Anybody saying this is not worth the price or there is no reason to buy this did not watch the stream through a 4K HDR TV. I was in awe that I can finally play games that look like this only 5 months from now. It looks fantastic. This dethrones Sony as the best console for multi-plats. It also provides UHD disc playback and will have Dolby Atmos day one. On top of that some games I already got will be bumped to this resolution. It's the smallest Xbox available and won't be super loud like PS4 Pro. The only thing missing are new games and I'm sure there is a reason not one new game from MS studios was announced except the usual Forza sequel and the fantastic Ori 2. I'm guessing they are developing all the new games to be Xbox One X exclusive and will make the transition next year. If not, that's fine but we have no clue what Microsoft has in store for next year. They are playing it like Nintendo.

@expredator: Dude, don't give shit argument like that :/. I mean it hurts your credibility more than any thing really.

You and I both know Sony releases games similarly, right? Then why BS like that? Also, are you in Canada? Canadian price is 600, American is 500.

@ballashotcaller: the software announced was weak, though. good hardware does not sell consoles on its own. microsoft failed to understand such a simple concept. sea of thieves, crackdown etc look forgettable and downright embarrassing. the best games they showed were ori and cup head which can also be found on pc lol... ditto for most of the other "good" games they showed such as forza 7 (pc) and anthem (ps4). the x being $150 more than the pro won't help matters. the sales gap is going to worsen for microsoft as time goes on.

@trolleyproblem: true, but not by much. the average consumer is not going to be too concerned by minimal graphical improvements which leads me to believe pro sales will remain strong over the x.

@Xristophoros: Do you remember the discussion from back in 2014 about GTA 5 on ps4 having "denser greenery" over xbox one?

Discussions like that have always existed :/. Believe me, if 0.6TF difference could make or break a console, a difference 1.8TF would definitely have an impact in the eyes of beholder.

@trolleyproblem: only to the tech enthusiast crowd -- which are the vast minority. the 4k checkerboarding tech sony is using with the pro looks almost as good as native 4k, especially when sitting on the couch 5 or 6 feet away from the tv. digital foundry has done numerous comparisons on this subject. the average person who already owns a pro will be satisfied enough with that and won't feel the need to jump on the x. i don't see the x converting sony gamers to xbox gamers -- rather, it will mainly cater to those who are already in the xbox camp and only the most hardcore of tech enthusiasts at that. i predict reasonable sales at first but a sharp decline after the holiday season for the x.

@Xristophoros: I agree with you, but an average gamer relies on these websites, and if they see one console having an upper tech hand, it kinda works out. Plus, same way, if you got o a shop, how often do you see regular customer just go and say "Hey, which is better of the 2?" While checker boarding makes it almost as good, you and I both know it didn't work so well for MS last time with PS4 vs xbox

More often than not, the exclusives, while being great, do are not the major reason that people use to decide on a console. Us folks on these webpages do.

I am fairly certain that MS has run their numbers on potential sales as well, so they might be expecting something similar to this any way. Who knows?

All in all, they wanted to have the "upper hand" for when it comes down to debate between which console is better, and they have achieved it and at a decent price point to be frank with you.

@donjuancorleone: It isn't out until the end of the year, is it? They'll probably wait until October, then toss games at you. (Assuming they have any to toss.) That will give you plenty of time to get it on your Christmas wish list.

Well they gave me ZERO reasons to buy this absurdly priced system. Very happy to wait for PS5. I thought the PS4 pro was lame and the Xbox one x is the a more powerful version of it for 100 dollars more. Yikes.

@sodapoppimpski: I don't care about 4k - I don't even have a 4k tv so it would be $1000+ if I were to want to get full advantage of this thing. That's nuts. 4k isn't that big of a jump (sure it looks better, but it's not a 480p to 720p or even 1080p jump).

@trolleyproblem: I have to be in the majority who thinks the this is ridiculously priced given that all it does is make the games that you can play on your base model look and run better. 500 dollars to make current games prettier. AND you'd need a 4k tv to get full benefits. Most people don't have a 4k tv

@yangwenli1: While you are in the majority, most of you guys are thinking based on what you "want", and not what is "feasible". While I wished that the console was worth $400 dollars, it was my WISH.

Fact is, this console boasts not only good specs on the sheet, it has great cooling system and takes lesser space on my table. It is a premium product. For those that do not wish to have it, Xbox S and Ps4Pro are great alternatives. However, I am fairly certain that developers will utilize this console to develop better looking games, just like they did back when the debate of resolution gate was going on between ps4 and xbox.

Also, remember, Xbox barely has sold 30M units. PS is at 60M units. There is a potential market out there of those who deemed PS4 as superior alternative to Xbox due to its hardware specs. Whether you want to buy it or not, is your decision at the end of the day. However, "Xbox is not as powerful as PS4" is not going to be one the reason any more.

In addition, you are incorrectly assuming that it is 500 dollars for making current games prettier.

If it is a difference between Xbox consoles, it is what 250 dollars more expensive when compared to Xbox One S for a 4x more powerful console?

If it is a difference between PS vs Xbox, then it is a 100 dollars more expensive console that provides 40% additional resources to make games look prettier. Whether developers take advantage or not, the platform is now available and "Xbox is weak" argument ain't the truth any more.

