PSN Is Down for Many, Causing Issues Across PS4 and All Platforms [UPDATE]

All platforms and all areas of PSN are affected.

Update: The PSN status page is now showing all services as up and running. We'll report back if that changes.

Original Story: In what's hopefully not a preview of issues to come during the holidays, the PlayStation Network is currently experiencing issues across all platforms.

More specifically, users on all systems--including PS4, PS3, and Vita, as well as those on web services--can't sign into PSN, and games and apps won't launch. This has already been acknowledged by the PSN support Twitter account.

The status page shows issues for all areas of PSN, including account management, gaming and social, PlayStation Now, PlayStation Vue, and the PlayStation Store. These problems emerged this afternoon, a few hours after PSN's Black Friday sale went live.

We'll report back as we receive more information.

@burnedandfrozen: When we played to actually entertain ourselves. Before we thought about things like, who can I play against online or I wanna stream my game play footage online so my gaming skills can be viewed by many strangers. That way I won't feel alone.

Look at all the PSN apologists coming to the rescue of Sony...sad... It was only a few minutes though! When there is zero confidence in their network, being down 1 minute or 1 day means very little to the consumer.

PSN better be ready for xmas...they go down again after what happened last year, and if xbox doesn't, they have no one to blame but themselves.

Oh dear not again.

It's just not good enough. Sony really need to improve psn. I don't understand why they can't implement some feature that circumvents this. When it comes to scheduled maintenance you should be able to keep playing as there doing the maintenance instead of having no access. It's so lame. In the entire 12 almost 13 years I've been on XBL I've never not once experienced an outage which I find quite amazing. 

Is it not newsworthy? I dunno. Here in Spain, psn Store is often slowish or down (even if it's just for a few minutes), or it just wont let you buy. Which almost NEVER happens with Steam. Better not talk about downloading speed: Psn uses like 50% or less of my broadband. Sony could definitely invest more.

@gamersince78: angry for a few minutes that was off line for some. Typical from this generation. I own all "next" gen consoles, psn is not an issue, shit i even subscribe to psvue. I had more issues with satellite TV. But as I sad, The overreaction of the Internet is priceless

@robbiedont: of this generation lol? Robbie, good chance I'm older than you, but if you are ok with constant substandard service, by all means, stick with it. I own all consoles, and a PC, and PSN is by far the worst...almost as bad as 80's satellites....

Aside from just being online/offline, how about their crap-tiffic download speeds lol, I hear the 90's calling, when PSN was considered fast. Or how we have to fight to get mod support, or cross platform gaming...the list goes on and on and on.

I'm not sure who you are trying to convince, but acting like PSN is fine, is as laughable as your comment.

@robbiedont: no one is saying it is still offline, most people can read, and saw the update at the start of the story. Apparently you can't read, as you pretty much disregarded all the issues that plague PSN lol.

Like i said. If this was the 2nd or 3rd time this happened, no one would care, but this happens pretty frequently on PS N. Also, like I said, this is just outages, without even commenting on PSN speeds et al....but hey, don't let facts get in the way of your gut feelings and opinions.

Who knew I just got done playing UNcharted 4 MP been playing all evening since about 2pm central and didnt get disconnected or anything nor did any of my chat party which consist of alot of former military buddies all around the states.

@joeskeletor: If the downtime was caused by a DDoS attack, people who are already on the network do not get dropped. When a server gets dos'd it usually just blocks all new incoming connections, but continues to accept traffic from users already connected. It's basically a wall that protects everyone who is already on the server.

Back when the xmas attacks started a few years ago, I was online with a few of my buddies when we started to hear from others to leave our ps4's on so we could still play games the next day, I was still online in party chat with a buddy of mine until 2 or 3am cst that night, about 6 hours after the attacks started.

The only time PSN goes down is when I unplug the router and modem. That might explain why everyone else is having problems but what do I know....
