Modern day Assassin's Creed possible

Lead writer Darby McDevitt says "there's always a chance," but major draw for the series is element of "historical tourism."

A modern day Assassin's Creed game is possible, according to comments from lead writer on the series Darby McDevitt today during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

No Caption Provided

As relayed from the company's Twitter feed, McDevitt said, "there's always a chance, but one of the biggest draws of the series is the historical 'tourism.'"

Past entries in the Assassin's Creed series have been set during various periods in history, including Colonial America, the Third Crusade, and the Renaissance.

Also during the panel, McDevitt offered a more concrete tease about the future of the Assassin's Creed series, saying a feudal Japan setting excites him.

"I think the Shogunate is in a cool era, but it's not up to one person, and whatever we do, we'll make it cool," he said.

Ubisoft also used its Comic-Con showing to reveal an all-new Assassin's Creed comic book called Assassin's Creed: Brahman. It takes place in 19th century India under British rule and stars new hero Arbaaz Mir. The comic will release later this fall alongside Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

They should do one in the time of william wallace in the year 1275-1305 during the Wars of Scottish Independence the main assassin should be a scottish farmer his name could be Hamish the main plot is that are assassin works with william wallace to free the scottish from the English and the templars that are the head of the ordile. well give commit on what you think and assassins creed is amazing it has the best details then any other game's iv played i mean even the online multi players have a characters past that you can read about and AC3 is amazing but it did fall from the assassin creed story line a tiny bit it's still good though.and i do haft to say Desmond is geating boring.

Why is Ubisoft letting the general public decide what games they make? Do they just not have anyone left to create great games but programmers and painters?? No writers or directors with corporate leadership who have the balls to believe in their own ideas and creative teams?? Where are the creative people in the world who can embrace the original vision of Ass. Creed and keep true in spirit always to that vision? We gamers welcome change - no we ache for change so don't talk about what little changes you are making to see if the world likes it or not - I can tell you that 13 minute game play trailer was the best reason not to buy AC4 that has come out yet. Was that the goal?? If you have anything specia or surprising or exciting about the game now would be the time to start hinting about it. I have to wonder how many great ideas were tossed out by corporate lackeys saying 'that's not gonna sell' . . .

I think it's time we get a AC in Asia with ninja's or samurai, maybe cut loose from the main storyline of Desmond so you can get multiple storylines going from other subjects. I wish they would make a full game in the future for Desmond, all the parts you play now for Desmond feel rushed and unfinished but I guess it's too late to make a full game for that now, maybe a game for another subject that only plays in the future. I will buy AC4 but I'm not sure I would if it was not a PS4 launch game, they are draging the whole Desmond thing on way too long and making up stuff to keep it going, I don't like the thought anymore that all the old important assassins are connected to Desmond and Desmond only.

Who WANTS a modern day assassin's creed?

They still have so much Ancient Greece, Rome, China, Japan, WW1 and WW2 to go...

They really just need to drop the whole desmond stupidity and just make it strictly about historical tourism. The assassin vs. templars is meta story enough, you don't need to include that goober in every game and make us play as his dumbass in boring poorly written sequences. Just give us more of the good stuff.

Why would they stop at modern day, how about the future?

I'm sure they could weave some BS in the story about future memories or something like that.

To infinity and beyond.... and that is just their bank balance.

the reason they are not doing it is because that particular game is suppose to be THE END of the series, the final confrontation, but UBI decided that since they make A LOT of money out of it (the series) they should postpone it indefinitely=$$$

Not only possible; it SHOULD have been Assassins Creed 3. The entire PURPOSE of II was to transform Desmond from the most annoying character in the game to an actual, cool assassin. Instead Ubisoft decided to just milk the series' teats dry with yearly releases and AssThreed is the result. I am excited about Black Flag but I am still very angry about 3. This series SHOULD have ended in the modern day with Assassins Creed III. Black Flag SHOULD be a wholly new property.

@duffc25 Michael Bay is too busy with the next Transformers movie, and Uwe Boll is making another BloodRayne (probably). They'll get around to it eventually.

Wouldn't it be awesome if we could play as other subjects?
I mean, we play as Desmond, who is actually Subject 17. And, in my opinion, if there's content from the other subjects in these games, and if there's something more on "The Truth', as ACII had, I'll make it sure I buy it day one.

At least the first game had some challenge in it. In ACII Brotherhood you became almost immortal, in ACIII people don't even try to kill you. Am I the only on that cares that 10-15 people with rifles are not able to shoot you in AC3? A modern day game would be even worse, would all the bad guys just stand there with their automatic weapons and watch you stab their colleagues?

@PrpleTrtleBuBum Assassinating Nazis seeking to dominate the world with evil magic? Isn't that a bit overdone? As for the others, I doubt they'll go back before the 3rd crusades. Ubisoft isn't cool enough to do a greek/rome AC game.

You can still have "historical tourism" in a modern day setting. You just need to pick the right place... a place that's not overburdened with technology and celebrates a nation's roots and history. I'm sure you can find several places in China that are very old school and filled with old school people despite it being 2013. Personally I'd find it very interesting to blend the two together. Because it -is- 2013 you can bring modern elements into settings like this.

Imagine a corporation or the government or something having great interest in a place like this and now you have firearms and stuff in these ancient places, but it's not out of place because it takes place in modern day China and the tech obviously exists. You'd go from little to no modern presence, to a very modern presence as the government/corporate influence on the area increases. It breathes new life into the game as it's being played, which to me would help because I really couldn't finish Brotherhood. I got bored of it early on because it was essentially the same as ACII.

Personally I think a modern day Assassin's Creed could help bring new elements to the series, and save it from its current saturated state.

NOW DON'T GET ME WRONG, as I don't believe a modern AC would be anything like CoD or Watch Dogs.

Infact I think it would resemble more to earlier versions of Splinter Cell (but imagine the 1st mission of Conviction and add in free-roam). I think it would be perfect and refreshing.

Furthermore, I think Ubosft should also make an AC game about the 1st civilization (playing as Eve 70000 years ago), that would be fresh too.

Lastly, I think they should focus more on the original plots of the story than boring politics of history (not saying they should avoid those, but have them like a side-issue), because both those (Desmond's and Connor's) endings in AC3 were horrible. No more cliffhangers either... please.

Modern AC = Splinter Cell (stealth and climbing) + Sleeping Dogs (melee combat and open-world)

I would totally welcome this especially if it changes the gameplay somehow. Don't get me wrong, I like the gameplay but after 4 games in 4 years with the same shit I could use a change.
