(Last Chance) Claim The August 2020 Free PS Plus Games Before They're Gone

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered and a new multiplayer game are free for PlayStation Plus subscribers this month.

This month's PlayStation Plus games are nearly gone, but PS Plus members still have some time to get them for free. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered was technically available near the end of July, but now you can also pick up Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, a new online multiplayer game that made its debut recently. Both PS4 games are free until the next slate of PS Plus games arrive in September. One of these has become a meme at this point, so you won't want to miss out. You may find yourself playing it for hours on end in an attempt to be the last Guy standing.

Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, as the name suggests, is a re-release of the single-player campaign of the 2009 Infinity Ward hit. It just launched in March and marks the second time in the past few months that a Call of Duty game is being added to the PlayStation Plus program; Call of Duty: WWII was free in June. It also happened to be added to the program before its month officially began. Though it's disappointing the remaster didn't include the game's excellent multiplayer suite, Modern Warfare 2 has one of the best campaigns in the series, and it looks great on PS4.

The game pits you and up to 59 other players against each other in one of the sillier and lighthearted battle royales thus far. You play as funny little creatures who have terrible balance. Fall Guys is bright, colorful, and packed with chaotic action. Each match features a variety of challenges and obstacle courses. Some of them are played solo, while others team you up with other players. You'll be able to customize your character with a bunch of different outfits, too.

Things like this are seriously making me reconsider PS5. If this is what they consider quality or what would make customers on a whole happy, I think they should switch up the kool-aid. In the past year they have really missed the mark with me atleast.

@goobermcdermit: You don't have to pay for their shitty subsciption service if you don't care about those "free" games. It's only mandatory if you wanna play anything online. And if you do then there's no way around it. But feel free to get an Xbox and pay their subcription instead. Last I heard even Nintendo charges for its online services now so this crap is here to stay. It's just way too profitable and way too easy to draw all the suckers in with "free games". And the more crap they add to it that nobody asked for the further they can keep increasing the price.

They don’t have to give us any free games, and the fact that Sony does, I think its pretty cool, even if its not the game I’d choose if given the choice.

@norcodaev: They arent free games, we pay for them. They are complete garbage games, one that isnt even a full game and another no one has heard of. Its a completely poor decision on Sony's part, Im fairly sure many people would be happier with Pong than this garbage. Things are not improving from Sony they are getting worse.

@philip6k: There are plenty of older games as well as indie games that are much better then these selections. AAA games do not equal quality in the first place, which we have all experienced first hand. Adding appeal to the service would go a lot further. For example if they bundled it with PSNow for $20 more a month, there would be more appeal to more people, thus lessening the disappointment felt by many people. Just an example of course.

@goobermcdermit: You do realize that is completely subjective? What you may like others may hate, or vice versa. How do you expect them to please everyone? That would also taper off game sales if they constantly released "great" games for free...

Also how would bundling those two together for an additional $20 be better? That's more expensive then simply having both.

@philip6k: Bundling them together would be cheaper for an extra $20 because anyone with basic math skills knows buying a year at a time is more cost efficient then monthly. Monthly is for people who cant do math or use common sense. $20 extra on a year subscription would probably get many more people onto PSNow.

@goobermcdermit: I think you're confused with what your originally wrote. You said bundling "for an extra $20 per month." As I said before, both services are already less than 20 a month combined.

Then you come back and say that everyone with basic math skills knows buying a year is more cost effective than monthy. Well no duh and that had nothing to do with what I said or you originally said. Reading comprehension much?

Also if they were just to let you have PS Now for an additional $20 with plus (which I think is what you originally meant to write but did so poorly), that would cut into their profits tremendously! LOLOL you think they should just cut the yearly price by 75%, the amount of new people that would have to sign up to make up that loss would be way too much to rely on. Basic buisiness man.

@just1mohr: I've heard speculation (and that's all it is right now, so far as I know) that maybe MS is going to drop Live Gold and make online play free, then sell Game Pass Xbox, Game Pass PC, X-Cloud streaming, and Game Pass Ultimate as their subscriptions services.

@mogan: Did you hear this speculation in the comment section here? Or was it even you who I've seen make this guess a while ago? I haven't seen any indiciation whatsoever for MS making online play free again and there is zero reason for them to do so. They are the ones who introduced this after all, at a time when online play was still completely new and so it would have benefitted them to make it free back then. To through away those profits now makes absolutely zero sense.

