No Current Plans For PS5, Xbox Series X Versions Of Cyberpunk 2077, Says CD Projekt Red

Which doesn't mean next-gen ports won't be made--they're just not being planned right now.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed, but the game is still only scheduled to release for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Google Stadia. Even though the new launch date is much closer to the scheduled release window for both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, CD Projekt Red has revealed that there are no current plans to develop Cyberpunk 2077 as a cross-generation game.

"As of right now, Cyberpunk is heading for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the PC. Nothing has changed in regard to those plans," CD Projekt Red CFO Piotr Nielubowicz said on a teleconference call held to address questions about the new release date.

Now Playing: Cyberpunk 2077 Just Got Delayed - GS News Update

"We are going with the same plans that we set," CD Projekt Red joint CEO Adam Kiciński reiterated. "[Cyberpunk 2077] was always designed for [PS4 and Xbox One]. We are thinking about the next generation, but for now, we are focused on the current generation. That plan is still valid."

That said, in a previous financial report, according to Wccftech, Kiciński said, "If there is an opportunity for us to launch Cyberpunk for another generation, we would want to do this probably." So there's still a fairly strong possibility of Xbox Series X and PS5 versions of Cyberpunk 2077 being made, even if there are no plans to do so right now.

CD Projekt Red isn't worried that it is releasing the game when newer, more powerful consoles are available, even during one of the busiest times of the year for game launches. "We believe that our game--a big single-player RPG with a great story--will find its place in the market regardless of the date," CD Projekt Red board member of SVP business development Michał Nowakowski said.

"There's always something happening no matter what time of the year you're looking at. The games industry is not an industry where you can say that any given month is safer for whatever reason. So in that regard, we don't see September as more threatening than April or June," Nielubowicz added.

Though, obviously, no scheduled release date for a video game is set in stone, CD Projekt Red is confident that Cyberpunk 2077 will hit its new release date and not need to be delayed again. "Yeah, we pretty much know and understand what aspects of the game still require work," Nowakowski said.

They are going to downgrade this game just like the Witcher 3.

@warmblur: It will be ok on Xbox one X but i'll hold off for Series X now anyway . At worst it is fully compatible and will run better. Likely a dynamic resolution on Xbox one X anyway so that works in the series X's favour to improve it.

Expect a Ray tracing patch down the track though.

It's kinda B.s .. as much as I love them.. this is just being said to not hurt sales... even I was considering waiting for the ps5 version but too scared of spoilers. I hope that they just release a patch for it when its played on the ps4 to maybe atleast upgrade a bit. But sadly I will prolly double dip

@mistertech: Mr.Tech I got a couple examples of why you shouldn't fear spoilers.

*Large games that aren't straight story driven tend to not get spoiled in open ended article headers etc.

Like Fallout 4,,WItcher3,Skyrim and whatevs..

the closest will probably be this boss or that quest for this item/weapon..

~I didn't play Witcher 3 for 2 months and didin't get spoiled & I read gaming news everyday.

But I feel ya if you're wanting to post in Cyberpunk forums and stay spoilerFree..

did you buy GTAV & TLOU at the end of last gen>?

imo we will all get it current gen after reading how awesome it is ;D

@mistertech: It depends on how they handle cross gen. They should be able to get better visuals and higher FPS on the next gen consoles just by moving some sliders around since there is already a PC version, but I am afraid they are going to leave it with absolutely no enhancements on the new consoles so they can sell a next gen version holiday 2021. If they go down that road, I wonder if they will also gut the PC version to also sell them an enhanced version in 2021.

@azalis: CDPR don't tend to do things like that though. The only enhanced version they have truly done was for the original Witcher on PC. Otherwise it was just patches for Pro and X and not a completely new version.

Expect just patches for PS5 and Xbox series X but they could still be quite significant considering you could be looking at double the framerate and possibly double the resolution or at least 4k dynamic.

@deviltaz35: fair enough but then again CDP[R has never been in this unique financial position b4..

They never knew success like they did post Witcher3.

They did say "we'll leave greed to others"

but I don't believe they will lose money.

It doesn't make sense financially to not release a "new uber edition full retail version for the new consoles like dude said...

what would you do itf you were calling their shots?

@sippio: I consider anything outside of the trailer a spoiler. I dont want cameos, special weapons, areas, etc in headlines, gamespot has spoilers in titles constantly.. actually one of the reasons I dont come here often anymore. I've been burned too much lol. I even remember... SPOILERS AHEAD FOR STAR WARS SOLO!!! When they put a picture of a certain villain on the main pic of the article when the movie was out.... and I think it was ine of the coolest parts of that movie... just hate the clickbait.. so .. yes I'll double dip.
