Nintendo sells 1.5M systems over Thanksgiving

@lock445 nintendos aging hardware isnt what sells games. Its nintendos games. xbox 360 is dated(maybe not as bad) but people want to play games on Wii/DS, they both have a great library of games for everyone. I've never understood why people hate on that.

Can Nintendo not use their bazillion dollars to make a new HD console?

Nintendo magic. And even when Move and Kinect are available...just incredible that Nintendo still manages to co-erse families into buying their aging hardware.

@squidracerX Wii is a different story, but i don't think it's necessary to have every console, kind of a waste of money. I had all three and I bought the same game for both xbox and PS3 because i wanted to play with different friends. I recently sold my Wii and Xbox and kept the PS3. I'll admit I really wanted to play Halo: Reach, but all 3 systems got a bit ridiculous.

Yeah fanboyism isn't exclusive but man I do believe that ps3 fans wrote the book on it. All this week and many times before if the Sony exclusive doesn't get a 9/10 or higher whaa whaa Microsoft paid them off bla bla bla f this site f that site they ne to review it again. @Nuk1euz - i disagree, especially with 10 year console life spans this generation, most people I know have 2 or 3 of the major consoles already (Xbox, PS3, Wii, PC/MAC), almost everyone i know has either a PS3 or Xbox, but also has a Wii and a PC, (for games like WoW, Starcraft 2 of Left 4 Dead 2). Give it a couple more years and price cuts, i bet most of my "gaming friends" will own all 4 ways to play games. Not to mention most of them have an iphone, DS, or PSP (I don't). So most of us own many consoles compared to when I was a kid and you either owned an SNES or a Genesis and maybe a game boy (most PCs were non-existant as game machines), and only super rich kids had both. We are just so much more tech savvy now, and our machines are all linked up and multifunctional. PS3 is also blu-ray, iphone is games and phone and can stream movies off the MAC at home, your Wii plays Netflix, etc... Its harder to not find use for any console.

@Rahnyc4 - So yeah, looking at the games i want for Xmas (which is most of my Xmas list), why you wouldn't WANT any of the consoles is nutso to me! Maybe you cant afford them, but that's different from want. For Xmas I want to pick up Limbo on Xbox Live and probably Pac Man there as well, Horde and Dead Nation on PS3 PSN, Kirby on Wii, and i just bought a ton of stuff off Steam on PC. I also asked for Assassins Creed Brotherhood and i think I will get on PS3 since it has a free exclusive bonus level. But man I couldn't imagine being limited to one console this generation! To many great games all over the place!

low price+family friendly+nostalgia=great gift idea=high holiday sales=duh!

@squidracerX The day everyone has every console and plays all the cool games will never come, unless they charge less for the console and for the games. Its greed. The CEO doesnt want a 2 million dollar salary, he wants a 20 million dollar salary.

I just think its really funny how upset people get when Nintendo does well. that's why i really read these articles.

@Rahnyc4 - really? you feel disappointed for buying a ps3? Do you really even own one? i mean if you are a real gamer (and a real gamer wants to play all the cool looking games regardless of platform), then on the PS3 alone this year, (besides the cross platform games), you have Little Big Planet 2, Infamous 2, Killzone 3, Last Guardian, a bunch of Move and PSN stuff, rumor is on Dec 12th they will announce Uncharted 3, the ICO collection.... And there is always unannounced stuff as well. Plus its still a blu-ray player and i have a different one of my consoles in each TV room so i can watch netflix in any room. So why you would regret the machine is beyond me? This will be one of the best line ups for Sony yet. Plus from last year you still have GT5, Heavy Rain, God of War 3 etc that you might not have gotten to play yet. How could you possibly not want to be able to play all of those games? Xbox has only announced gears 3 and Kinect stuff so far. But i bet you aren't complaining there? I am happy with all of my game consoles (even though i don't really play my Wii much i am still excited about Kirbys Epic yarn which I want for Xmas!). I for one wish everyone could own every console, then we could all play the really cool games that come out. And it would end fanboy stuff. Right now i am only limited by my PC being kinda old... I need money to get that up to snuff and I will be set for any game that comes out :) No DS or PSP for me though.

