After its existence was confirmed in 2004, Max Payne 3 faded from public view for five years. Then, this past March, Take-Two officially announced that Rockstar's Vancouver studio was taking the reins of the hard-boiled shooter series. The game was originally pegged for a "winter 2009" release, but has since been pushed back into the first half of 2010.

Unfortunately, other than the game's official site launching with a few screens showing a bald, bulked-up Payne living in a Brazilian slum, little has been heard about the sequel since the initial announcement.

However, this week, what appeared to be a teaser trailer for the game surfaced on YouTube, showing that, despite having less hair and more girth, the series hero will use his signature bullet time mechanic. Rockstar reps had not confirmed its authenticity as of press time, but the character model and title font appear to be the same as those on the game's official site.

The Max Payne franchise began with the acclaimed 2001 original, developed by Finish studio Remedy (Alan Wake), produced by the increasingly troubled 3D Realms (Duke Nukem Forever), and published by Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive's defunct Gathering label. It was followed in 2003 by the similarly praised sequel Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne.

I'm one of the biggest Max Payne fans around and NO ONE can deny that 3 looks to be going in an entirely different direction from the first 2 from whatever tidbits we've gotten so far. Whatever they've shown me just makes me want 3 even less every time.

Looks pretty legit to me. I liked what I read about the game in Game Informer a little while back. A bit of a different take on the series to be sure since a different dev is at the helm, but I have high hopes for it.

Well that was utterly disappointing. At this point I'll be amazed if there's even an ounce of film noir hiding in MP3.

Just as many, i don't really know how real this is but we'll just have 2 wait and see!! As for this game, i don't mind the new Brazil setting however, it would be cool if the new team behind the development of the game stick close to the predecessors and also include a large part of the snowy, gritty New York areas that the past titles were known for, in other words, Brazil will only be a portion in which the player will get to experience shootouts and also, here's hoping that Max will now have 2 way aiming, can take cover and can use enemies as human sheilds!!

If it's really coming out this winter, this trailer should be showing gameplay, because this trailer isn't going to hype up anyone.
