PS5 Price And Release Date Confirmed

The PS5 launches later this year, which gives you a couple of months to save for this price tag.

During the PlayStation 5 reveal event and subsequent streams, Sony remained tight-lipped regarding the pricing or release date of Sony's next-gen system. But as part of the latest PS5 showcase, which aired today, that information was finally revealed. As announced near the very end of the presentation, the PS5 will cost $500 / €500 / $750 AUD for the Standard Edition and $400 / €400 / $600 AUD for the Digital Edition. It will release on November 12.

According to the PlayStation Blog, November 12 will be the release date across several markets: the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. November 19, the console will release across the rest of the world, including Europe, the Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa.

Now Playing: PS5 Launch Date, Price, & Games - Everything You Need To Know In Under 3 Minutes

The release details were the culmination of a presentation that included trailers and new game announcements including Final Fantasy 16 and a new God of War. We also got fresh looks at Spider-Man: Miles Morales (which is also coming to PS4), the remake of Demon's Souls, and more.

Pre-orders for the console opened up unexpectedly shortly after the presentation. For the most up-to-date information on where you can reserve a console, consult our PS5 pre-order guide.

Microsoft recently detailed the price for Xbox Series X of $500 and a November 10 release date. On that same day, Xbox Series S will launch for $300. Xbox preorders go live on September 22. Sony previously indicated it's more concerned with PS5's value, rather than the price alone, although the Series S price potentially put pressure on Sony.

For information on where you can buy a system, consult our PS5 preorder guide.

This is a very awkward position for Sony... they are offering an inferior console to the Xbox Series X for the same price, and then on top of that Microsoft have the other end of the market covered with the $300 Xbox Series S...

@merkkrai: True, but I guess they wanted more profit this time and they are relying on their market dominance, hoping that MS cannot come back.

@merkkrai: Meh. This generation has proven that optimization is always better than specs, so it doesn't really matter how powerful your hardware is if your devs aren't talented/funded enough to take advantage of it.

Besides, Ghost of Tsushima happened. By this point, all games look great. At this point we're talking ray tracing and none of the consoles can handle that, so who cares if the zits looks a little clearer on one console over the other?

@Barighm: Thought the next console's can handle Ray tracing..."Both of the upcoming next-generation consoles will employ ray tracing rendering support, something that’s only just started to become widely available in the high-end PC gaming world."

Funny graphics don't matter now, when Xbox has the more powerful console, those zits being clearer matter to Sony players when the PS4 was more powerful etc at launch, but now its graphics don't matter.

Now I will agree with you that developers is where its at falls largely on them and there capabilities...Ghost Of Tsushima was great looking, but that was about it...there have also been many great looking games on the Xbox side as well. What Sony needs is more multi-player games and variety, instead of the same old Hack and slash styles of games with the same repetitive style like FF.

I think you find yourself proven wrong there buddy. The XseX is considerably more powerful than ps5 and it’s going to show. You can bank on it.

@cdragon_88: The extra weight, shipping, manufacturing time and extra space of the box do! Why do you think TV manufacturers were so fast to ditch tube TV's, then ditch the heavier plasma and now prefer as thin as possible TV's? They can ship more at a time for the same price or maybe less!

@cdragon_88: Yes, but Sony is saving more money than just the optical drive. Digital only means they aren't losing any money to middlemen like Gamestop, so for the same $60 game price, Sony is getting another $10 ish. Compounded over however many games, and they can offer a bigger discount on the digital only version than just the price of the optical drive.

$500 is what I expected from Sony as they matched the Xbox Series X price.

@6t4gp:

Yes when I think about it now your completely correct. XseX is a lot more powerful than ps5 and sony should have been priced it accordingly. Sony should have priced the full fat ps5 at $400 and the digital edition at $350. That would have been way better.

But now everybody knows XseX is more powerful and it’s the same price. The games that were shown right now don’t warrant buying a ps5 over an XseX. Why would you? XseX is going to play everything better.

XseX is a monster. It’s going to be a brilliant system. It is a brilliant system.

@returnofthebrotha: they just bought Bethesda and their parent company for $7.5 billion. You still think this is their last system?

They will have must powerful console and huge game library for $35 a month. Not a bad deal at all.

@6t4gp: The differences are negligible. As someone said above, optimization always matters more and the games for both boxes look great already, so it really isn't like comparing an SX to a PS3 for the same $500.

@promeym: people noticed the .5 tflop difference between the PS4 and Xbox one. You can see the difference between the PS4 Pro and the X1X.

But, for some reason you think people won't notice the 1.84 (in boost) and 3+tflop ( in regular) difference between the PS5 and the Xbox Series X?

All games are optimized for what system they are on. Are you say optimizing will stop at the PS5 performance level? If so the PS5 will hold back next generation.

Damn shame that those .5 tflops that people noticed doomed Sony this last generation, huh?

If hardware mattered like you seem to think it does, the Switch would be in the same landfill along with the ET cartridges for the Atari 2600.

@promeym: No, Sony had the .5 tflop power advantage and a lower price. I think you are confused. Those things really helped Sony take an early lead. After that it was just a snowball effect. For me I didn't care for the exclusives on PS1,2, and 3 anymore so, I didn't get a PS4.

Nintendo people are Nintendo people. The hardware does not matter as much there.

@6t4gp: .5 tflop had nothing to do with Sony taking the lead early. Oh how people forget all the crap that led up to the launch and the disgruntled people over the 54% failure rate of the 360. No one was talking about .5 tflops.

@rolento25: I guess you don't remember the GT5 grass comparison. Maybe you weren't around at the last system launch. PS4 was cheaper and more powerful. That's a fact. It was always bought up how games ran better on PS4 and it was true. But, one the X1X came out performance was no longer important it was all about games.

I wanted to talk to my TV and have it turn on, off, change the channel, etc.. I was fine paying an extra $100 for that. But, it also hurt game performance. Xbox one was ahead of it's time. Now people talk to nest, google, Alexa, etc..

Now more than ever games are going to be the deciding factor between Sony and Microsoft.

This really is going to be a console battle generation.

The one good thing Sony has going for them is games. This presentation showed gamers that they need to be on PS5 this coming gen.

This Fall is going to be a videogaming bloodbath.

@videogameninja:

Are you kidding me? That show was worse than there last show. Half of those ps plus games are already on Xbox Gamepass LMAO.

Spidey was about it. Everything else was meh. After seeing Demon Souls I thought nope looks like a ps4 game.

That show did nothing to convince me to buy a ps5 at launch.

XseX is way more powerful and is the same price. Like what were sony thinking pricing the full fat ps5 the same as XseX when it’s considerably less powerful. They should have priced it at $450 if they were planning on selling the digital version at $400.

Even better they should have gone $350 and $400. That would have been killer.

XseX is a much better piece of hardware. There’s no denying it. Everything Xbox has done the last few years is going to pay off. I think there going to have a fantastic launch period. I’m certainly on board.

XseX day one. Can’t wait now.

@Mkeegs79: You joke, but we moderators carefully monitor each and every article for people claiming "First comment." Those that do so get mailed a special trophy. Five of those trophies each year contain a secret compartment with a golden ticket inside, granting the lucky user a trip inside the gamespot citadel. No, not the office building. That's a front. And maybe it'll be that guy, and not you.
