Octopath Traveler 2 Confirmed During Nintendo Direct, Releasing February 24
The next core installment in the Octopath saga has been revealed.
During today's Nintendo Direct, Square Enix revealed Octopath Traveler II, a brand-new game in the Octopath saga, which is due to release February 24 on Nintendo Switch.
The game will be set in the world of Solistia, a world of two massive continents separated by a great sea. The story of Octopath Traveler II will once again feature eight unique travelers with intertwining stories, with some paths differing depending on whether they're being explored during the day or at night. The eight heroes' names, according to the Square Enix blog, are as follows:
- Hikari, a Warrior
- Agnea, a Dancer
- Partitio, a Merchant
- Osvald, a Scholar
- Throné, a Thief
- Temenos, a Cleric
- Ochette, a Hunter
- Castti, an Apothecary
Octopath Traveler II will once again employ the HD/2D graphics style that originated with the first Octopath game in 2018, and has since been employed by Triangle Strategy and the recent Live A Live remake. This new Octopath game is also confirmed to have no story connection to the previous titles, meaning new players will be able to jump in with no issue. However, the Break and Boost battle system from the first game will return, so players can still prepare for the sequel if they so choose.
Octopath Traveler II will tell a new story in the growing Octopath universe when it launches February 24 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. A Collector's Edition has also been announced, which will include an art book, a soundtrack, and miniature busts of all eight playable characters for $180.
