Killzone 4 is in development at Guerrilla Games and will launch in 2013 on the PlayStation 4, an unnamed industry source has told Videogamer.

The game could be revealed as early as later this month during Sony's PlayStation Meeting event in New York City, where the PS4 itself is rumored to be revealed.

The latest Killzone title was Killzone: Mercenary, which shipped in September for the PlayStation Vita. The most recent core entry in the series was Killzone 3, which Guerrilla Games developed for the PlayStation 3 and launched in February 2011.

Guerrilla Games has long been rumored to be at work on Killzone 4. A report from November 2011 said Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 senior producer Steven Ter Heide will serve as game director on the new title. It is not clear if this is still the case.

The Dutch developer was not immediately available for comment.

sony needs to put killzone to bed for awhile . tey keep getting worse and worse each time out. same way with uncharted, res, rachet and lank twisted metal and other milked to death sony first party games

@thequickshooter No used games does not mean what you assume.

Buy a used game today, and you have most likely an online code to pay for access. This will be the same for this new console, except you will need to pay that access fee just to play, not for solely online or DLC. And if you rent, there will be a day pass, week pass, month pass.. etc.

screw games with online passes (hell, even AC3 sucked ass in the MP)

i mean if you can't play the campaign to see if you like a game that auto-turn off

cause you know, i could have bought the Mass Effect 2 in 2010 but i didn't really wanted to spend much on a game that i might not like

and then i rented it, i didn't care much for the cerbersus DLC but the PS3 version got free DLC included so **** it

after i finished it, i said to myself,

DAMN this game is fucking awesome

and then i bought ME1 for xbox 360 and completed the game entirely and bought ME2 for xbox 360 so i can use the same save

and ME3 sucked balls in the end, but it was a fun experince

all thanks to video game rental services

if there isn't any rental service for PS4 or XBOX 720 then screw it

i'll keep play my old stuff until i'll decide to get a steam box

cause steam doesn't support used games, but offers some killer sales

in the end both sony and microsoft will lose my money and loylty

@megadeth1117 Alittle more depth to the characters and story would be nice, but I also wouldn't want it to take the stage over the awesome gameplay. The cover/peek system in KZ makes it unique and fun/realistic to me, then you add those graphics...... I'm sold.

Never been a big fan of the story of killzone but you can't deny it's technical aspect. Amazing visuals. As such... that makes me very excited to see a next gen version.

Damn, this is the only game that makes me wish I had a PS3. Absolutely loved the first Killzone and I regret not playing the sequels, maybe in the future I'll catch up and play them all. Still, I can't wait to see what Killzone 4 is gonna look like on a PS4.

Haven't seen you on Fuse in a long time...and getting back to the topic, yeah, its a mighty fine way to demonstrate what the next PS hardware is capable of. Santa Monica, Guerilla and Naughty Dog are the best devs Sony has (apart from Japan Studio).

@Mutante_666 I have 2 Vita's and I wish that Mercenary had already been released. I am sure that Sony does too. I am sure a lot more Vita's would have sold and the Vita would have an actual FPS, instead of the rubbish that was developed by N-stigate.

Killzone 4 for the Playstation 4. This would be a great launch title. PSvita's Killzone is not released yet. Killzone Mercenary. Maybe they meant Killzone liberation for the PSP? Still if they can have Killzone 4 ready for the PS4 launch and without any delays that that would be helpful

and this is a chance for them to really show that PS can have a rival to HALO.

Was expecting this. I am a crazy Killzone fan. I was disappointed with Killzone 3 tho. Let's just hope Killzone 4 takes us back to the spirit of Killzone 2.
