More Microsoft-Published Games Could Come to Steam

"We have and we'll continue to look where it makes sense to bring out titles to Steam."

Just recently, Microsoft announced that Quantum Break is coming to Steam, following its release on Xbox One and the Windows Store for PC. Could more Microsoft-published games come to Valve's digital storefront in the future? Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg said in a new interview that Microsoft will put games on Steam "where it makes sense" instead of declaring that all of its games will come to the store.

"Well, from a fist-party standpoint, over the years, we've always had titles in the Steam store, from Age of Empires, to Alan Wake, to even more recently we had titles like Ori and State of Decay," Greenberg told DualShockers. "We have and we'll continue to look where it makes sense to bring out titles to Steam."

"We're excited to have brought Quantum Break there, we know there are fans of the Steam store, and costumers there that we can reach, that will enable the title to have even more success," he added.

Overall, Greenberg said Microsoft will continue to think about Steam when it's deciding where to launch its PC games. However, he mentioned again that this will only be "where it'll make sense."

Greenberg did not offer any insight into what factors Microsoft takes into consideration when it's deciding where to release its PC games.

You can read the full DualShockers interview here.

Quantum Break comes to Steam on September 14 alongside a version of the game for physical retailers called Quantum Break: Timeless Collector's Edition.

The version of Quantum Break coming to Steam will include "all of the latest updates." Quantum Break's Steam version and the Timeless Collector's Edition will sell for $40.

In other news about Quantum Break for Steam, developer Remedy Entertainment has confirmed you won't need Windows 10 to play it.

Greenberg's comments about possibly releasing more Microsoft-published games on Steam is no real surprise. At E3 this year, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said more Steam releases of Microsoft-published games were on the way. Also, Steam is a juggernaut in the PC space; it has more than 125 million users.

All PC(steam) gamers, please relax and be positive. Don't you think that after releasing on their store and rookie launch the steam release will be much better and smooth. Look at those titles which were launched on Steam and they disappointed the Steam community (i.e. NMS and Desu EX:MD etc)

@tr4newreck: oh, I guess you took me wrong dude. Deus Ex is not great, it is one of the greatest games series.

What I am saying here is that now a days almost every PC game is broken at launch and after a week or two devs release patch(s) to make their games better which should be better at launch. Deus Ex:MD faced the same laziness from dev and now they are (or will be) patching the game in next couple of week due to some issues. Hope you get it.

So if any game release on a Steam after has been released on different store like Origin, UPlay or Win then it would be polished and better playable.

I'm glad to see Microsoft has come to its senses. Personally, I am perfectly willing to buy Microsoft's products provided they are offered on Steam, but will not buy their products if they are not. In the end, releasing games on Steam means more money for Microsoft.

Microsoft's Xbox one officially has no exclusives saying"console exclusive" don't help no matter how you say it i don't have windows 10 and i don't need it MS lied to you when they said Xbox one and windows 10 exclusive at E3 2016 might as well bring all Xbox one games to all platforms.

@codisgod: who cares, i have a pc and NEVER had a desire to pick up a controller to play a console version of ANY game... and i cant stand FPS on a controller so never bothered with any console exclusive.

the point is their audiences are different, so dont fret too much about 'xbox exclusivity' the notion itself is repulsive to most pc gamers... no pc gamer went out and got a console because of one console exclusive.

You have to put it on steam if you want to sell more then 50 copies so i think it makes perfect sense for all games.

Games for Windows Live - fail. Windows 10 Store - fail. Hmm, I see a pattern here. Now let me think real hard on how to fix this mess....(light bulb flashes) I know, release all games on Steam and make everyone happy! You can thank me later Microsoft

@hammr25: They wish. Check Dragon Age Origin which is still available on Steam. Sold millions more than their crappy Dragon Age that only sold on Origin.

@Moonco: kinda with you even hating steam....at least we know the games will work or steam will pull them......just have to make sure the keys for these games get sold on other sites or they do real disc copies for these games.....even if the disc is a steam install and a COA......at least the discs will go on sale as retailers will want to rid of them after a little bit of time.....

I don't get this how can you build up the Microsoft store which no one wants to use anyway and then put games you say windows 10 on steam lol then what's the point of the windows store ?? People will just wait because they figure it will eventually go to steam . Sound like they don't have faith in their own store qb not even 6 months old. Like they setting up for the play anywhere windows 10 thing to fail

@spectrexr1: well.....lots of places are doing this right now.....i get on origins and i see sales for Uplay games.......i get on Uplay and see games from EA........steam also sells games (or did at one point) for both of them....you bought the game on steam but still had to install origins or uplay to play the game you just bought on steam.......so we still dont truly know if its a steam running game as it could be steam selling it with the game needing windows store running to play it........will have to wait and see.....

@spectrexr1: Since Remedy are not owned by MS, part of the deal that got MS some exclusivity was probably to allow a general PC release later on down the line.

MS's problem here is that they missed the first boat, bit like what happened with smartphones and MP3 players. They are trying hard to create their own inward looking, Apple styled ecosystem but people generally don't like change and once embedded are difficult to budge. People have vast libraries on Steam thus return to Steam and will find little incentive to look elsewhere.

MS should create their own marketplace alongside Steam but allow ALL their titles to go on Steam. Beat Steam on every price and they will win financially but try putting up walls and they are destined to lose. They don't own anything that people will en-mass feel the need to use it(think your GTAs, CoDs etc).

PS there is only one thing stopping MS games integrating with Live when bought from Steam, MS themselves(a simple app would allow it)...

@kyelo: They also forget that the people using Apple stuff are the delusional people who like getting shoved into controlled boxes because they think it's better than everything else. The PC users are the ones who don't think like that, so they'd never accept that kind of locked ecosystem.

@Thanatos2k: Your intolerance and bias is showing again. I love Apple products (phones and iPads) but also love technology in general. I have a killer PC, an XBOX, a PS4, etc. Don't assume that all Apple users are idiots. FYI, I also tried Android for awhile, but was not impressed (especially with the lack of being able to easily upgrade from one phone to the next).

@Thanatos2k: LOL, I still have an iPad first generation that fully charges, so not changing the battery is a non-issue for 99% of the people. Even Samsung has gone that way. Maybe you should question your own capabilities.

@bfeinberg: "I still have an iPad first generation that fully charges"

Now I know that's a lie, because my well-treated iPad (that I won in a contest) died years ago.

@Thanatos2k: Oh, so lets see now. Your purely anecdotal evidence of ONE iPad that you owned means everyone who experienced and claimed differently is a liar. Wow. Let me know when you mature so we can have an intelligent conversation. My first gen iPad is being used by my daughter as we speak. I hand down my electronics to the kids and the iPads just keep on kicking. The only thing I had to do was replace the home button on one of my iPad 2's so far because it stopped registering clicks.

@bfeinberg: after using mac for years i just cant look at them any more and say its not stolen from other people that truly did it first.....the tablet in 2002 had the same specs as apples in 2010 but the older tablet did more things and ran the first touched based OS in history with XP......even itunes is a lie when they bought out (more like forced out ) the people that came up with the idea.....itunes before it was taken over was going to give 85% to the artists.....apple takes i think 50% of every sale on it now......i cant believe they won a court case on rounded edges when wood workers came up with that in the 15th century......dont forget any modern table from the 50's or 60's on top of it.......every time i look at a apple product i see stolen ideas.......