But I can actually think of 1 reason why they might consider doing this: because they know they're way behind Sony and stand no chance, so getting rid of Xbox Live would provide them with a similar advantage as the backwards compatibility they provided for many last gen games. An advantage that probably would have a similar effect: next to none. So I wouldn't count on Sony following suit if MS was really to do this.

@goobermcdermit: Yep. The more stuff you can cram into one thing, the more you can charge for it. And right now that seems to be the only option for Xbox players as it's supposed to cost around as much as paying for Xbox Live with the options that are still available.

@sippio: Yes, Infinity Ward isn't going to release another multiplayer game that can compete with their Modern Warfare they already have out. The campaign for this however was iconic so its not bad that we have it. I've played through the remastered and like it a lot.

@DarkCaptain3: Compete? Are you talking about the first MW? Is anyone even still playing this? MW2 was the most successful COD at the time and it was still very active even 2+ years later. So the decision to not rerelease the mp for that seems pretty weird. The first MW was nowhere near as popular. It's only where the COD series finally took off.

@Atzenkiller: I mean Warzone is just CoD but battle royale is all. But its not like Fortnite as there's no building or anything. Its more like Hardcore Team Deathmatch but with like 50 teams of 4 instead of 2 teams of 6. Thats actually all Warzone is because all the aspects of HC TDM are in Warzone but it doesn't have most of the Fortnite elements. Personally I hate Fortnite but I can tolerate Warzone sometimes. I'll only play when I have others of course though.

@Atzenkiller: Its Call of Duty Warzone. Its the current multiplayer that Infinity Ward is supporting. If they had put out MW2 multiplayer it would have taken away people from this years CoD. Also you have to remember that they would then have pay for the MW2 servers upkeep and divide their staff to manage the game updates. The only reason that they could do it with CoD WW2 and MW (the remaster one) was because they outsourced the upkeep of the remaster MW to another company entirely. Which in hindsight is also why that one seemed to die pretty quick compared to the WW2 multiplayer. The company they outsourced it to didn't know how to handle the servers upkeep or the updates and the servers were plagued with hackers even on console as they just reused the coding for the originals multiplayer.

And server upkeep generates practically zero cost while even years old COD will probably still generate nice profits due to how popular the series is. There's also at least 3 different studios now working on games for the series so there's really no issues there with having too much to handle.

@Atzenkiller: The game itself is call Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) and when you are talking about Warzone specificially its called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Warzone, as per their own game pages. Also as for the 3 studio's, no its been reduced back down to only 2 but when they outsource the games like they did with the Modern Warfare remaster (the one from like 4 years ago) they had a company no one has even heard of maintain those servers. Not any of the 3 companies that normally handles the games.

This conversation is sortof confusing since we are talking about the 2019 Modern Warfare, except for my last comment all I've spoken about is specifically that Modern Warfare. Warzone is a game mode of that MW game is all.

@Atzenkiller: Warzone is a mode of MW. Also I've talked to a lot of people who started by playing Warzone and then wound up buying the full game later. Also despite the fact Warzone is free people still pay money in it for the battle pass every season. Thats 20 dollars per season or 40 depending. Then you have the people who buy all the levels of the battle pass day 1 (which there are tons of, youtubers do this). Warzone itself might be a free game mode of MW but it does bring in a lot of money as shown by them when doing financial talks.

@sippio: Pretty sure that at least 50% of PS4 players around the globe enjoy every Cod game so they will be happy for this month. And Cod days have made a come back, either u accept it or not the new MW hve break the media with the campaign, the multiplayer and of course Warzone. I'm not a fan of cod, but i enjoy em... specially the old ones like MW1, MW2 and Black Ops 1... and now Warzone.

Anyway everybody with their own taste... Bad month for you sure. I would hve a really bad month with titles u came on like any JRPGs game, or NHL or PES.

@tsunami2311: If you were the kind of guy who plays PES, then why would you not already be owning the latest version? I always did back when I was playing it all the time against a friend. Offering yearly sports iterations with PS+ is the dumbest thing ever because most people don't care about them, and those who do usually already own them.
