PS4-Exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn Delayed Until 2017

Now coming in February.

Killzone developer Guerrilla Games' next game, the PlayStation 4-exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn, won't make it out this year as previously expected. Sony announced today on the PlayStation Blog that the game is now slated to arrive on February 28, 2017.

"It wasn't an easy choice to make; we know many of you have been anxious to play the game since we first announced it," Guerrilla managing director Hermen Hulst said. "However, we also want to ensure that Horizon Zero Dawn lives up to the visuals and gameplay quality that our games are known for. The new date affords us the extra time required to deliver fully on our ambitious vision for Horizon Zero Dawn."

Hulst went on to say he knows the delay "may not please everyone," but stressed that it's in the best interest of the game.

"We're confident that the advantages of the additional development time afforded by the new date will become clear in the coming months. We really, really appreciate your patience and continued support, and look forward to bringing you the best game we possibly can in February 2017."

Announced at E3 2015, the ambitious-sounding Horizon Zero Dawn has a full day/night cycle and players will get to explore forests, mountains, and "atmospheric ruins of a bygone civilization." There are also robot dinosaurs; the one in the poster is apparently called "Thunderjaw." Sony has also said Aloy was inspired by female leads in franchises such as Terminator and Game of Thrones.

Additionally, Zero Dawn will not have a multiplayer mode, though the game will have "certain social features in there" that will be announced later.

Sony is already advertising Horizon Zero Dawn with a massive billboard at E3 2016, so we'd imagine it may factor into Sony's E3 2016 briefing next week in some capacity.

@Moonco: im still waiting.....i have had my PS4 unplugged for almost 8 months now because of the lack of games only on PS4.....if it comes out for PC and PS4 the only place i will play it is PC.......

Whelp... Guess I can delay purchasing a PS4 for a little while longer. Hopefully it'll drop even lower in price with this Neo nonsense incoming.

And for anyone worried that Playstation is having another Fall devoid of a 1st party AAA IP, don't be. Even if the new GOW and The Last Guardian don't make 2016, this thing will still sell like hotcakes. Who knows, maybe we'll see another hidden gem like Until Dawn get it's chance in the Fall spotlight.

@Neubmann: yeah i have nothing that would make me plug in my PS4 and have not had anything to play on it for 8 months now......if its on PC i play it there.....i wont waste the money on a console version.....so the PS4 has been unplugged for 8 months now.....

@muppetbabymastr: Best wait for Sony to announce Neo after E3 and then see if you want the upgrade version or not. love my Launch PS4 and have no intention to upgrade anyways, I'm cool what I have. If I wanted raw power, I got my PC for that kind of thing.

@muppetbabymastr: already seen PS4's with games for 150 used on craigslist.......i got mine for 200 bucks used about 3 months after it came out......if you have a PC they only reason to get the system is PS4 only games.....hints the reason mine has been unplugged for 8 months....

@gamingdevil800: Umm... it's not exactly a "worry". More companies need to delay games as needed to ensure the game is actually FINISHED and PLAYABLE. I'm really sick and tired of people actually settling for less because some developers choose to stick to a deadline instead of giving themselves more time to deliver a product that is complete and fully playable for a $60 release.

Quit bitching. Delays are for the better.

@Xirtahm: Delays are really not good for anybody. Developers should definitely take the time they need to make it, but don't announce the game until your really ready for a release window or date. The publishers will spend a ton of money marketing the game for that release date and all the delay does it waste that money already spent (and they now have to spend even more money marketing that game), make the developer not look reliable, piss off the gaming community and could kill off some hype for the game. Again, I'm all for developers taking their time and not rushing something out, but don't give us a release date until you are clearly ready.

I'm not surprise and I'm cool with the delay since February 2017 isn't so bad at all and I got massive backlog of games I still need to play and finish up anyways, so not much of a lost cause.

@playstationzone: over watched dog turds looked done in the videos.......made me be heard from a far, crying in boredom 4 looked done as well.......what about titan FAILED??? did it look done??.....oh and one last one just for fun.....what about half done battlefront filled with turds??? was that one done with no single player and half the map count as the second one made 10 years ago???......but yeah just because it looks done in the video it should be a playable game.....SAID NO ONE EVER!!!!.......yeah if you did not fell it that was your balls being busted.....
