Geometry Wars: Galaxies blasting off

Xbox Live monster hit Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved getting a sequel on Wii and DS.

As it turns out, rumours of the existence of Geometry Wars: Galaxies for the Wii and Nintendo DS were not greatly exaggerated. The simple, addictive shoot-'em-up game will indeed be coming later this year to the Nintendo platforms, developed by UK-based Kuju Entertainment's Surrey studio and Bizarre Creations.

The game will be a follow-up to Bizarre Creations' Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved, which was released on Xbox Live Arcade in 2005 and has since been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times. Geometry Wars: Galaxies will be the first in the series to feature a variety of multiplayer modes--namely hot seat, co-op, simultaneous, and versus.

The game will also have a number of new features, including using the DS touch screen and Wii Remote to execute "hotshot" moves, a fresh mission-based campaign, and new battle grids.

Geometry Wars: Galaxies' producer Roger Carpenter commented, "The ship has become a bit of an icon, so that's going to stay as is. Everything else is getting a bit of a shake-up; familiar foes will endure, but there'll be new enemies, weapons, and a healthy number of totally new 'things,' too."

The game, which will be published by Sierra, will also include the full version of the previous title, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. It is expected to be ready for release for this year's holiday season.

For more on Geometry Wars: Galaxies, please read GameSpot's full interview with producer Roger Carpenter.

I'm surprised the game worked out in the first place, but I guess it made it because it is original, and if you get to know it., addictive. The company probably thought it should spread it's success to the Wii and DS.Overall, minor news to the majority who haven't played it.Back to Gear of War.

One more reason to love my Wii and one less reason to get a Xbox 360, too bad Wii wont get ports of GOW and Halo 3...but, you never know. They used to say Sonic would never be on a Nintendo console...

They're releasing this news now? Dosen't Gamespot have a subscription to Nintendo Power? They should.

Yea Geo Wars is an awesome game. For something so simple i've spend many hours playing it. Like the ultimate stress reliever, and its totally fun and looks mad cool.

I don't have an Xbox360, but I've heard nothing but great things about this game. I will be looking forward to picking it up.

It better have a lot more content than the XBL one. I mean sure Geometry Wars is fun, it's great but I'm not sure I'm going to go drop $30 just to play a game that I have played on my 360 already.. for cheaper.

This game's a natural with the 360's dual sticks and is still one of my favorites. It will be frustrating indeed on either the Wii or DS. I'll stick with the 360 version and hopefully a follow up.

Campaign =/= story. More likely they'll just put out crazy missions in a series of levels, similar to Chu-Chu Rocket's puzzle mode.

Yes! Portable Geometry Wars... plus the new "galaxies" campaign mode... my DS is going to be a happy camper. I'm curious about the campaign mode... what storyline could Geometry Wars have? "One man... one ship.... one kid who really hates math... an evil math teacher wizard....*wooosh*... coming in Winter 2007... *boom* Geometry Wars: Galaxies.... rated E for everyone"

So it's done astronomically well on Xbox 360, so the Xbox 360 isn't mentioned for the sequel? I'm with TheXboxgamer73 on this one... total jip!

So the proud supporters of Xbox 360 and Geometry Wars on Xbox Live Arcade are rewarded by getting a sequel on 2 systems that arent Xbox 360? What kind of jip is that?!

That was Tank Wars, but I was always confused by the name, Geometry Wars. What on earth does this game have to do with Geometry??

I'll be glad to finally get a chance to play GW. Plus, Kuju is the studio behind the highly underrated Battalion Wars for Gamecube, so them teaming up with Bizarre Creations sounds like a good match.

This is great! With a full retail release, Bizzare Creations is set to give Geometry Wars the respect it deserves. With the right promotion, this could become the next Tetris.

its seems odd that Microsoft would let a surprise cash cow into the enemy's hands. First the mobile version is published by Sony, and now they let it on the Wii and DS, it just seems odd that MS isnt restraining Bizarre, which has always been like a second party developer for microsoft