Isn't the 3DS coming out soon? I'm surprised people aren't waiting for that instead of opting to go with the DSi.

i don't care about wii anymore and theres still people saying wow i gotta haave the reeed one wow really its people like that, that make me throw up in my mouth how about save your money and not buy a wii so the new one comes out faster... do you really need a ps2 with motion controlls that BAD?! the wii gets boring fast hate to say it no live equals friend codes pffftt gayyy

I'm surprised how many people bought DS's. Don't they know that the 3DS is coming out early next year?

I really wonder how many parents and kids know about the 3DS. It doesn't seem to be stopping sales.

@maximumbarmage Wow, someone has some console insecurity issues. Because gamespot posted a single news article saying an analyst firm thinks PS3 could overtake 360's sales by 2012 does not mean the industry as a whole thinks that. For this generation atleast Sony will be taking a firm backseat to the other two companies in terms of sales. Being delusional doesn't change that. Also, Kinect has been a huge success for Microsoft.

I already got a DSi and i barely use it. 40 bucks per game is too much for my taste, 20 bucks more gets me a PS3 game, i can get used PS3 games for 15-40 bucks. With the Anti-Scratch blu-ray discs that PS3 uses, used games are almost like buying brand new games. But i think ill save up money for a 3DS, i want to see how this 3D thing is and the 3D game releases are pretty promising from what i saw.

Hiroo4 welcome to 2010, where you dont have to waggle your arms in every wii game. your argument would of stand back in 2007 or so, but this is a new era of wii games that dont require hard full gestures.

The one thing i saw while shopping at best buy on friday were 4 wii's sold. each red and white. The funny part: asians bought them i kid u not only asians bought them. I thought everyone had one already but who knew

I own a Wii. Can't stand it. I really tried to get into "gameplay over graphics" but I soon realized the whole thing was a gimmick. Wagging my arms just doesn't do it for me I guess. Feels arbitrary and unneccesary in the end. MotionPlus, okay 1:1 controls... but do I really want to sit through an entire Zelda adventure with my arms held up like I'm using a sword? When can I just sit back and eat some Potato chips?

Sony fanboys are the most delusional fanboys out there. Why because they believe everything that Sony tells them, they are usually not hardcore gamers, and if Sony say it its true it must be true, right fanboys.

They could continue this next year as well. Like releasing certain colors in connection with each one of their mascots. For next year, they could do a green Wii themed around Zelda. A shame they couldn't go ahead and just release all the colors, but that's just the fan in me speaking. Of course, from a business point of view, what they are doing now makes the most sense.

I think it's time to get mine. If only they slashed the price a little more. I'm surprised to see PS3 number, but if they launch a retrocompatibility model, I'll add a number. LET ME DREAM!

having a deal at Toys R Us helps too. Atleast at my Toys if you buy a 29.99 game you get the DSi for 109.

I am starting to see why Nintendo didn't bother going with anything but white only in the U.S. Give it a couple years, get your spray paint out of the garage, and throw in one more free game that's been out for a full year, and your sales skyrocket during the holidays :P

@ricardo-sene I'm not too surprised. Wii, DSi, 360 all had major sales prices, or at least recent price changes or a new feature (Kinect). PS3 remained at the same price, with additions to the console if you get it, like two free games or similar.

There was no major incentive to get a PS3 just because it had a couple bonuses. 4GB 360 at only $200, DS Lite for only 80 bucks...it makes total sense.

Its really to bad that the wii is so outdated already!!! Nintendo knows how to sell but they really need to put all the money they make and learn how to make up to date graphics, thats the main thing I don't like about my wii. Even putting it out on an hd tv with hd cables makes it actually look worse.

Like everyone else below.. I'm also surprised by the PS3 numbers... About Nintendo, there's nothing much to say... The Wii has 9 milhões more than the next rival console (360) with one year less in the market... The DS has 22 milions more than the most near company's rival (Microsoft) with 22 milions more sold... and 25 milions more than the rival portable (PSP). And Nintendo sold 51 milions more hardware than they most near rival (microsoft). That's a great performance, speaking into the business area..Indeed
