Gal Gadot Says Cleopatra Movie Is A Story "The World Needs To Hear"

"We're going to show not just how sexy and appealing she was, but how strategic and smart, and how much impact she had..."

Wonder Woman's Gal Gadot is playing Cleopatra in a new movie, and now she has shared some additional insight into what to expect from the film. Speaking to InStyle, Gadot said the movie will show how "sexy and appealing" Cleopatra was, as well as how smart she was. It's a story that the world "needs to hear now," Gadot said.

"I can't reveal a lot, but I can tell you that we're going to celebrate the Cleopatra story. We're going to show not just how sexy and appealing she was, but how strategic and smart, and how much impact she had and still has on the world we're living in today," Gadot said. "I've watched all the Cleopatra movies throughout history, but I feel like we're telling the story the world needs to hear now."

The Cleopatra film was originally going to be directed by Patty Jenkins, who directed Gadot in the Wonder Woman films. However, Jenkins dropped out, and now The Falcon and the Winter Soldier director Kari Skogland is directing.

This won't be the first biographical movie about Cleopatra, as Elizabeth Taylor portrayed the historical figure in the 1963 movie Cleopatra that won four Oscars.

In addition to the Cleopatra film, Gadot is lined up to play Wonder Woman again in a third film from Jenkins, who is also directing a Star Wars movie.

I always take advice from actors who grow in a disconnected reality and dysfunctional lifestyle.

I have no problems with a historical story being told as long as they tell the whole story. Also I have no issues in general with people playing historical figures but and I mean but " they needed to pick an actual Egyptian to play this role". I like this woman in other films but not in this role not the role for her man it's just not.

@ceelogreen94: You must have skipped the part in history class where Cleopatra was a Ptolemy, who were Greek... But hey why let history get in the way of woke anger?

@bigbeanie: I don't need to defend history, or my ethics, when I was talking about THIS movie. In this movie it's not whitewashing because her family was GREEK. At most, she probably had olive skin, so Gal will work perfectly. Read some history.

Cleopatra was the usurper sister of a false pharaoh who ran Egypt into the ground. She eventually sold her people out to Rome, earning herself the nickname "Caesar's Whore."

You want to learn about a female Pharaoh who was actually a great ruler? Look up Hatshepsut. She was the real deal, not some Ptolemaic wench remembered fondly by the CONQUERORS whose Emperor banged her so good that she gave him her nation.

@bluestorm83: It's not really about who made the best ruler; it's about who makes the best story. And Cleopatra, pound-for-pound, is about as dramatic a figure as history has every produced.

@operatorzero: Also, it isn't just about great story telling, the sheer will and boldness Cleopatra and her family and the political maneuvering of the times was amazing as a tale, in of itself.

This film is a terrible idea. If you really want to learn about Cleopatra, there are a lot of great books out there. Blockbuster 'historical' cg movies are the worst.

Producer 1: We could make a new take on Cleopatra. With a woke twist, of course.

Producer 2: I not sure about the woke part but new takes are tight! So... is it gonna be a remake of that old Elizabeth Taylor movie?

Producer 1: What? No. Turns out Cleopatra was a real historic figure, I found this weird thing made of paper called "history book" and it tells it all about it.

Producer 2: But... history is kinda boring, do you think people is gonna watch it?

Producer 1:It's gonna be super easy, barely an inconvenience. We'll just put some over-the-top, heavily choregraphed, barely accurate battle scenes full of CGI warriors, people love that stuff!

@millionsedge: It's starved for it. Women are second class citizens and have no voice and everyone walks over them. They're helpless and have no role models. This one movie will single-handedly turn things around for them and they will build statutes of Gal Gadot.

@ives74: It's always been fine. Unless you mean to tell the world only Jews can wear denim because it was invented by a jewish guy.

But in this case, I am curious... What's cultural appropriation have to do with Gal Gadot playing Cleopatra?

@ceelogreen94: Cleopatra is from Macedonia, which at the time was part of Greece.

Her family emigrated from Macedonia to Egypt. Gal Gadot looks more like a greek person than a typical Egyptian.

Regardless, we're back to this cultural appropriation BS... So to be authentic, they need to find a Macedonian that lives in Egypt. Good luck with that.

@wackiewackie: You sir are an idiot.

If you knew anything about the whole history of Cleopatra, was the rise of her family in taking over Egypt, well the entire areas of what we call Egypt ... .........While Cleopatra was born in Egypt, she traced her family origins to Macedonian Greece and Ptolemy I Soter, one of Alexander the Great's generals.......

Bold, wreckless, brilliant political maneuvering, barely scratches the description of their time.

...They spoke Greek and governed Egyptas Hellenistic Greek monarchs, refusing to learn the native Egyptian language....

Imagine if it happened now, or if say Mexico political family took over Canada and refused to speak their language. Any way pick up a book and turn off facebook for a little.

@jenovaschilld: I think most Egyptians spoke variations of Coptic, not the older Demotic, by the time Rome ruled. It was a shared language; after all, Ptolemaic Egypt was about three hundred years old by the time Rome ruled.

Even so, rulers not speaking a conquered language is nothing new. Normans spoke French, not Anglo-Saxon Germanic, and Americans didn't know **** about Arabic when they went into Iraq (this one I know from personal experience.)

@jerjef: Technically, both historic Egyptians and Israelites fell under a common linguistic heritage know as "Semetic-Akkadian". An Israeli actor has as much right to play a classical Egyptian as an Arab actor does.

@santinegrete: cmon, if this was about white man playing some unappropriate role you would be defending his right to play him to no end.

theres nothing as annoying as when cancelhaters want to get something cancelled because of "hypocrisy". either defend everyones right to play all roles or do the opposite. by cherrypicking cancellations you are just encouraging all cancel culture
