Evolve Announcement Might Be Coming Soon [Update]

"What are you hoping to see?"

Update: Evolve is no longer available for sale through Steam. This might be an error, or it could be an indication that the game is perhaps going free-to-play. We'll keep an eye on the situation and report back with any further developments as the countdown approaches zero.

Original Story: The website for monster-hunting game Evolve has been updated with a countdown clock that suggests some kind of reveal will take place this week. In addition to the countdown clock, there is the hashtag #StageUp, but it's unclear what that means.

Developer Turtle Rock also retweeted a tweet from Twitch streamer Robert Paz that mentioned the countdown clock (via Game Informer). What connection he may have to the game or this announcement is unknown.

Evolve launched in February 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It has shipped more than 2.5 million copies and is now described by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick as a "permanent" and "long-term" franchise. Others series that Zelnick has previously referred to as "permanent" include heavyweights like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, BioShock, Civilization, and Borderlands.

If there is a sequel to Evolve in the works, it might not be as multiplayer-centric as the first game, Zelnick previously teased. Take-Two paid nearly $11 million to buy the Evolve franchise from THQ during its bankruptcy auction.

Turtle Rock, which also created the Left 4 Dead series, is now hiring for an unannounced new IP that is described as "cutting edge" that features "unique and stunning characters." Nothing at all has tied the countdown clock to this game.

We'll keep our eye on the countdown clock and let you know what the reveal is later this week.

@uninspiredcup: Nothing that has been said hints at a new Hunting Season. What we do have coming is more FREE characters to play; the Devs started creating adaptations of Hunters and Monsters with new abilities and looks. There are still quite a few more coming, and like I said, they're free.

@7tizz: Why would a game need 2 season passes ?

I'm already trying to wrap my head around why it would even need 1 :/

This game was so over hyped by gamespot and IGN they acted like they had found the holy grail while ignoring the problems such as no campaign, all the dlc and only 4 monsters. While other better games such as alien isolation get slated.

@gamingdevil800: A lot of games get over-hyped in gaming media, and not always for good reason.

But that's how it works.

Stay tuned for ten new Fallout 4 articles, that's your favorite game right? . . Right. . .

@gamingdevil800: True, there are some serious problems with gaming reviews. And true, Alien Isolation is a way better game than some really high scoring games on this site.

I think Angry Joe worded it perfectly, when he talked about all the big sites giving it lauding scores. But I think there are a few things that came into play:

- Review and Preview events: very, very controlled environments where in the reviewers got to play the game and they genuinly had fun... Meanwhile players got to play in real life environments, getting teamed up against unbalanced players and having less fun.

- Reviews were not affected by the asking price. This game came with a full price, 2 season passes and even more microtransactions... Reviewers got to play this game and all of its content for 0 dollars 0 cents. They never factored in the asking price, while gamers did.

If they're making a 2nd one hopefully this one won't be dead within a month. You could see how well this game was going to perform from a mile away. Who knew that if you make "DLC: The Game" that people won't buy it? Weird.

I think it is a super good concept and game... but the marketing and "micro"-transactions... killed the game.... never got it play it... and wont until its going to be "free"

@joey96: I see it as the problem with the game was not the micro-transactions themselves, but the pricing of it. Had they been 33-50% cheaper it would have been a more attractive setup and probably more lucrative. Yes you'd still have the loud mouths proclaiming all DLC is bad, but a proper pricing model would counteract that with the sensible customers.

The problem with the console games is that they forgot the "micro" part of micro-transactions when they copied it from mobile systems where it was effective.

The hype this game had and just after a few weeks the decline in the player base was astonishing.

Thought about buying Evolve on the Xbox sale, but I've heard a lot that not many people are still playing.

@Reagan2791: 90% of the time you run around trying to find the monster. 10% is fighting it. Understandably, many found this to be boring. The crappy marketing of the game that saw fit to announce DLC before the game did not help.

@7tizz: It was an exaggeration, a figure of speech to explain the general direction of the gameplay, not an assumption.

If you liked Evolve, check out Dead by Daylight on Steam. Similar concept, very straightforward to learn and fun to play.
