Refunds available for Battlefield 4 Premium after server woes

Unhappy Xbox One owners report they are able to receive refunds from Microsoft.

Multiple Xbox One owners are reporting on the Battlefield forums that after speaking with Microsoft Support, they were able to receive refunds for their $50 Battlefield 4 Premium subscriptions. It is not clear, however, if the refunds are being offered in a limited capacity or to anyone who asks for one.

The reasons for wanting a refund are obvious. Battlefield 4's launch has been marred by server woes, with some Xbox One owners reporting difficulty downloading the recent China Rising expansion.

As you would expect, it appears that getting a refund for Battlefield 4 means you'll have to relinquish the perks associated with the Battlefield 4 Premium subscription--including access to map packs, priority server position, and double XP events.

However, one user says on Twitter he was able to maintain all the Battlefield 4 Premium perks even after receiving a full refund. We've reached out to Electronic Arts for the official company position on the matter and will update the story if we hear back.

It is unclear if Sony is also offering Battlefield 4 Premium refunds for the PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 version of the game. The PS4 version has been hit especially hard by server woes, though DICE just today released a new update that promises to boost general stability.

You should be able to claim a refund for Premium as it is basically being mis sold on the promise of features which aren't available such as Air Superiority and server queues (on Xbox 360 at least). This basically means the product is not fit for purpose and under UK, and I would imagine US law I would imagine the customer is entitled to a no quibble refund.

As you purchased the DLC through the Xbox dashboard, that makes Microsoft the retailer, who (under the same consumer law) are responsible for the refund and should be your first port of call. Try not to get fobbed off by the Microsoft's customer services / advocacy department, as I feel anyone who got conned into buying premium has a valid case

I don't get it. Why would MS issue a refund for a game they didn't make?

<< LINK REMOVED >> because to get Premium (DLC), you have to buy it on the console or through their website, which makes them the retailer.

Funny you don't hear of Nintendo having to refund people's money for a bad game.

Maybe this will get DICE/EA to realise that creating half-assed broken games does not go over well with gamers. I have been a fan of BF since the first one but I did not like BF3 and I had a lot of problems with it. I tried BF4 and it was bad for me as well. I will not hold my breath for BF4 but maybe these issues will generate enough attention so DICE/EA will really focus on making the series right again. Whether that is fixing this game or making the next one better. They are now seeing why rushing a project is a bad idea.

I'm so glad I went with the Wii U and the 3DS XL this generation, I don't have to put up with broken, buggy, glitchy games.

I feel sorry for the gamers who have spent £39.99+/$60+ on a game which was clearly never fit for purpose and shouldn't have been launched.

This article is talking "specifically" about Microsoft's servers, not the game. The issue is with the servers in this case and not the game, the servers are Microsoft's, not Dice's.

<< LINK REMOVED >> actually the article is "specifically" talking about refunds on Battlefield 4 Premium. The only time servers are "specifically" mentioned is when discussing the PS4 version of the game.

EA games use their own servers, not XBL or PSN. You obviously have no clue about the actual problems with this game.

would be nice to see a map of the geographic location of the people having problems. Just to see if a pattern exists.

I really dont get it.

Some say there is no way to play this game because of bugs , crashes , glitches.

But i've never experienced anything. Only in beta crashed 2-3 times and thats it.

Im playing since the release date.

All of my friends are the same , no problem. Also on X360 and Ps3 , no problem.

"exaggerate" at its max i'll say.

<< LINK REMOVED >> same here mate, I have had a few crashes but I've played over sixty hours online and am enjoying the game quite a lot.

Graphics on the PS3 could be a little better but the constant moaning on this site is well overboard.

I'm on western Europe servers so maybe its more US problems.

@arqe exaggurated my ass, go look on the forums, im constantly on them. there are thousands of people with issues (thats putting it mildly) this includes myself, and my friends as well. the systems affected that i personally know of is on the 360, xb1, and ps4. because you dont have issues, doesnt mean thousands dont. ea wouldnt be getting investigated over this if this wasnt a wide spread issue. investors lost money over all this. if this wasnt an issue then why did ea stop dice from making more content? to fix their game., why? BECAUSE ITS BROKEN!!! you really think ea wants content to stop being made? extra content=money. wake up

<< LINK REMOVED >> I find it really annoying when people go "Well, it didn't happen to me or my friends, and the entire world revolves around us, nevermind the fact that we're probly 5-10 against hundreds of thousands, you're clearly exaggerating."

