New Xbox One S TV Ad Touts 4K Blu-Ray Player

Microsoft is going to sell a boat load of these consoles this Holiday season. Well played.

One can argue that the xbox is ahead simply because it doesn't have No Mans Sky.

How many people on here actually bought a ps3 because it had a bluray player? (That was the main reason)... So many people are over hyping the 4k player. It's a gaming console!! Can you even rent 4k blurays from redbox yet? Am I the only one that thinks dvds are just as enjoyable to watch as blurays? I'm guessing a lot of the hype is fanboyism? Because if you cared that much about 4k physical media, you have no problem buying a player (just as bluray dropped in price, the same will happen with 4k bluray... predicting a decent brand for $149.99 on black friday). I wish this site would do more polls as to how many own a 4k tv, or when they plan on buying one. And a poll about how important a 4k bluray player is, and whether you prefer streaming media or physical.

Not plans to buy a new TV or monitor for a while, so it's 1080p gaming for me until probably 2020 / PS5 era. Looking at actual benchmarks you need upwards of 10 TFLOPS GTX 1080+ for actual 4K gaming, so tech will be ready by then.

Games games games.... It's ALL about the games! Something both of the big two have completely forgotten about. Xbox exclusives have barely lived up to their hype. Halo 5? Plotless, but excellent multiplayer. Quantum Break? So much potential but lost in the "it's a tv show/game" gimmick. Forza 5, Project Spark, Screamride, Ryse??? All forgotten.

On the positive side, Forza 6 and the Horizon series have been great, as were the two budget exclusives, Rare Replay and Recore. (Don't listen to critics on Recore, they treat it like a $90 season pass AAA blockbuster, and it's just a complete $40 game with no dlc.)

Sony has had the same gaming identity crisis. Closing two first party studios the same week they announced the Pro. The Order was pretty... Pretty short and dull. No Mans Sky??? Oh so bad. Reviewers have already doomed the "blockbuster hit 10 years in the making from the studio who brought you ico and Shadow of the Colossus!!!" Saying it seems dull and uninteresting. I just see the dog/dragon/thing from the film "Neverending Story"... On the positive side, Ratchet and Clank reboot was a great idea, as were Uncharted and the string of released and upcoming Japanese 3rd party exclusives.

But that's it. The hits aren't hitting.

Last Generation, new game series were starting, which became great hits. Gears, Assassins Creed, Uncharted, Call of Duty (Technically), Portal, and so on. Others built on their previous generations success and became better while the rest faded away, as they should. This generation has become Nintendo in a way, riding the coat tails of games two generations old and depending on gamer nostalgia to carry it forward. Are they out of ideas, is there nothing new?no more stories to tell, just more zombie games?

@jerjef absolutely they can patch it according to the microsoft developer guy with an unpronouncable Italian sounding name..lol. most people who have a 4k set I would imagine have updated their act also. Bitstream support is a must and microsoft have loads of people requesting it.

Microsoft need to desperately release a patch to support bitstream on the system. 4k uhd without don't Atmos and DTS x? Only half the boasting rights without those.

They are going to sell a lot of these systems this Holiday.

Microsoft can keep releasing all these hardware upgrades and limited editions but what matters most are the games and the Xbone does not have the exclusives to compete with the big boys from Sony and Nintendo
