New Xbox Series X Info Could Come Next Week

In the wake of GDC 2020 being postponed, Microsoft is hosting its scheduled conference panels and announcements on Mixer.

With GDC 2020 postponed, several companies and developers are sharing what they had planned for the conference via alternative means. One such company is Microsoft, which is hosting two days of Mixer livestreams (called Game Stack Live) to share its GDC panels and announcements, including a talk seemingly designed to provide further details about Xbox Series X.

On the second day of livestreams, March 18, Microsoft will hold a panel for Xbox Series X and Project xCloud at 11:40 AM PT. The segment will be devoted to talking about the new chapter of gaming. Just before that, at 10:40 AM PT, Microsoft will talk about how online services are defining the next generation of gaming--which could possibly offer insight into Xbox Series X as well.

I see Microsoft will keep dropping bits of information about the Series X every single month even if E3 gets cancelled while still making Sony nervous by them not really knowing what Microsoft would do next.

If Sony initially cancelled E3 waiting on Microsoft to show their hand, then that will sure fire back at them.

I’m more hyped for the next Nintendo thing at this point since I barely got my fix this generation…Lot of major titles missing & while Zelda was the shit it could’ve been better…

PS5 was already a given - like updating TVs. Wish it would drop sooner than later tho since I’ve been waiting patiently for my UHD player… look forward to finally playing some good source material instead of all this streaming shit.

Oh, and for all this virus stuff going around…Vitamin C people, and 8 hours sleep.

Sony isn't use to being forced, but anything is weird these days, like regie (former CEO of Nintendo north America division) assisting GameStop on the probable cause of loss and remittance from worldly free market changes and poor decisions.

Then we have those (off topic) companies freaking out more about loss of profit and damages to business sales and profits due to the mutating sars outbreak, where businesses are closing or going into administration and lastly paranoid about being associated with the outbreak. The truth is more people die from starvation and homelessness then the Corona virus(yes it's super deadly and contagious with no vaccine) but countries like America, Russia, Canada, new Zealand, Australia, ect have no worries to be paranoid of any the epidemic because of the size of geography and population, where as India China, Japan, philipines, and Europe should be seriously concerned due to the sheer size of geography and population density.

The real threat is people asolating them selves amongst society due to what other hirachy of canablism, that is the greatest disease of society.

So with most Japanese working home, especially philipines, and Chinese employees it's really changing the way we do things.

Infact the 3 worse things about society is paranoia, expectations, and lastly distrust amongst cultures.

This complete silence that Sony has sustained in terms of its future plans is beginning to trouble me its like they are living all the room for Microsoft to act. As i have said before i don't like to be taken for granted, so this time around i am seriously considering to buy an xbox series x when next gen launches and this is also because Microsoft puts considerable effort to win over consumers through the acquisition of various development studios, plus it is also important that it will be present in E3(if the event actually happens) and in general tries hard to communicate with consumers, while Sony on the other hand is completely absent like it doesn't care how the next gen thing goes. Also, game pass as a service is a very successful idea that i find very attractive. Finally i find it very positive that Microsoft will keep supporting the xbox one even after series x launches and that it doesn't render obsolete its older console the moment its new one comes to the market and that it tries to promote xbox brand as a whole entity, so no matter if you own an older system or you jump to next gen you have a continuing support by the company. What i am waiting to hear is more exclusive games coming to xbox, in order to finalise my decision. Also because i am a pleased PS4 owner i am waiting to hear something from Sony.....

@Iordanis1278:

It seems like Microsoft has been preparing for this since the Xbox One X released. They haven't been focused on the next console but more the future for the whole brand. They've been pretty clear about the direction they are heading towards for awhile and this is basically their coming out party of revealing the full scope of their plans.

On the other hand I think Sony is more focused on their next console more than the future of PlayStation. Let's not forget they were the first ones to start revealing next gen info about a year ago. That was the first we heard about SSDs and ray tracing so I doubt they are ill prepared. Either MS hit them with something they weren't quite expecting, which I find hard to believe since everything revealed so far is pretty much in line with what people were predicting, or Sony has something up their sleeve and they are just waiting for MS so show their full deck

@Iordanis1278:

I've said a bunch of times on Reddit, that it actually is in the best interest of both MS and Sony not to go first. Especially Microsoft.

A big part of PS4's early success (2013-2015 or 2016) was that they countered Microsoft's marketing strategy, most especially with E3 2013's next-gen reveals (at the time).

If MS really wanted to stick it to Sony, they would play mum now and come out with a 1-2 punch after Sony's reveal.

But the most effective strategy, in my opinion, would've been to understate the Xbox Series X (XBSX) features in 2019's announcements, make Sony piss itself and scramble to up their ante, and then reveal last-minute what the true capabilities and initial rollout plans for XBSX are.

However, as it stands, tech companies, including MS and American ones, don't seem to know how to play a "game of disinformation and mis-intelligence" -- not without potential fallout and pitfalls for the consumers. They'll scheme with or against politicians, foreign powers and the consumers themselves, but they haven't figured out ways to undermine each other's marketing campaigns.

