PSN Is Down for Many, Causing Issues Across PS4 and All Platforms [UPDATE]

All platforms and all areas of PSN are affected.

Update: The PSN status page is now showing all services as up and running. We'll report back if that changes.

Original Story: In what's hopefully not a preview of issues to come during the holidays, the PlayStation Network is currently experiencing issues across all platforms.

More specifically, users on all systems--including PS4, PS3, and Vita, as well as those on web services--can't sign into PSN, and games and apps won't launch. This has already been acknowledged by the PSN support Twitter account.

The status page shows issues for all areas of PSN, including account management, gaming and social, PlayStation Now, PlayStation Vue, and the PlayStation Store. These problems emerged this afternoon, a few hours after PSN's Black Friday sale went live.

We'll report back as we receive more information.

I had an Xbox 360 for almost 9 years and yes, Xbox LIVE was occasionally down, but NEVER to this extent. Ever since I bought my PS4, I've been extremely disappointed with the stability of its online service. When it's working, it works just fine, but it seems to always be down for maintenance of some sort or just some other random connection issue.

@jayskoon93: 360, yes, but XBL during the One era has been down quite a bit for various issues as well. People are just still miffed about the Christmas incident. Remove that blemish from Sony's record, and you will see the two have been roughly the same reliability wise.

XBL is better for other reasons.

@7tizz: There was an entire week earlier this year where XBL was so badly hacked (or whatever it was) I couldn't download a thing. Xbox asked me to repurchase many of my games. And it was not just me. It was big news. Really nasty stuff. Made headlines all over the place.

But of course you forget that. So, bang, I got you. Proven shill. Game Over. I can now look at all of your future posts with a smile on my face because we will all know...it's the paid leader of the XBDF. Well, no, everyone already knew that, so it's hardly a victory.

@7tizz: If you're old enough to mess around router configurations or even a simple reset you're old enough to check more than one device to troubleshoot the problem accordingly.

@RicanV: Better yet, find something else to do for a few hours. If you're really that old, you should know these little disturbances pass in less than a day or so. Long outages are very rare.

@7tizz: there could be somthing to do with the console but it worked before it couldnt connect and its back working and I didnt do anything to the console so it must of been live and my network was working aswell I was able to connect to psn

Seems like the Playstation Network goes down quite a bit. I was really hoping the pay-for-online model that plagues console gaming would have helped pay for a more secure infrastructure, not that you can prevent every DDOS attack, assuming that's what's going on here.

@uncha1n3d: Both PSN and XBL go down quite a bit, XBL moreso in the last year or so. There's really no major difference. They're both equally targeted.
