PS4 Getting "Unprecedented Rush" of Big Games in 2016, Exec Says

Sony has high hopes for next year.

2016 will bring an "unprecedented rush" of big games for PlayStation 4 that, along with PlayStation VR, will combine for a package so compelling that system sales are likely to grow even further. That's according to PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida, who said in an interview with 4Gamer (via DualShockers) that 2016 is shaping up to be a banner year for the PS4.

"2016 marks an unprecedented rush of big titles for PS4," Yoshida said. "It's also the year of the long-awaited launch of PlayStation VR. It's the year PS4 users, and those who are on the fence on whether to buy it will absolutely think, 'It's good to have a PS4.' Please look forward to it."

Some of the big PS4 console exclusives for 2016 include Street Fighter V, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Gran Turismo Sport, and The Last Guardian. There are also going to be a number of big-name multiplatform games released on PS4 next year, of course.

Check out this gallery to see more of the biggest games coming in 2016.

In media interviews this year, PlayStation executives spoke openly about the PS4's "sparse" lineup of first-party games for 2015. Just this month, PlayStation boss Michael Ephraim acknowledged that Sony focused more on third-party relationships in 2015 in part because "our first-party lineup was not as a strong as we would have liked."

The PS4 enters 2016 as the best-selling new-generation console with sales in excess of 30 million units. For its part, Microsoft is also claiming that 2016 will be a huge year for Xbox games.

What do you make of the PS4's lineup for 2016? What are you looking forward to the most? Let us know in the comments below!

@jumalan75:

Not even close.

Maybe you liked waiting nearly 10 years for FFXIII versus (FFXV) and Last Guardian, but I certainly did not.

If there's a new Motorstorm game as good or better than the first game coming out, I'll get a ps4 just for that, it's got to go back to the dust and the mud and have all those cool elevation parts, bikes and buggies going up high and the mud pluggers and big rigs staying down low adding the extra danger of, if you fall down into the mud with a smaller vehicle, you munched by the bigger one, bonkers carnage =P

A split screen and tidy online mode would be great too.

Every time I entertain the idea of buying a PS4 I realise that I would rather spend my money on building an awesome gaming PC instead.

@Simulator_Shock: I have 108 games on my steam account which registers at 1600 bucks for full price value. I paid a little over 400 bucks for my games. You can look up your steam account purchases and sales. I also have purchased many games from humble bundle and on gog during sales. When I was buying console games and playing on my Wii, 360, and Ps3, I spent over 400 bucks on 15 games. PC gaming is ridiculously cheaper, I am not even counting the massively cheaper online ( free). PC is a slightly higher buy in but a MUCH cheaper platform for it's lifespan.

This doesn't account for all the other perks like, upgradability, backwards compatibility, Emulation, freedom to use any peripheral, and my god the mods... and the end-all, PERFORMANCE BASED ON YOUR BUDGET!!!

Remember the consoles are only a cheap buy in since you will be paying sony/MS a license fee for every game you purchase. They make all that cash back. And you are buying a system thats only as fast as the low tier CPU and GPUs on the market today ( 750ti and i3's)

@razeandjadith: @Simulator_Shock A good point he o/r she makes, it is definitely a good investment you can't argue that IF u have the money. However, I feel just as happy with all my gaming related investments. I guess I'm just not a one system/rig kinda guy. This is probably why i'm not married now that i think about it, because i love my women like i love my gaming -.-

@Simulator_Shock: While i do love PC gaming ( if i have the chance i'll usually go PC version of a game ) You really can't match the bargain if you're trying to be tight on the wallet. The PS4 is 300$ here in the USofA and the VR will prolly be a couple hundred or so im assuming, basically just my vid card (Asus Geforce GTX 960)was 250$ and that's a pretty damn good Vid Card i got a deal on and Motherboard another 80$ ( marked down it was originally like 120 or something) that's not even counting RAM, a CPU, Power Brick( i had one in my Puter graveyard), a HDD ( i already had a Hard Drive so saved there as well) and maybe even a case or lets say aftermarket CPU fan, etc. So while if u have the money sure do it, hell i did. But if u have a limit u can't match the PS4 for 300 bucks not to mention VR on my current computer will most likely not run well, and my rig can handle the best of current games rather well, As far as VR on PC what are we ( PC gamers ) getting anyway the Oculus? The Visus...iblue or an AMD or Nvidia Version... at what cost? So don't expect to just lets say take your PS4 funds and be able to get a gaming PC ( VR ready or not for that matter ) for close the budget. Just try to entertain the idea of perhaps cutting ur cost in half, cost really not an issue realise you know i can grab a Console ( PS4 or Xboxone ) and a 50 inch to go with it for probably less than it would be to build a good gaming rig, sure u can cut ur cost if ur building a half way decent gaming rig, and let it be known i'm not trying to discourage you from gaming on PC, I've been PC gaming as long as i have been playing consoles ( about 20 years ), I'm just trying let u know as an owner of many PC's and a PS4 (gonna pick up an Xbox one this year) that if you're trying to get the most bang for your buck, realistically entertain the idea of a PS4.

