The PC version of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be released on September 15, two weeks after the console edition arrives September 1, publisher Konami announced today.

Konami did not provide an explanation for the different release dates.

It's not uncommon, however, for PC versions of high-profile games to launch after their console counterparts. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes came to PC in December 2014, a full nine months after the game's release on consoles in March of that year.

Konami also today announced the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Collector's Edition and more.

They're trying to make PC gamers buy the console version because of hype. Why would you do that when it's two weeks away from the definitive edition with all the bells and whistles...I don't know.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I wonder why they're doing this. I didn't even expect the game to come out for the PC so I was planning on getting a console a few years from now to play the next MGS like I've always done. I'm fine with a slightly later PC release date.

That is great. Hope this game isn't going to be tainted by nVidia's proprietary software as i have an AMD card.....I don't think Kojima would allow that :).

<< LINK REMOVED >> Ground Zeroes, which is already out, ran amazingly on my HD 7750. So I doubt there'll be that kind of problem.

Unfortunately, the game didn't click very well with me, which is a shame.

<< LINK REMOVED >>Going to have to refer to Ground Zeroes again here. It was one of the best performing games of last year. That and GTA V this year are examples of how to do a PC port right.

And both of the games you mentioned came out 9 months or more after their console siblings.

Sorry, but I'll be shocked if this port is anywhere near as good as the two comparisons you've picked. Likely it will be more like the thousand other awful ports released with their console versions.

<< LINK REMOVED >> You talk as if they don't touch the PC version at all until the console versions are shipped and then do it all in the last two weeks.

Besides, they have the groundwork down pat. It's completely different from porting an entirely new game from scratch.

<< LINK REMOVED >> really doubt nvidia would be involved in a game meant for consoles. If anything PC will get the worst port of the game because it was optimized for consoles (no proprietary tech involved).

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> That is a possibility. But when sth comes out for PC, you can be sure as hell SOMEONE'S gonna mod it soon. Take Dark Souls for example. Once DSFix came out, it solved nearly all the vital issues of the port. The latest version of DSFix even unlocked the game's frame rate, which seemed to work for me, idk about anyone else.

And in the scenario the game can't be modded at all, there's always SweetFx to take care of the graphics at least. Still, MGR: Revengeance wasn't too bad a port, so I'm pretty sure Phantom Pain will be playable to say the least.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Lol, ignorance is bliss. Ground Zeroes ran better than most games for me. So I doubt there will be any issues with this game. No sign of bad porting at all... PC will get the superior version.

Using an image of a girl in shiny black clothing to attract people to your article? Isn't that a little juvenile?

You can see that image better here, by the way: << LINK REMOVED >>

<< LINK REMOVED >> Save up and upgrade to a $150 GPU. R9 280 is on sale now for $170 and its $150 after rebate on newegg i believe. If not, then pick up the 270x. I wouldn't recommend any of the nVdia cards between $100-$300 btw....

As long as the port is solid (which from what I've heard ground zeros was) A couple of weeks is fine. Then again I'm not a huge MGS guy so I probably won't pick it up until it goes on discount.

I'm worried about the road that Metal Gear is following. This series was top-notch, almost perfect as PlayStation exclusive (PS1 / PS2 / PS3), now that is multi-platform (Rising: Revengeace / Ground Zeroes) is becoming just a normal game.

<< LINK REMOVED >>You seem to be terribly misinformed. MGS started off as a multiplatform series. MGS and MGS2 were released on PC, and MGS2 was also released on Xbox.

Although released many years after, MGS2, MGS3, and Peace Walker were released on Xbox 360.

MGS4 and MGS Portable Ops are the only PS exclusives in the series.

I would suggest that your worry that MGS is becoming multiplatform is entirely unwarranted.

edit: The Metal Gear games that predate MGS were also multiplat.

All the versions of MGS that went to non-playstation platforms were ports. MGS2 was released on Xbox and pc only as the revamped substance version (and the pc port was terribly buggy). MGS2, MGS3 and Peacewalker were released on Vita, PS3 and 360 as part of an HD Collection for a later console generation - I would hardly call that multiplatform. Metal Gear Solid has always had Playstation exclusivity. Only recently have they become truly multiplatform.

Back to the point though, I was also worried about making Metal Gear going multiplatform, but after playing Ground Zeroes on PC I was impressed. It was smooth and bug free, unlike MGS2 Substance which may have actually been the buggiest game I've ever played.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Revengeance was developed by Platinum games, the same people who did Bayonetta, please don't try and put that game in the same league as core MGS games.
