Report: Wii Speak Channel limited to new purchases

Can anybody say this is a surprise? Way to hassle your customers, Nintendo!

I thought companies were supposed to be green nowadays? Buying used is basically the same as recycling. We consume too many products already, and this kind of "buy new or not at all" attitude only reinforces this negative flow. Now, when someone buys this headset (and only this headset, no others), no one else can use it. Kinda like selling you an mp3 player, but only you can use it from now on. What a horrible, foreboding action.

Dont know if imma buy this at all let alone new or used. I'll keep my eye on it but i really don't think imma get this.

This isn't going to affect me. I don't buy used games or equipment. Sucks for anyone else who was planning to buy it used though.

EPIC did the same thing with Gears of War 2 and the flashback map pack. It's to prevent places like Gamestop from making profit on used items. Frankly, I'm okay with it because I hardly buy things used anymore.

I just think this is idiotic on N's part.

This reminds me of something someone told me about a year, or 2 ago: That football ticket dealers had some sort of system(implemented for the superbowl) to prevent tickets being sold from just anybody for less than the "officially authorized" ticket dealers' prices. I'm not into football, so I don't know. It just reminded me of it, that's all. This is stupid, especially w/ our economy being what it is now. Nintendo had a good beginning to this year, but their fizzling out at this year's end, when they don't have to. Wii music? Then we're not getting the DSI yet, even though some here want it, just because the Lite is still selling so well, here in the US? Now you have to mandatory buy new?! Nintendo's seeing numbers, & dollor signs, not people. I love N, don't get me wrong. But they need to continue to be what they are: a company in the business of making games, not financial brokers. Sheesh!

Too little, too late. Ninty lost me as a customer earlier this year, and this jsut won't cut it to brign me back, and really now, the channel shoudl be free and the secodn hand problem is solved, but because they INTENTIONALLY dont want second hand byers, they make the program code onyl download... I think teh developer community needs to accept second hand purcahses as part of their business forcasts, as it happens everywhere.

Finally, I can talk to my friends without them being in the same room! Oh wait, they already invented something to solve that problem; it's called a phone.

yay online chat.. 5 years later. i don't understand why this was so hard to do. the original xbox had online chat and that came out when.. 2002 ? How could nintendo be this far behind.

Guess Nintendo is doing this to combat the used game market. Wont be surprise if I see other companies like Sony and Microsoft following suit.

well why would I want to talk with 3 of my friends anyway, I can use the phone or if I don't want to spend money I can use skype or msn

What the heck? Even though I have no plans of buying one, new OR used, it's still a stupid idea. And what is the point? What problems are they trying to solve by doing this?

Not a problem for me. I dislike buying used things. But it's unfortunate for those who do buy them used.

I am sure this policy will change if the device is popular. They know people will be able to hack their own mic to do this and just want to profit off it. Nintendo has always treated their customers very well (anyone that had to RMA a device should know), so I am sure they will do good to their customers after they are sure it does not take the path of the VirtualBoy.

if i get this i probably will try to find it used. i mean seriously, why spend the extra money just to get a useless channel where u can talk to up to 3 of your friends?? if i ever needed to talk to someone i certainly have other ways than over my wii....
