No Current Plans For PS5, Xbox Series X Versions Of Cyberpunk 2077, Says CD Projekt Red

Which doesn't mean next-gen ports won't be made--they're just not being planned right now.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed, but the game is still only scheduled to release for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Google Stadia. Even though the new launch date is much closer to the scheduled release window for both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, CD Projekt Red has revealed that there are no current plans to develop Cyberpunk 2077 as a cross-generation game.

"As of right now, Cyberpunk is heading for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the PC. Nothing has changed in regard to those plans," CD Projekt Red CFO Piotr Nielubowicz said on a teleconference call held to address questions about the new release date.

Now Playing: Cyberpunk 2077 Just Got Delayed - GS News Update

"We are going with the same plans that we set," CD Projekt Red joint CEO Adam Kiciński reiterated. "[Cyberpunk 2077] was always designed for [PS4 and Xbox One]. We are thinking about the next generation, but for now, we are focused on the current generation. That plan is still valid."

That said, in a previous financial report, according to Wccftech, Kiciński said, "If there is an opportunity for us to launch Cyberpunk for another generation, we would want to do this probably." So there's still a fairly strong possibility of Xbox Series X and PS5 versions of Cyberpunk 2077 being made, even if there are no plans to do so right now.

CD Projekt Red isn't worried that it is releasing the game when newer, more powerful consoles are available, even during one of the busiest times of the year for game launches. "We believe that our game--a big single-player RPG with a great story--will find its place in the market regardless of the date," CD Projekt Red board member of SVP business development Michał Nowakowski said.

"There's always something happening no matter what time of the year you're looking at. The games industry is not an industry where you can say that any given month is safer for whatever reason. So in that regard, we don't see September as more threatening than April or June," Nielubowicz added.

Though, obviously, no scheduled release date for a video game is set in stone, CD Projekt Red is confident that Cyberpunk 2077 will hit its new release date and not need to be delayed again. "Yeah, we pretty much know and understand what aspects of the game still require work," Nowakowski said.

Cyberpunk 2077 will run on PS5, since PS5 is backwards compatible with all PS4 games.

So there are no plans (yet) for a remastered version.

PS5 will be backwards compatible. so.. if within 6 weeks of PS5 release people ask for patch that has cyberpunk use the full power of the ps5, then sure. But if not they're just gonna blag a re-release, so I'll be waiting to buy till then.

We've waited this long.

well, i guess if all of the next gen consoles are backwards compatible, it won't be a problem... i most probably will delay the purchase of this game until the new consoles arrive, since they'll be more powerful and everything'll run smoother, the game is already 4k... :)

Everyone knows it will be on ps5, i dont blame RED for "denial" its good business.

It'll be a while if it does arrive on ps5 anyway

I wasn't even expecting Cyberpunk 2077 coming to PS5/Xbox Series X anyways. At least on PC, it'll be the center masterpiece for generations.

@davillain-: It's obviously coming to PS5/Xbox, but he doesn't want to hurt the current gen sales so he has to say this... rude, but understandable..

@livedreamplay: Now now, I distinctly remember that CD Projekt RED didn't even feel like making any upgrades to the Witcher 3 for newer consoles because they didn't see it as important. They'd moved to working on newer projects like this one and others - then came the outcry from gamers.

@lonesamurai00: I get where your aim is but I think this scenario is a tad different. In one case you had a game that was released for a year and a half and what came up was a an upgrade to the existing console. Now you have a game that will have been released for 1 month and what will be coming up is a brand new generation of consoles... Doubt they'll ignore this difference, but time will tell.

@livedreamplay: They probably will, but sometime next year I'll bet. There's no guarantee though. I mean you know how devs see consoles in cases like this, not the same way they do Gaming PCs.

@livedreamplay: If they upgrade the game for graphics, it likely won't be until 2021. Developers don't generally think of consoles in terms of graphical prowess. They generally develop for what they deem acceptable for each platform. Some play it safe and make games that are 1080p across both PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. Some don't want to take risks with bad performance.

PC however, first and foremost a slew of graphical options must be available, secondly keyboard and mouse support is a must. If devs don't do this, then they know that they will hear about it on Steam reviews, and every PC Gaming related site and platform. Some Japanese devs are the only ones who are still learning this, but western devs have all known this for an ice age now.

@lonesamurai00: Makes sense, usually. For example I could've understood not bothering bump the game up between PS4 and PS4 Pro. But now the difference is pretty big, or at least those are the rumors, so I don't know if they don't have to lose by having just the old version.