Sony, likely not sure how to proceed, decided that building up huge anticipation and erring on the side of less or under-promising (in this case, being silent or coy) is probably easier to handle. And simplicity often makes the gears keep turning.

With that, I'm reminded of an old business adage: "always under-promise and over-deliver."

@Iordanis1278: I feel you but this time Sony has lost my vote. I had plans to buy both systems in the fall but those plans have been canceled thanks to Sony's silence. I believe that Sony is looking for away to do damage control because let's face it no one thought Microsoft would put forth a Monster like series X. However in Sony's silence people are tired of waiting for something that might not even compare to the series X this time around. Plus with this virus Sony may just lose their butts on this one with the pricing and all. I have a feeling this was just the perfect storm the new PS system will probably come in on price about $600.00 U.S, while Microsoft could come in about $500.00 U.S and take a $100.00 U.S loss on the console and be alright.

At this point I don't care what sony has to offer my mind is made up I'm just going with New xbox for the holidays. Sony's procrastination on the information of the PS5 kinda cost them with me this time around. I was thinking about getting them both for X-mas but this silence to me on Sony's part is either telling me that their console is going to be inferior or they just don't have any confidence in it.

@notafan: I'm not a PlayStation user, but I don't see how them staying silent is losing your confidence. If anything, they've been silently reacting to MS news and finding ways to increase the power and functionality -- the bells and whistles -- of their PS5.

We can make all the arguments about exclusives and all that jazz, but bells and whistle importance adds up to a significant weight, too.

Nintendo had it figured out a long time ago: use the console's features to sell the games, and not the other way around. That is why their bells and whistles are new or alternative methods of input, or modes of console usage. Zelda: Skyward Sword, Metroid Prime trilogy, Mario Galaxy for the Wii are prime examples; for the Switch, virtually everything they've made makes use of Switch functionality.

I think Sony finally gets it too: if the rumours are to be believed, they're making a new controller with a new dimension of feedback: biometric sensors. That's also in addition to built-in mic in the controller, and all that. If rumours are true.

A new generation should partially reinvent the wheel. Not just offer better versions of the same wheel. Microsoft understands this, now, as well: xCloud, Game Pass, SSD hard drives and a possibly-evolved controller (hopefully) changes how we play games. This is the primary way to evolve and push forward a new era in games, and the reason why we'd upgrade to a next-gen console.

Otherwise, we'd just stick to our favourite franchises on the same hardware, and be fine with it. In fact, you'll never know how "oudated" a game can look or play until you play its sequel or a next-gen successor; if you never see it or know of it, then any improvement you might want is all fantasy.

@Jarrkha: I get what you are saying but I have to disagree with you here. It's too late in the game for them to change the specs of their console. Sony doesn't have the time nor the money to go back to the drawing on the PS5 at this time. Not too mention the fact that they are already having a hard time getting the parts to system as is. While trying to keep the cost low to the consumer right now. If anyone thinks that Sony has the time to rebuild the PS5 at this time is almost impossible. The only way that sony could do that is to delay the release of the console and trust me they will never make that choice. It would put them at the losing end of the battle permanently. I think sony is just buying time to come up with a plan that could work somehow but I don't see a way forward them right now. The dev's already have the predevlope dev's kits so sony is locked in right now as we speak. Microsoft caught everybody off guard when they realesed the series X when they did and probably sent sony flying out the window trying to figure out what to do next.

@notafan:Before I respond to the whole thing -- I was talking about their 2019 strategy. Yeah, it is probably too late to "source parts", but tbh, it isn't as if these guys don't have things in the pipelines, backup plans, wells already dug but no need to draw water from them, etc. Catch my drift?

Also, there's a few run-on sentences there; was that intentional? It helped hammer the point in, lol.

@Jarrkha: It seems like an amazing console so far. Sony is in a pickle though just too many things going on at once for them. Sony has to deal with the parts being expensive plus the damn virus and they may have just repeated a Microsoft no no form the xbox one days, with a system that might be under powered this time.

@notafan: Perhaps, but they may be amping up an already aggressive and excessive exclusive-IP policy to remedy that. Perhaps just mitigating those things. I'd say that the return of the "second-party" exclusive concept to prominence might be forthcoming. ("Third-party exclusive" has, IMO, replaced the idea of "second-party." You don't even see the latter term used anymore in professional talk like a podcast or a written article like this one).

It remains to be seen whether that would be good for gaming, because back when there were many more exclusives per platform, the console wars were more heated than they are now, arguably.

@sealionact: Part of this has to do with the "PS4 bubble" that occurred from late 2016 to last year, and a new one this year (Death Stranding's November 2019 release being an outlier). They've actually lost momentum in terms of new IP and hammering out exceptionalfirst-party / second-party exclusive release windows. I suspected that was partly the reason that they pulled out of E3 2019.

