPS which in my opinion are very tactical, fun and engrossing games as well as the occasional RPG ( Mass Effect: I can't wait). I shall repeat that this arguement was a complete waste of time but I felt the need to respond and end it once and for all. Thank you and have a good day.

When it comes to first person shooters, they are always identicle. Any PC, Xbox, PS2, 360, wii, or PS3 shooter is the same. Move your character around the world, point and shoot.

Now, on the ps2, ps3, xbox, gamecube, and 360 all of these FPS games would use one analog stick to move and one to point with a button for shoot... they are all the same! But on a PC you actually have to AIM. This may be a foreigh concept to console addicts but when you aim a mouse, your accuracy is easily 10x better than it would be with an analog stick.

The Wii happens to be the only console system that even comes close to the accuracy and speed of a mouse. I'd like to see any of you tell me that you could take down 5 targets faster in halo on xbox, than I could on the PC version. Analog stick is not point and shoot, Wii-mote and mouse are.

The way sony and microsoft are going, two more consoles down the road people will be sick of realistic FPS games that all play out the same way. The industry will go stale without new ideas, and who cares about the graphics not being 'top notch' by today's standards. New Super Mario is very fun, and the graphics on that are definately not Next-Gen.

You can't knock it until you try it first hand, and when you do, try to see past the graphics and enjoy yourself. Graphics are nice, but you will get bored of them very fast, where as a good solid gameplay method will entertain you for years to come.