Also, While 4k tvs are not the main stream, there are people who will buy it because it still makes their 1080p games look better than any other console on the market.

My 2 cents.

@trolleyproblem: I just see this console as so niche - it won't move the needle for Microsoft one iota. There's not a big market for this thing. And I'm right - just because it's 4x more powerful, this doesn't mean anything beyond what I said: making current gen games look and run better. That's it. If it was a next gen console where many exclusives were being developed only for the Xbox one x, then I could see why it could be a good move for Microsoft to jump to the next gen of consoles, but this isn't it. It's a premium version of the xbox one s...that's it. For 500 dollars. It won't sell that well. Just like the ps4 pro didn't sell incredibly well.

@yangwenli1: You are right, it is a niche product. Although, it gives MS a reason to boast. Since 2014, Xbox has always been considered an inferior product due to 1.8 vs 1.2TF argument. Then sony did a mid gen refresh with pro and jumped to a 4.2TF machine. Xbox kinda had to be refreshed and from what I can tell, this is MS's answer to xbox being called weak for 3 years straight. Whether people buy it or not, it doesn't matter.

Think about it. MS is a huge company and naturally, with that much success, comes an ego. If your ego is constantly hit by the other side, you have to expect some sort of retaliation.

Btw, what has this current gen achieved anyway? Half of the games seem like a "Remaster" of previous generations.

I do not see the whole point of next gen console when we have barely scratched the surface of what the current ones can do. Pro and X are what the best this gen can offer and i am fairly certain that developers can do alot within this gen alone.

Also, keep in mind that with new gen, comes newer and more expensive hardware. If Both XboxX and PRO are barely able to hit this price point while using only current gen tech, imagine what the new gen cost would be? Frankly, I do not think most of the gamers, who are currently crying about the console being 100 dollar more expensive, could afford it by the sound of it :).

@trolleyproblem: I agree, which is why I'm happy to wait 2-3 more years until the true next gen of consoles is released. What I really hope for next gen is a standard of 60fps for all games, and huge reductions in load times. I think the argument for most powerful system matters more for new generation of hardware because it's then that not many exclusives are there and it's mainly multiplatform games. We're long past that point this gen and Sony has built a far more diverse and quality library of games. I don't think more powerful means much by way of driving sales, but we shall see.

@yangwenli1: :P quality of library games is subjective at best my friend. I have ps4pro and I have no interest in almost any exclusives. I play multiplats mostly. I prefer them. Exclusives are done too quickly and I need my daily fix for a few hours, which exclusives can't provide...

I think 3 year mid gen refresh is not a bad idea though. Doesn't hurt for those who want one

@trolleyproblem: Interesting. So you don't care about bloodborne, persona 5, Uncharted/last of us, horizon zero dawn, etc? I love jrpgs and rpgs in general so maybe that's a big reason I'm a Sony fan. But I get you, third party games represent the vast majority of games, and that's a very good thing in my view.

@yangwenli1: I got horizon, I will get uncharted. I do not intend to get other games :) I do not play JRPGs.

Same way, I got GOW, and Halo. I do not play racers.

I get where you are coming from, but really, every one has their choice :) I just wanted to play 2 games so i got the console for those 2.

In the end, for me, it is about network. I like Xbox's network and their warranty services. Sony has put me down 1 too many times now with my laptop.

@yangwenli1: not a big step? That is literally the next step. Even if you don't have a 4k tv which plenty do, you still get super sampling, faster loads, better resolution and better fps on your 1080p.

@sodapoppimpski: I didnt say it was a step back lol I think 4k is an iterative step, not a leap, in other words. Meaning I can comfortably sit out 4k for another 2-3 years. It's just that I've seen 4k, I've played games at 4k, and I don't see it as a good value proposition as of now. Btw - 4k doesn't mean better frame rate. For more demanding games, it actually means lower frame rate because it's too demanding.

@yangwenli1: I didn't say 4k means better frame rate, I said the X will provide that for your 1080p setup. 4k isn't going anywhere in the next 2 to 3 years, 8k is the next step and that's at least 8 years away for affordability.

@sodapoppimpski: Actually once the optimization that the Xbox One X uses gets to the PC market I can see 8k in 5 years. PC hardware uses brute force as where the new xbox uses some force, and optimization to reach 4k now. Interesting stuff!

@sdecker425: I meant 8 years minimum for the affordability of TVs, but yes I can see PC's hitting 8k in 5 years with that optimization, but at a heavy price. Microsoft is a big component in developing said technology and API that will allow PC's to take that raw power and combine it with that optimization. I think people forget what Microsoft does for the whole gaming community to help keep it moving forward, they rather see them fail because of pettiness.

@sodapoppimpski: okay I misread what you said about fps for 1080. And if 4k isn't going anywhere anytime soon then by the time the ps5 comes out, 4k tvs will be dirt cheap and it'll make more sense for me to take the plunge. Until then, I'm fine with waiting. I'm not usually an early adapter for new tech. That's just me.

@trolleyproblem: I used to be a big xbox guy but since the mid point in the 360/ps3 era, sony has dominated when it comes to quality exclusives. I will always root for Xbox to return to its glory days but I don't see this happening after that conference.
