EA Promises Not to Remove Games From EA Access' Free Games Vault

Peter Moore says the Vault will offer triple-A games and pledges not to remove games that have been added to it.

Once something has been added to the library of games that EA Access subscribers can freely play, the company will not remove it, according to Electronic Arts COO Peter Moore.

Speaking with CVG, Moore made it clear that Access members won't find themselves suddenly unable to continue playing a game because it's been removed from the "Vault" of free games. "I think one of the key things is that once a game goes into the Vault it stays there, it's not going to be taken out, that's a commitment we've made," he said.

The first batch of games to be added to the Vault are FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4. For $5 per month (or $30 per year), members can play these games as much as they want on Xbox One. In addition, they'll receive other benefits like early access to upcoming games and discounts on DLC.

"We have to make decisions along that way, so there's no template, like 30 days after a game ships it goes into the Vault" -- Peter Moore

"The Vault will be substantial," according to Moore, who said more games--including triple-A games--will be added over time. However, new additions won't come on a set schedule--EA will decide when to add games individually. "New game additions will be determined by franchise and timing," Moore explained. "We have to make decisions along that way, so there's no template, like 30 days after a game ships it goes into the Vault."

In other words, Access members won't be able to avoid buying a new EA game because they know it will be added to the Vault after a certain amount of time.

It's worth noting that the terms of service listed on the EA Access website provide EA with the right to remove games from the Vault. From a legal standpoint, it would be surprising if that were not included in the TOS, and this doesn't necessarily signal an intent to remove games. Should a game ever be removed for some reason (or online services for a Vault game be shut down), EA will make an announcement 30 days in advance.

At least for the time being, EA Access will only be available on Xbox One. Sony has said it turned down the opportunity to offer it on PlayStation platforms because "it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect." That point has come under fire in light of the pricing on certain rentals through Sony's new PlayStation Now streaming service, which recently entered open beta. Moore was asked about Sony's stance, but he was hesitant to say much. "It's tough for me to comment on Sony's comments," he said. "I think they made themselves pretty clear."

EA Access is currently available in beta, with a wider launch coming sometime "soon."

When it has more titles, it may actually have some value.

<< LINK REMOVED >> It has high value as it stands. Even if you rented for 1 month ($5) and got to play all those games, that's a huge value. Especially considering that rental places will charge at least $7 to $10 per week to rent a game. And if you use Gamefly, good luck getting a popular game that is remotely new.

However, I would only rent it a month or two as it stands, it needs way more games to get me to pay for more months of service.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Did you just end a comment, lamenting haters with "SMH"? That's so much hate, hater.

Seriously, people have opinions. Some of them negative, some of them positive. As a cynic, I find people who can only handle fluffy bunny positive comments more annoying than the haters.

You want this, don't you? The hate is swelling in you now. Take your EA weapon. Use it. I am unarmed. Strike me down with it. Give in to your anger. With each passing moment you make yourself more my servant.

<< LINK REMOVED >> IKR? 30 dollars to have access to games I have on hard copy currently and can trade in and still get money back and go home and get the exact game back for free, yea thats a bad deal. And to know that they will not remove games once in the VAULT, sold the deal even though they already enslaved me with the offering. lol

Its only $30 per year. That is chump change. If you cant afford it don't sign up for the service and quit complaining. I could skip out on going to the bar one night and that would pay for 3 years of service.

At least at the bar you get some booze and maybe some hot date with questionable morals. With EA, you'll most likely get robbed in the middle of Times Square, and no one will give a damn because DUH!

What is beyond me - if this is such a great opportunity, why isn't there a EA access for PC where they can do what ever they like? No need for Sony/M$ persmission

Even though EA has a extensive history of bold faced lies, I'm sure this will remain true......technically. There are a thousand ways to put in catches, especially including DLC, premium, and of course raising the price of the service.

If you think this deal has no catch, I have some magic beans to sell you.

That should be the least problem. There's a bigger catch than that. Like for example not keeping a promise.

"Oh, but we're not going to pay anymore if they do that."

Well, one, it'll be too late anyway, and two, yes you will.

He said Sony made them selves clear. Sounds like Sony got tired of ea and all of their exclusive deals with ms. Ea has realized the install base difference between platforms and trying to sneak back in now, lmao

<< LINK REMOVED >> To me, it sounds like he will not let himself get baited into a question that may harm business opportunities. Sony's comments where straight forward. There is no sense in a EA trying to get into a pissing match with the Sony.

If the writer wants to know about Sony's comments further they should ask Sony execs.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I swear some people are utterly blind, EA only games can not compete with PS Now which gives you a lot of publishers games not just EA. Why don't you use your brain before spewing such misleading nonsense or at least explain your position. Right now you have a claim which I refuted easily without much preparation at all. This is how you raise an argument and subsequently defeat it.

Sony more or less don't want a separate store for a publisher within their ecosystem that is already under license, either put your stuff in the shop we already have or no deal. This is business, they don't have to allow things that would devalue their offers. EA needs Sony and MS, can you imagine if EA only had MS, they'd lose a massive fanbase. Check out how they are quite keen on their recent expenditure on Titanfall exclusivity didn't pan out, EA likes multi-platform as it brings in the cash because of the wider fanbase so unless this brings in massive dollars don't go believing any of that, we won't remove games shtick. The instant it's bleeding dollars it will change as they reserve the right to remain competitive and profitable.. Zoom!

<< LINK REMOVED >> We're talking several games though. This would be more logical for 1 or 2 games, but for many games the value can add up. Not to mention the 10% discount on new games and early access demos, if that is something you are interested in.

@StHapns247 @Dcyple3000 The 10% discount is nothing to cry home about. Most retail stores offer better discounts. The majority of games that are added to the vault are games where EA is no longer making money from. The vault is like their bargain bin. Chances are pretty high that most subscribers will not have the free time to play all these games, so they will end up sticking to one or two. By then, these games will be selling at a discount at retail stores.

Let's be honest, this is a typical EA money grab. Just another way of making money from nothing.
