Gearbox wants Borderlands 2 on PS Vita

CEO Randy Pitchford excited about potential for cross-platform play in new shooter, willing to allow outside studio to build portable version.

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford is eager for an outside company to create a PlayStation Vita version of the upcoming shooter Borderlands 2. Speaking at PC and indie game event Rezzed today (attended by Eurogamer), Pitchford explained that he is excited over the potential for cross-platform play with the PlayStation 3 version.

Pitchford has made a pitch for Borderlands 2 on the PS Vita.

"One of the things I wish Sony would do is get behind Borderlands, because I'd love to see a Vita version of the game," he said. "I want to be able to have the character I'm working on with my PS3, and then when I'm on the road with my Vita I can just keep developing that same character because it exists on the cloud somewhere."

Pitchford explained that Gearbox itself is too busy to create Borderlands 2 for the PS Vita, but he said the company is willing to have an outside studio work on it.

"I know there are a lot of talented developers who could take our code, our source, and our content and perhaps create something like that," he said. "That would be exciting to me."

Borderlands 2 is the sequel to 2009's lauded loot-driven shooter. It is due out for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on September 18 in North America, with an international release following on September 21.

I want to be able to take A LOT more PS3 games cross platform....if I am not home I want to take my game with me. I do not want another version to buy. I done bought it once......come on Sony, we all know you can do it. NOW DO IT!!!!

Definitely getting it if they make it for the PS Vita. I will actually get two copies one for ps3 and the other for ps vita if it is neccesary to have both.

This is what we need from our big developers for a the PS Vita. The Ps Vita could easily be the greatest handheld of all time if they make more games like this. They are off to a good start with Assassins Creed Liberation, Bioshock, and Call of Duty: Declassified. Keep them coming!

Thats what cross play is.... You upload at a save point to the cloud from one system then load from cloud on the other

@TheodenofRohan Dude, did you not read ANY of the above post I wrote? Perhaps you should. I am not debating the quality of the image, nor in any way did I mention it. My comment was strictly to do with the size of the image. You fan boys need to calm down. Besides, like I said in an above post (Which, clearly, you did not read.), my comment was more tongue in cheek than anything else. So again, calm down, and go enjoy your VITA.

Sadly this comment is now irrelevent. ANY Vita owner and I Mean ANY will tell you the screen isnt gawdy quality as the PSP was, it is a LCD screen that projects HIGH quality images in bright vibrant fashion sorry to break it to ya. Try it at a local gameStop next time prior to making assumptions on the quality of Vita. Furthermore US players who enjoy good games on the GO would love to see this happen especially if it becomes cross play we dont have shallow yet immature thoughts such as "

@CptRexKramer Everyone does not have tv that big. And it is not the size that matters it is the game. I played the new RE game on the 3ds and it felt just as epic as RE5. Cross play does not interest me but it can help the vita until people start making more unique versions or plain original versions of games. Hopefully by next year there will be a games that make me want a vita.

Omg if they release borderlands 2 for ps vita, I wouldn't put the thing down. Borderlands 1 is one of my fav games out there. And with borderlands 2 fixing the small issues that was in the first, It would be an amazing title to have on the vita. Even though I'm getting a Pc copy of this game, I would still get a ps Vita copy too if it got released on it.

That would be a vita seller. Sony should think about that. I know a bunch of my friends would buy a Vita and borderlands 2. I know I would absolutely love to have cross-play for the game.
