Razer honoring unauthorized 90% off coupon code

Peripheral maker CEO says company will not cancel orders placed using the code, even though company stands to lose "insane amount" of money.

Computer peripheral maker Razer will honor an unauthorized coupon code it discovered this week that granted United Kingdom shoppers 90 percent off their orders. Writing on Facebook (via Polygon), Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan explained that Razer could legally cancel orders placed using the code, but won't because of its longstanding consumer-first policy.

"While we have the option of cancelling the orders legally, we’ve always had a customer-comes-first policy at Razer and in respect of this incident, we have decided to honor the orders that were placed using the unauthorized code by Razer fans buying single products for their own use," Tan wrote.

Honoring the 90 percent off code will result in Razer seeing an "insane amount of losses" due to products being sold significantly below costs, Tan said. Despite this, he explained that Razer wants to "do right by the community" and so will honor the codes.

"Our focus is on doing the right thing for our fans, the gamers and the community, not for resellers or users to profit from this," Tan said. "That’s not gaming, that’s not our deal."

Tan explained that it will take weeks--and months in some cases--to processes and ship all orders. This is due to the high volume of orders and the fact that many of the items users purchased were backordered to begin with.

"We appreciate everyone’s patience, and we thank all of our customers for their support. Game on," he wrote.

@MW2ismygame This is not a kind move, it's a marketing strategy. It's used to lure in idiots like you to go buy their products because they are a "kind company," so therefore the right thing to do is support them by buying their products. Many companies do this.

i own a Max Keyboard Durandal G1NL with Brown Cherry MX Key Switches, Green LEDs...

its the best purchase ive ever made...

it might not have tons of Marcos but its very well built (all keys on the keyboard are mechanical), strong, & the best purchase for a Mechanical Keyboard, with LEDs, unless, you go with the Ducky, or Deck...it will last

if your looking for a keyboard that is sturdy & wont give you any trouble & your able to pick which Key Switches you want for your Mechanical, where the LEDs are bright & the customer service is excellent, i suggest Max Keyboard...

if you dont know much about Mechanical Keyboards, Key Switches do matter...

Razer only puts out Brown switches in their Black Widow Stealth Edition...

i cant say enough good things about Max Keyboards...

i bought a Mechanical Keyboard from them & got it on a promo & received their $59 mouse (that is the comparable to Logitechs M9X), a mouse pad, extra key caps, a key puller, all for free, plus a discount on top of that...

they also do any color of LED that you want displayed on your keyboard, its spendy but if your looking to customize, you can..

not a huge fan of Razer...

i bought the Naga 2012 Edition Mouse, 6 of the lefthand side buttons didnt work, the moment i started using the mouse, right out of the box...the only thing i like about Razer, is that they use the color green, but i generally dont like all of the Glossy plastic that they used when they first came out with products, or the over the top graphics, that remind me of when people thought Blue flames were cool in the 90s...

Not too happy with the Razer mouse I got a few years ago. It looks and feels nice but the horizontal axis sometimes locks randomly. It appears to be a driver issue since rebooting resolves the issue. Updating firmware has not corrected the problem.


Next time I'm definitely going with a Logitech.

Well they are innovative. I'll give them that.

My Naga Epic is a cool mouse, but I had to send it in 9 months after buying it because the left click was acting like I was repeatedly clicking it. (which made it almost impossible and incredibly frustrating to do anything).

That and the mouse has a charge life of about 8-10 hours. Seriously, I have to have two mice so I don't run out of juice throughout the day. It's a major, major complaint with the Naga Epic. What's weird is they have a proprietary square ~1200-1500 mah battery. I don't know why they just didn't allow for two normal double AA lithium ion batteries. You can get two 2300 mah batteries and this would not be an issue. I see no reason why this wasn't the case, or why they couldn't of put two of their batteries in there if need be. These batteries are small. Think like the size of a nickle, but square, and maybe like two-three nickles thick. So I can understand WHY it is only 1200-1500 mah. But still, they needed more, especially when it has such gratuitous lights on it.

Now I guess they have an always online DRM for their mouse. Seriously. Now, I get it that with 'Synapse' it is supposed to be a program that allows for you to take your mouse to various locations and keep your settings, but seriously? Always online connectivity require for a mouse? I've heard of a ton of problems, so I haven't updated to this 'requirement'.

So yeah there's reason for some to hate on them. They make some funny decisions, but kudos for them to do this.

Honestly, that's a stupid move. It's not going to make them look especially good, but they'll, in their words, lose a ton of money. It's expected that companies reverse price mistakes unless they're minor. No one would complain much if they didn't honor the glitch.

Nice kind gesture and a decent promotion for the company to boot. I own a few razor products and can't say they ever break on me. Then again, I don't really game that hard that I have to replace a mouse every month or so =P I do have friends who go through headsets like drinking water.

How many of those UK gamers purchased a Razer Edge Gaming Tablet with that coupon code? At 90% discount, it would definitely be worth the price. Of course you would still have to pay full price for those expensive accessories, which would suck.

Could this all be a publicity stunt like they did with previously? Have the code be blocked from their systems now? Most of Razer products are crap anyways. They work great for 6-12 months and then immediately things start to malfunction with them. We've heard stories from 100's of gamers/consumers who have used their products in the past.

Oh dear razer has to sell its products at the price they pay for them, razer products are cheap and nasty they are designed to break this is just a PR stunt in the background they will be cancelling most of the orders.

I had three razer deathadders all started doing a double left click after roughly 7 months after the third mouse there comes a point where you learn that you're not paying for a "decent product" but instead paying for a fancy logo that glows.

I'm pretty sure if the "insane loss" was really "insane" they would be cancelling orders. Unless there weren't that many to begin with. It does seem like a PR stunt. I am currently looking at a new mouse, and the Razer line is in the running, although I think the Logitech g700 will be the ultimate winner for my use.

@McGregor Don't buy Razer. Or at least look at the comments on this section and you will that they never last more than a few months. Spent alot on the Naga Epic and it has only lasted me 4-5 months.