And I don't blame Sony or its fans for that -- I blame irresponsible games media who didn't recognize that Sony was on a better-than-usual hot streak that was heightened by Microsoft's worse-than-usual inactivity. What they did was essentially paint a transient state as a new permanent, settled state. (I'm using physics terminology to describe markets, which is not as unusual as one might think).

The sugar high ("transient state") is coming down -- the bubble bursting -- and the natural state (or equilibrium state) is returning, but it is important that PS-fans (and critics too) realize that the "natural state" is not a low state.

Edit: the analogy of transient vs. equilibria states are best and most simply explained with electricity. Consider what happens when you flip the switch to turn on your light bulb. For the initial few nanoseconds, there's a surge in current and a flux, but that surge lessons to a more settled flow afterwards. In the past, AFAIK that's actually why we could wear out a circuit board faster if we flip it on and off constantly.

Man, this coronavirus hysteria is really hitting everything hard.

Seems like everything is either being postpones or outright cancelled.

The closer we get to E3 the more apprehensive I am it will go off without any issues. The worst part is that this is the year of new consoles/next gen being revealed. The next few years of who will be where in terms of dominance in the gaming world will more than likely be decided in some significant part during the next few months.

There have been many predictions as to what will most likely happen but with the way the coronavirus has been throwing a monkey wrench in everything anything is possible.

@consolehaven:

Speaking of,

I wonder why there is way more hysteria over the coronavirus than some of the other “scares” we have had in the recent past. You bring up SARS. That’s a good example. I don’t recall events all of the world from every industry being shut down for that and from what I remember that was way more deadly than the coronavirus.

Not saying that we shouldn’t take precautions just because one virus is more or less deadly than another but if one wasn’t aware of what was going on they would swear this coronavirus is comparable in scope to the plague.

@videogameninja: SARS may have been deadlier, but for some reason it was contained faster (did not spread as much). Population was smaller back then as well, and news coverage was left (if only b/c 2003 was the pregnancy days of social media; it was in the wild but not taken off yet).

@videogameninja: The community spread of CV19 dwarfs that of SARS. SARS spread world wide in a matter of months. CV19 has spread world wide in a matter of days. Also, a vaccine was developed quickly to contain SARS where experts at the CDC are saying that we're at least 7 months away from a true vaccine due to the fact that we don't have the original strain of CV19. CV19 was developed to survive on surfaces longer than the average virus too. Unfortunately, we weren't ready. Whether or not that's true or an illusion broadcast to cover up population control is yet to be seen but who knows.

Also (if you follow the news), the employees of that retirement facility in WA were not tested or quarantined when the now 19 residence were exposed and died.

How many of those employees traveled to local Walmarts or Targets is unknown?

Also, symptoms of SARS were almost immediate. Being that CV19 is smarter than the average virus, you could be travelling with this thing for up to a month and a half before you see signs. What does that mean for the general populous you might ask? Community spread will almost always go unknown like an assassin lurking in the shadows.

-HOW'S THAT FOR NINJA APPROVED...APPROVED-

I suggest doing what I did. I've stocked enough food, water, over the counter AND prescription meds to last for 3 months. Currently the meds being used to counter the effects of CV19 renders the immune system almost useless against a second attack so if you catch it again...you're fucked!!!

Everyone (men, women, children) are at risk but the elderly, those with weak immune systems and high blood pressure are especially at risk. I hope this helps you understand the scope of this situation my friend. Please, don't take this warning lightly.

@videogameninja: I wonder if modern technology has something to do with the hysteria. When SARS hit we didn't have social media and accessible internet like we do now which is resulting in more people getting the news faster and more people freaking out.

Of course this is also far more wide spread than SARS was so the hightened attention does make sense. Still though you would think the virus is nearly a death sentence with the hysteria. From everything I hear the symptoms seem like they're no worse than a bad cold. Makes me think if people are just smart and take care of themselves they should be ok, but I'm no doctor so I'm really speaking out of my ass here.

This whole Coronavirus pandemic is leading me to believe Sony’s not going to be able to launch by November.

Really impressed MS is dropping more info goodies over and over. They could really take advantage of this for their series X launch if their production isn’t as hampered by the Coronavirus.

@SebTheGreat: I would imagine the cost of moving production would be absolutely insane though. For Sony the rumored cost of actual parts being around $450 would be a hard hit.

Well either way hoping it still launches. Next winter Coronavirus is probably going to be worse. Maybe it’ll help sales given people might be going out and about less. Will be interesting.

@jumalan75: the consoles are using very similar parts. If Sony is having cost and production issues there's a good chance MS would be facing similar problems.

@SebTheGreat: Except it's not just China. The majority of SSD manufacturing is in South Korea and has been shut down as well. It's easy to say just move out of China and the manufacturing problem is solved, but in truth it really isn't that easy. Parts manufacturing in various countries all around the world is being hit pretty hard right now and could cause all sorts of problems if it remains heavily impacted for a few months.