There's CLEARLY a problem here, man, just because you're an outlier doesn't mean you get to say that everyone else is wrong.

then you're a lucky man :)

I've given up and uninstalled it from my PC, after getting disconnected from 8 games in a row in the space of 15 minutes enough was enough.

This is probably the 50th odd time I've said it but me and EA are never ever ever, getting back together.......honestly...

On the XBone I have a lot of trouble joining servers, even though it clearly states many spaces available you get a merry-go-round of "no commander slots free" then "cant connect to server" and so on. When it starts to join about 50% of the time it takes you back to the server list suddenly but sometime crashes the game completely. Also the server filters don't work at. I don't ofter get crashed out once I'm in a game, its only happened 5 or 6 times, getting in is the issue for me. To be honest I remember BF2 and the shambles that was on release, DICE are just not very good at all at testing and bug-fixing their products.

Mine crashes constantly and most the time i cant even get into the games i wanna play... Then when i do get in the gameplay most of the time is glitchy and just a mess. its a shame this could of been a great game if they would of made it right and released it about a year later.

I had Soooooo many problems with BF4 and premium (for ps4). Talked to EA help 3 times. They gave me a 15% off code for origin. That is better than giving up premium. I will probably never use the code. but... it was a great gesture. I mean it sucked I couldnt get China Rising for 4 after I was supposed to. Not THAT big of a deal, just anooying you promise something and dont deliver. So I think 15% off code is a pretty good gesture. Got China rising, all guns and UAVs unlocked in 2 days, been bored with it for while now and back to playing "old" levels.

<< LINK REMOVED >> while I'm not having these issues, reading about them actually makes me worried when I start up my game. To encounter crashing on that scale in a game like this would almost ruin the game for me.

As for my thoughts, I'm more middle of the road. I accept that there are problems, but I won't immediately grab a torch and pitchfork and call out for murder. While there are problems, there are also people overreacting on the situation as well. And I commend DICE for putting all their efforts into fixing the problems that people are having

Then articulate it that way. Obviously enough people are having issues with the game that it matters, and it's a huge problem. The game is a mess, and it should not have even been released in it's current state.

They admitted they rushed it to get more money, than hold it back and make sure there weren't problems.

The fall back with far too many people these days is "I'm not affected, I don't care, I'm not affected, so it doesn't exist, I'm not affected, so stop whining." If that's not your position, fair enough.

And if you are not an American, then my mistake, but believe me, those mantras above are FAR too prevalent in this country.

We'd rather live in a world of make believe than a world of reality.

Battlefield 4 has to be one of the worst game launch ever. It is bad enough to permanently hurt the franchise. Now it's sure they will never take over COD.

Lol I'm with you. I've had some problems but even as aggravating as it has been I know they'll get it worked out. Maybe I'm just more forgiving than others because I remember countless years of blowing into cartridges over multiple systems from the Atari 2600 on up :-) Let's kill something! Worst launch in Battlefield history? Certainly. But the worst game launch in history? Definitely not. The contenders for that title include games like Simcity 5 and Diablo 3. You can at least PLAY BF4 at launch, it just crashes randomly.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Diablo was up and running less than a week after launch. Simcity was mostly operable about two weeks later. We're six weeks out from the launch of BF4 and there are still major issues for a vast majority of players with no clear or definitive timetable for their repair. I'd say that definitely put BF4 in the running for worst launch.

Worse than that though, EA tried to release DLC into an already sketchy experience and for many, that just made it even worse.

I never had a problem with Simcity or Diablo. Had to wait a while before Diablo 3's servers stopped getting hammered, but that's different from Battlefield, which has been a total disaster from day one up until now, almost two months. And their excuse for taking their time fixing it is that "Battlefield is a yearlong experience." Still have yet to join an Air Superiority match. Game lists only two servers and both timeout when you try to enter them.

I haven't had too many issues on PC (outside of the first week game crashes) but the updated AMD drivers fixed that. I do feel sorry for the console guys though, the PS4 has been waiting forever and I'm sure the XBO is just as bad.
