MGS4 ships a million in Europe

@gamespot, its shipped well over 1m in Europe and japan combined, whats with the poll saying its only 1m with Europe and japan combined?

Um guys, Halo3 sold 3 million in one week and GTA4 sold 5 million in one week, hype shouldnt matter if the game is good. wootasifwoot Most people played Halo2 or 1 before getting the 3rd, so i hardly doubt a lot of people bought the game just because there was a lot of hype stop being a fanboy.

@pang0012 Stop trolling dude. The game is exclusive to the PS3 and we know that but it moved units unlike GTA4 and Halo 3. They are counting the European and Japanese charts wait till we hear about the US Charts. Even if they did port it we know Xbox/Nintendo gamers don't appreciate MGS due to the flopping of the old ones. Konami knows what they did like Tecmo did with Ninja Gaiden 2, talk about a overhyped game, lol.

The game had hype on the forums, no where else. If you didn't notice there are almost no ads on TV for metal gear, I've only seen one ad for it since it's release. IF metal gear was advertised almost as much as HALO 3 for example, it would have sold just as much. People would be buying the game with no knowledge of it what-so-ever kinda like how people bought HALO 3, with all the HYPE surrounding it.

I bet it would i back when system wars bets still existed. Lol we still don't know how much it sold in America, but its already sold over 1.5 million copys in the smaller markets

Whether it's on 360,or PS3 or Wii,you just can't stop a good game from selling,eh? I am rather glad that MGS4 sold well,even though I own only a 360,as one could really see that Kojima and Co. really worked hard to make this game so good.

Alright.....way 2 go Metal Gear landing a SOLID HIT and making a SOLID STATEMENT!! Its a SOLID reward for a SOLID game that goes out with a SOLID BANG!! I'm guessing this SOLID badboy will be up on the top charts for a while!!

I am amazed it has shipped 1 million units in Europe. I think the game is very impressive.

Sorry but I didn't start it. Its just interesting which console will eventually win the race and this news article certainly shows that the PS3 is narrowing the gap.

360 and ps3 are near equal in terms of power. Its the games that will set them apart and the online interface. Sony has promising exclusives ahead and so does microsoft for their consoles but it won't be long before the consoles are even on exclusives. The ps3 is now outselling the xbox 360 and with home on the way, microsoft will have to even better their xbox live service. 360 big exclusives for the future are Gears 2 and Fable 2 while ps3 exclusives will be FF XIII, FF vs XIII and Killzone 2. People may have doubts about Killzone 2 because the first one was a let-down but Guerrilla have been developing this game for more than 3 years now and their full concentration is on this game and what they've showed off so far certainly looks impressive. Gears of War 2 should be a great game but it will be hard for it to improve that much over the first one. However, MGS4 may be the most graphically impressive game this generation so far but that may be due to the effort Kojima Productions has put into it and may not be the fact that it is on the PS3. From the graphics comparisons available on this site between games on both consoles, it is likely that MGS4 would actually look better on the 360. The question is; why has the majority of games so far looked better on 360 than PS3? Is it because of different GPUs or is it because the majority of developers have more difficulty making games for the PS3 than the 360 or is it both?

So, they sold 1m copies. No offense to them, but this really isn't that amazing/big of news. It's one of those to be expected things. I mean, a game that good doesn't exactly stay on shelves very long during the first month or so. I don't even have a PS3 and I know this. Oh, and fanboys aren't an embarrassment to their system, it gives all gamers a bad rep.

Gears or War was the best game the 360 had to offer and that was released in 2006. And here we are, just about a year and a half into the life of the PS3 and MGS4 is being hailed by some as the best video game ever. So if you're correct and the 360 is twice the power, what happened? Graphically nothing on the 360 can touch MGS4. In fact the 360 doesn't have anything that graphically compares to Uncharted, GT5 prologue or MGS4. You might have some nice stats there that have certainly convinced you but reality doesn't seem to have your back.

Ok, first of all the ps3 cell processor has not got 7 cores it only haves 1 core and 7 cash extensions. The Xbox 360 Xenon processor haves 3 cores each of the cores has two symmetric hardware threads for a total of six hardware threads, in english mini processors. OK, GPU, the PS3 GPU haves 24 pixal pipelines, polygon conut:366.66 million polygons per second, maximum vertex count: 1.1 billion vertices per second, 2-sample anti-aliasing. The Xbox 360 GPU haves 48 pixal pipelines, polygon count: 500 million polygons per second. maximum vertex count: 1.5 billion vertices per second, 4-sample anti-aliasing. Memory (RAM), the ps3 haves a max of 512mb of ram but only 256mb of RAM for graphics, games. The Xbox 360 haves 512mb of RAM for graphics, games, and thats how the X360 can do more hi-rez textures then the ps3.In fact the X360 is more then double the PS3 power.

Just got it. So far it is awesome. The controls won't satisfied the adrenaline junkie who plays Gears or even Uncharted, but it is fine by me. The story is great, you know like when Snake bla bla bla.... Kojima and the team really deserve this. Congratz

Not taking into account all the storage space required for uncompressed audio and literally hours of cutscenes, a major overhaul of the engine would have to occur. Theres no way that a PS3 game ported directly to the 360 could stack up to current gen titles....the simplified lighting sources and lack of high dynamic range lighting wouldnt fly on the 360...the engine would have to be almost entirely re-written and all the level assets would have to be redone to take proper advantage of the inclusion of current gen lighting effects. All that upscaling to the 360 hardware would be cost prohibitive unless the sales dont measure up to a 40% or so attach rate (about 4 million copies by current install base figures)

Thank you Konami for the series, especially MGS4, which for me, has been the definitive gaming experience of the decade. I'm devastated it ended, and just live in hope that the big K decide to offer offline dlc in terms of "Snake Tales" or something similar using the MGS engine.

The games sold like crazy, 99.999% of people that played the game loved it, and thats including all the professional reviewers..... I just wanna know what your definition of success is, because I think that has done pretty damn good myself. Maybe its because its not on the 360?!? Hmmmm..... LincolnSixEcho - I was too, until I realized that this game was made to play through more than once, then I decided to play through the game the first time and get the story, then play through it again and soak-in what all it has to offer!

What I don't get is why there are people who feel that they MUST rain on the parade? I say congrats to Konami for making a great game. I love MGS4 and am taking my time with it so that I can enjoy every detail with it. Is there some kind pathetic satisfaction that comes as a result of casting doubt on the number of sales? Is that person's life truly that sad of affairs? Typical FanBot mentality saying, "My dad can beat up your dad." Get over it.