@livedreamplay: Then you have to factor in the fact that where GPUs are concerned, AMD doesn't even compete on the high end. The area of improvement for the upcoming consoles are CPU and storage.

The upcoming consoles will be much like last gen in that things will be faked in very specialized way the same way that checkerboard rendering and dynamic scaling are used to attain a certain look and performance for the games on consoles. The problem as always will be that ultimately (as with current gen) it will be up to each developer ho-w they want to present their games on each console.

The best use of each console will again, come from the home developers of each company. They designed and built the hardware and know it better than anyone else, which is why The Witcher 3 was so miserable on current consoles but first-party stuff was so well done.

@lonesamurai00: AMD doesn't compete? Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of AMD either, but a RTX2080 equivalent(as it's rumored) will be a major improvement from the current.

@livedreamplay: If you're talking about on Xbox, I'm hearing more RTX 2070 equivalent comparison, but even that is in question. AMDs newest GPU doesn't even match the power of an RTX 2070, it's slated instead to compete with the RTX 2060 Super, but may be better with some very tricky firmware update.

The word on the street is that the newer consoles (X box Series X especially) will have a more powerful GPU than anything released by AMD on the PC in 2019.... thank god for Nvidia on the desktop side of things. We'll see how it all shakes out.

Hes is lying. Doesn't want to hurt release date sales, which will happen anyway as im sure alot of people will want it to run smother and load quicker on next gen consoles. Every last gen game will work on the series x anyway.

If that's the case I'll wait for the next gen version. Outside of a few games I'm completely done buying anymore games for this current gen. Bring it on Series X/PS5 or go home.

@FlameVegaXV: Same. When it comes to triple AAA big budget games this gen is done for me. I'll still buy the smaller indie games.

I have never played a cyberpunk game at all so, I was going to buy this for my PC build if it comes to PC. Other than that if you own a console and want to play it with next gen looking graphic I suggest you just buy it on PC if comes out on PC.

Doubt it will be a huge deal. With both consoles promising full backwards compatibility with current-gen, who knows how meaningful the distinction will be, between different-gen versions of games.

Could be that they release a minor graphics update for the next-gen consoles and not much beyond that.

@Spartan_418: I think they will probably just use a dynamic resolution for Xbox one X as it is so they will just change the parameters to 4k output and either unlock the framerate or lock it to 60 for Xbox series X. It wouldn't be much work for them to do. However delaying to just before launch they can be sure of no last minute surprises to power targets from Sony and Microsoft so that is my guess as to the timing of the delay.

I think we would all be shocked if Cyberpunk didn’t make its way to the next gen in some form later down the line. In fact, a good argument could be made for most big name games releasing around this time.

I wouldn’t doubt that TLOU 2 is going to be utilizing a similar strategy after it drops.

I just hope the PS5 & the X box Series X don’t end up becoming massive port consoles.

-NOT THAT THERE’S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT/SEINFELD APPROVED-

Of course they do...even if it's just in patch form because they just can't help themselves when it comes to making their games look and run better. Still, safer to say not for now because it's releasing even closer to the new machines than it was and they want people to buy it then...not wait and see if there's a beefed up version coming. To be fair, I honestly think they'll just upgrade it for free...that's pretty much the CDPR way.

Tbh at this point I feel like it would of been better to just release the game with next gen consoles. IRather them just release it cross gen for everyone and make sure the Xbox series X and PS5 version are amazing well

WIth PS5 and Xbox backwards compatibility, this seems like a non-issue.

It's not like the game can't be patched for next-gen optimization.

@Renunciation: There are games where the next-gen version is just a graphical touch-up and there are games where even levels, physics, AI and other stuff are different.

Cyberpunk puts itself in a tricky spot. It might end up the best game of this console gen, but in less than a year (probably) it will be against games capable of using much superior hardware. Often games around console release are crappier, but still.

A year is still ok time to make the money, but they really don't have much delay room left

@PrpleTrtleBuBum: I won't say much, because you are clearly aware of the quality trends that occur with the beginning and end of console cycles.

Even saying "It is an interesting situation, I'll keep an eye on it" would be a bit silly, as if gaming news can be read without noticing the big headlines for Cyberpunk and the next-gen consoles. Compulsory information.

I assume this to mean it's not on their official roadmap, but might be added later. Meaning they haven't allocated future resources to it yet.

I expect to see this game on next-gen consoles at some point.