I am hoping Horizon zero dawn will be good enough to expand my ever growing library of ps4 titles to... 2 games.

I think both MS and Sony are greatly over estimating the demand for VR much like the move, and the kinnect. They see a gimmick and must jump on it. While I would like to atleast try it ( a demo at best buy or something is the only thing that could get me to seriously consider forking over the cash ) I don't know many gamers personally that VR from sony or ms is a must have item.

They said the same thing going into this year and the only thing they could muster up was Bloodborne, and even that isn't worth all the praise it gets.

Yet, people will still fall for it.

Am I the only one entranced by the gun strap physics? Every time he "aims down sights" with the AK, you see the strap rocking around. Technology!

They should focus on making the tombs interesting. Or whatever they are. Maybe tomb raider has dibs on the word tombs.

@Itzsfo0: I was talking more about their "Greatest Lineup in Xbox History" That had basically crap, and one game that I'd rather be playing on Playstation.

I guess 2016 has Mass Effect going for it (I don't care if it's also on playstation, that's like playing MGS on xbox)
but Xbox is hardly known for it's great exclusives (Halo and Gears are stupid)

I'm just sick of all these attempts to drum up hype where there's barely anything to hype about.

Does anyone listen to Sony promises anymore? These exclusives don't sound any better to me than their exclusives this year. As for VR...well, that's gonna bomb hard. I haven't seen one thing that looks promising. There's Ace Combat 7....but I'll hold my chips till I see how it plays.

@7tizz: excuse me sire but why compare move and PSVR? Two very different things you know, like aples and oranges. Have you ever thought about the posebillity that move was made for future VR in mind from the getgo when they first came out years ago to push the prizes down to what they cost today at $19 pricepoint compared to Sony's competitors pricing their motioncontrollers probably at $60-$100 price point when they wil come out this year. Think about that for a second my good Lad.

@7tizz: C'mon gentlemen ( assuming you're men if not & women ) comparing VR to the Move? Not the best of comparisons i'd have to say. VR will only tank if the PC market loses interest in VR, which won't happen. While i'm a little skeptical myself, i still feel VR is a few years a way, well to be to my liking which is Perfect. I tried out the Oculus at a Convention last year and while it was awesome, it needs a really well built PC to run it as of now anyway, ( i kid u not look into it ) u should have seen the computer they were using to show off the Oculus and the specs lets just say they were insane. Until they can fully optimize VR The Minimum Specs According to a good Source for the Oculus are

  • NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
  • Intel i5-4590 processor equivalent or greater
  • 8GB+ RAM
  • Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
  • 2 USB 3.0 ports
  • Windows 7 SP1 or newer

it won't be fully optimized for a couple years, i mean my PC is less than two months old, i just recently built it and invested in a pretty damn good Vid Card got a Asus Geforce GTX 960 for a good price. As far as my thoughts were on the Oculus VR headset it wasn't quite there yet, though close however they HAVE come a Loong way, and like i said it was awesome and entertaining if i had to put a percentage on it i'd say there 75 percent there. So in my eyes, if the console versions ( Xboxone has plans to release there own version in 2016) of the VR Headset can be anything even close to what i experienced with the Oculus, we'll definitely have a product that isn't going anywhere..

@digits52: You are wrong sire, VR will not tank if the PC market loses interest in VR, there are only 13 million high-end pc's out there that are powerful enough to use VR for PC-gaming, to put that in perspective, there are over 30 million ps4 consoles out there ready for easy to use plug &play psVR. That is a VR market for potentially 30 million GAMERS vs a VR market for potentially 13 million gamers and non-gamers. Have a good day to you sire.

@xgalacticax: No not really listening to their promises. My ps4 have only truly delivered on Bloodborne and it's DLC so far. Infamous games were also okay since I already have the console, would not buy the console for those games though.
But atleast these exclusives listed in this article interest me alot and could potentially make me take a break from PC to play a little ps4. The xbox on the other hand has delivered even worse imo, from launch until what we know will come next year, only have two titles that could maybe catch my eye and that most likely won't be available on PC, Scalebound and Recore.
Both consoles are mediocre imo and I get why pc is on the rise again.

@Keaze_: It was okay and I did play it twice aswell (good and evil). I didn't plat it, still missing the hard difficulty trophy, lost interest halfway through my hard playthrough. Did get all throphies on First light though. I think the ps3 infamous titles were way better.

They were good games still nothing I'd buy a ps4 for. Other than those two games, of course Bloodborne that is a masterpiece only held back by the hardware it's held hostage on and lastly for Batman AK that was unplayable on PC at the time, there is nothing out now that I can't get on pc or that I'm really interested in. Once in the bargain bin I might give Until Dawn a chance, have been hearing only good things about it and it'd be a nice title to play with my wife.
