EA Access Now Available On Xbox One

Subscription program leaves beta and is now available to anyone.

No Caption Provided

EA Access, the "game-changing" subscription program from Mass Effect and Battlefield publisher Electronic Arts, is now available for anyone on Xbox One. The program began last month for a limited number of beta testers, but now anyone can try out the service.

An EA Access subscription is $5/month or $30/year and lets you play any game in "The Vault" for as long as your subscription is active. You also get a 10 percent discount on EA digital games and content, as well as access to upcoming games five days before they are released.

The first four games confirmed for The Vault are FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4. More will be added in the future, and might includes titles like EA Sports UFC, Need for Speed Rivals, and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, if box art featured on the EA Access website is anything to go on. Last week, EA COO Peter Moore promised that the company will not remove games from The Vault.

As for games you can play early, these begin with Madden NFL 15, FIFA 15, NHL 15, and Dragon Age: Inquisition later this fall. Early access for upcoming EA games will vary by game. For some games, you'll be able to play one mode for a limited time, while other games will allow you to play a full version for a limited time. In all cases, if you decide to buy the game when it is released, your progress will be saved, allowing you to pick up where you left off.

As for why EA Access is only available on Xbox One and not PlayStation 4, Sony said last week that it did not think the service offered the kind of value PlayStation fans have come to expect.

So I got it for a month and guess what? The gaming market hasn't toppled, people haven't rioted, and the world hasn't blown up. Yet. Anyways, I'm waiting for the games to download and so far so good. I figure if it's that bad then I just cancel and I'm out $5. No harm no foul.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I really don't see what's so bad about digital. So no more damaged/scratched discs, no more getting up when you want to play a new game, more room on the bookshelf. People hate it, but steams been doing it for a long time and it's a huge success. I never trade my games in anyway, and while I like looking at a massive collection of games on the shelf like everyone else, I find scrolling through a ton of games on "my games and apps" is just as satisifying.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> yes but steam is free online play is free. not money on a timer. yes you have to buy the games, and some games have a sub, but they are dirt cheap when on sale.

what consoles are doing is just milking people with have to have internet have to have XB gold have to have EA access, or in the case of playstation have to have plus have to have now ( i know you don't "have to have it now" but it will change ) so how long till every game pub is on board with this and a hobby that we all love is subject to if you are paid up and not oh i own this and can play when ever i want.

also i have never scratched a game ever, if you have then you don't take care of your stuff

and if people are so lazy they can't put a disk in the system then just role over and die now life is to hard for you

@rasterror that ea and ms are trying to get a strangle hold on the digital console market to kill used games and to do that they have to kill hardcopies. this is the first step in the insidious plan by MS and EA to get the policies that had to be scraped back in action. they never gave up on them, just realized it has to be done in small unnoticed steps. so that by the time we do see what has happened its to late .

i don't buy used games because i want the pubs and dev to get some of the money for the game they made, but i still want ownership of the game i buy. so that they can't just take it from me like a policed state if i don't agree to the terms. please don't call me a tin hat person

Insidious plan by Microsoft and EA? So what do you think Sony and multiple publishers are doing with Playstation Now? Not only are they trying to destroy game resales bu[ they're trying to wring every dollar out of consumers. What company or business would think it's good to rent something to someone for a short period of time for twice the price of buying it out right?

If this service was offered without data collection, without online requirements, with guarantee of ownership per account, with a better selection of games, with better selection of games, without having to have the EA app on the console, different payment options, and without the history of Origin behind it then maybe it might be a sound investment - but there are just two many maybes to risk.

Many of these games you can buy off of Amazon, play and then give away, trade in or just resale back on amazon/ebay at a much better value then EA's access program.

I would not purchase this service as I have no interest in the titles offered but Sony should open the doors and let us choose. I personally agree that the value isn't really there but that's for the consumer to decide based on their individual preferences. I'm a PS fanboy but not one who will defend their every move.

From what I gather from the comments section is that people that haven't tried it or have intention of trying it already how it functions and that it sucks. Seems legit.

Do not download or stream music people. This will be the destruction of the music industry. Continue to buy cds or records. Your voice must be heard. ohhh wait....This is 2014. Nevermind. Wrong article.

That's it! keep encouraging the entertainment industry to implement cloud services. Let them snatch away your right to ownership. You can download paid for digital right now. But in the near future?

most people don't have these 4 games, so it's a nice deal for them regardless…

and for the average X1 user, they all probably have Titanfall by now, so they will probably add it much later on, when new X1 owners come around….

if you don't like it, then don't use it. simple. companies listen when money talks.

personally, i'm not having a rage stroke just because some of us now have the option to pay 30 bucks to play several games that we probably won't still be playing 12 months later...as opposed to buying used games for 20-30 bucks a piece, and watching their resale value deteriorate a little further every month.

doubt it. if this service is successful, that really just means more gamers like it than hate it. we could complain about all the issues we wanted to, but it wouldn't change the fact.

like i said, EA isn't a monopoly. if you don't like something they do, hit em in the wallet. your life won't end if you lose a demo.

I'm excited about this service, but there's not enough games in the service right now that I don't already own. Once they add some more games to the service I am probably going to be in. And hopefully they add some older games as well, such as the Dead Space games, I never have bought any of those. And I think EA has the Army of Two games as well, it would be good to see some of those.
