[UPDATE] The Pokemon Company has confirmed more Pokemon are coming to Pokemon Go. They will be revealed on Monday, December 12.
The original story is below.
Pokemon Go may be about to get new monsters, according to a leak from Starbucks.
In a memo to employees regarding a new promotion, the coffee chain states, "The world of Pokemon Go is about to expand with new Pokemon." The note, which was highlighted by Reddit user alturrisi, goes on to say the hit game will get an update on Thursday, December 8--presumably any new Pokemon will arrive in that very update.
Data miners recently uncovered that Pokemon Go holds files for Johto region (Pokemon Gold and Silver) monsters deep within its code, despite them not being available in the wild right now. It remains to be seen whether these new Pokemon are indeed those 100 gen 2 critters.
The Starbucks promotion turns the majority of the chain's coffee shops in the US into PokeStops or Pokemon Gyms. There will also be a special Pokemon-themed frappuccino on offer.
The most recent monster to be added to Pokemon Go was Ditto, and the game's Nearby feature has finally returned in the last two weeks. We also know there is a connection between Pokemon Sun and Moon and Pokemon Go in the works. For more on the hit critter-collecting series, check out our Pokemon Sun and Moon review.
