Magic gathering on Xbox Live, PC

Wizards of the Coast confirms two new titles based on its collectible card game currently in development.

Wizards of the Coast is summoning a pair of new digital adaptations of its long-standing Magic: The Gathering collectible card game brand. The Hasbro subsidiary today announced that it would be bringing games based on the franchise to Xbox Live Arcade and the PC.

Details were virtually nonexistent, but one of the games is being developed by Stainless Games and will appear on Live Arcade and the PC. The UK-based Stainless was the studio behind the controversial Carmageddon, but has more recently trafficked in lighter fare, such as Atari Classic on the PlayStation Portable and the Xbox Live Arcade versions of Crystal Quest, Tempest, and Missile Command.

The other Magic project will be made for the PC and Mac, with Mind Control Software set to develop. The California-based studio is known for its PlayStation Portable strategy game Field Commander, as well as the downloadable PC casual strategy game Osiris.

Now that Hasbro owns WotC, I have little faith for the future of my favorite card game franchise. I hope for the best, but I won't raise my expectations too high.

Oh hell..in an age of microtransactions, this game is going to get WAY out of control. I just want to play the damn game, not blow my family's estate to make a decent deck of cards.

I always had a lot of fun playing Magic, but unless its free to play online, I don't see any reason to play on my xbox. And why would they do that when they're still selling the physical cards for real money? The biggest problem with magic is finding people to play. The second biggest problem with magic is that it is too expensive for what it is... a card game.

As a Magic fan I'm hopefully this won't turn into another version of Battlegrounds.

As long as it's like the card game and not some weird freak of nature like that Magic the Gathering: Battlegrounds which I personally didn't like a bit, well if it's the card game I'll be all over it. I like the card game but stopped playing years ago, not so much because it's an expensive hobby but because there was cards for miles and I didn't wanna deal with the clutter anymore. I understand you can play online on the PC and stuff now but if I can get the similar/the same thing on the 360 I'll take it. My recliners more suitable for hours of gaming then my PC chair is I'm afraid, heh.

Snore. Magic became stupid years ago. The last thing we need is more of it.

I've never played Magic myself but this should be good news to fans. And an original game heading for XBLA can't be a bad thing either.

I wouldn't mind buying an Xbox Live arcade Magic the Gathering. I haven't played that card game in about 15 years. I wonder how they would create the decks however. It might suck if you have to buy multiple add on expansions just to get more cards. I guess we'll see.
