Earthbound has remained in the top 5 of my all time favorite RPGs for well over a decade now, and even though I still own my original SNES package with the player's guide and scratch n sniff stickers, I can't tell you how hard I'll be buying this once it goes up.

Even if it's a slight tip in favor of getting some kind of release of the GBA game, original NES game, and any other potential installments in the series outside of Japan, it's money well spent in my opinion. To me, this series is a definitive example of the awesomeness that can be had when game designers take a chance at doing something completely opposite of whats to be expected.

@DinoBuster So you own a physical copy of earthbound and a snes but you are going to pay for this "rehash"?...no hope for nintendo with a fanbase like this...

@torrne667 @DinoBuster I have a vested interest in the game series in question. Notice how I don't even mention "Nintendo" in my comment. Not only do I own a SNES, Wii, and Wii-U, but I own all three generations of Playstations, and both Xboxs as an example. The reason for this? I like to play games, and have no particular loyalty to any one of the front running console companies. If you want my money, release games I want to play and see more of and you'll get it. be your product on a Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo platform. Read and comprehend my friend. We all aren't mindless fanboys. Some of us appreciate games.

@DinoBuster @torrne667 never said you were a fanboy..just basically said that if people keep buying shit they dont need/did years ago...nintendo will keep churning it out by the shovel load.

I have just one question. Why is it so hard to just merge The Wiis VC store to the Wii Us VC store. All they really do on the Wii U VC is give these games a new fancy interface and a Miiverse portal. Or I'll stop complaining when I get Castlevennia Rondo of blood on the Wii U VC. Yes I know the Wii U has a Wii chip in and I can switch between the 2 systems environment But I just got back into retro gaming and I don't have that much titles on the Wiis VC at the first place. I just find it a hassle to manage 2 different accounts on the same system . So I'll just wait I know the Wii U Vc is going to get all the Wii VC titles anyway. But I feel that this process could have been done way faster, like at launch day.

@baxwam I assume the issue is the controller and onscreen gamepad play. Wii's virtual console required the Wii gamepad for most games and full access to the TV screen. Having to purchase a Wii gamepad would be huge turn off, especially for people that have already shelled out for the Wii-U wireless controller.

@gregrout actually That is what I meant by interface the onscreen play. after that there really should be any issue. The new interface it self is bigger in memory size then a lot of the VC games

@baxwam @gregrout I'm not a big fan of the Wii integration on the Wii-U. It's such a big production switching between the Wii-U and Wii, that I wish I didn't bother transferring the data from my Wii to Wii-U. I'm about 99.99999% sure I'm going to repurchase the same titles from the Wii-U Virtual Console. Being able to play on the GamePad screen and use the Gamepad controller is a huge perk for me.

Nintendo needs to release more than crappy GameBoy games on the 3DS.

If earthbound was on 3DS I'd buy the system in heartbeat. Can't say the same about the Wii U.

I'd rather play this on the 3DS. It certainly can handle it. Anyway, Nintendo is too late to the party with this one as I just played through it last year through Wiibrew.

Going to download this to see what all the fuss is about, many classic JRPGs that I've missed out on (to put into perspective, Final Fantasy VII was the earliest JRPG I ever played).

@abHS4L88 Then you have a lot of catching up to do! ^_^ I'd recommend (besides those you mentioned on your reply to Dezuria) on this order:
- Secret of Mana (SNES - play local co-op with two friends)
- Phantasy Star IV (Genesis)
- Lunar: The Silver Star (originally for SEGA CD, there are lots and lots of remakes and a played a couple of 'em, but the SEGA CD one is still my favourite)
- Shinning Force II (Genesis)
- Wild ARMs (for PS1, so you may already know about this one)
- Azel: Panzer Dragoon Saga (very rare and, as far as I know, only available for Saturn. I still have it, but I admit it's pretty hard for most people to be able to play it nowadays)
- Lunar: The Eternal Blue (same as the first Lunar)
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
- Phantasy Star (for Master System. Its first-person dungeons are devilish hard if you don't cheat and get a map on some website. I remember I had to create the maps myself using pen and a notebook)

I've heard of all of those games and while Secret of Mana had my interest, having to play with someone is a turn off since I honestly don't really have anyone to play with locally. There is my sister but we hardly see each other nowadays since she works when I'm home and vice versa.

I think the only other one that you listed that has had my interest is Super Mario RPG.

Man, it sucks that SEGA is but a mere shadow of its former self, they had some pretty killer games, especially in the JRPG department, I'm still hoping for a Panzer Dragoon and Skies of Arcadia sequel.

@abHS4L88 @snxx You don't need to play Secret of Mana multiplayer. It's perfectly fine to play it alone.

I'm aware, don't worry. Next time GameStop has a "Buy 2 get 1 Free" DS sale, I plan on getting Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IV and Dragon Quest V.

@GSJones1994 @abHS4L88 There were quite a few way harder JRPGs before Final Fantasy VII (which has a pretty standard difficulty. The problem is that the average games are becoming increasingly easier with each console generation...

VERY true, when I played Mass Effect, only time I was challenged was during boss fights later in the game, enemies were easily defeated through your special abilities. The only shooter I found difficult was Vanquish. Even Assassin's Creed has been toning down the difficulty with each new entry with AC3 being really dumbed down compared to the Ezio saga. I've only really found Japanese developers and Indie developers retaining high difficulty in their games.

My brother and I didn't find it difficult, it just required a CRAP ton of effort to get the Golden Chocobo so we could get Knights of Round which made the game MUCH easier after, haha.

@GSJones1994 @abHS4L88 Want a hard jrpg? Try 7th Saga. ;) Or from the PS1 era, Persona 2.

FF7 isn't hard at all. Well, compared to today's games I suppose it is.

Some of these people are going NUTS over this, as if we couldn't play it on an emulator whenever we wanted.

It is a great game though, I bought it when it first came out. It came in a big box with a guide that had scratch and sniff stickers.

@Fiscaldeal @ultramega9 As the guy above me said, the SNES game is not rare, maybe uncommon, but not rare. Back in 1995 Nintendo had high hopes for this game and pressed many copies of it for retailers. This game was loved by critics and the few people that bought it, but due to various issues with advertising and competition with other big RPGs around that time (Chrono Trigger, FF3) it sold relatively poorly. I've read accounts of this game being put in the clearance bins at Walmarts and KMarts for $10 in 96 and 97. What has driven the price up in the collectibility of RPGs on the SNES and it's critical acclaim.

@Fiscaldeal @ultramega9 The cart isn't really rare. It's was just expensive because EarthBound wouldn't be ported to other consoles due to copyright issues.

@Dezuria @Mellowcow I love that game. But at the same time if they put it on VC they should not tamper with it like NOA loves to do.I feel games like Terrernigama and Sweet Home are timeless because NOA did not localized them and tone it them waaay down or it'll just ruin the original experience that player was suppose to have.
